The fact that so many researchers died there because they were overwhelmed by the sheer number of ancient primal and visceral pokemon still gives me chills. The final kick in the heart being what you learn at the end of the Area Zero gauntlet. It gave me Lusamine telling Lily that she hated her vibes.....Just absolute trauma inducing if you look too deep into the lore of it all. Pokemon has been becoming so good at story telling in their stories over the years and it's starting to show through in how adult they're willing to be.
I'm so glad I didn't spoil myself with the internet before reaching this area and especially the final boss. I was playing violet and had no idea paradox pokemon existed, so the first encounter with iron bundle was straight-up unsettling. Between the wacky topography, the unnatural pokemon, and especially the music, area zero was incredibly well done.
I love Area Zero so much and this remix 110% does it justice! And not only did it completely do the original justice, but it's also more than deserving of being your last song of the year! Edit: Oh my god the Waterfall motif works perfectly with this song
honestly this theme reminds me a lot of corridors of time from chrono trigger, i wouldn’t be surprised if hot land also took inspiration from that song 😊
because it has an arpeggio? is that your thesis here? these two songs have arpeggios in them and some drawn out melodies (crazy how music written by the same person occasionally has stylistic similarities) so one is using the other as a foundation? do you understand how ridiculous that sounds when you lay it out? people talk about toby fox's music in this bizarre way where they correctly recognise stylistic similarities (instrument choices like his frequent usage of ultimate guitar kit 2.sf2, melodic trends, structural choices like often basing songs around an arpeggio and then building up harmony on top) but rather than try to reason those choices, they just play this bizarre game where they pretend he's locked himself into referencing himself over and over, because once when talking about the process of writing his >100 song OST he mentioned that he finds it easier to reuse elements when possible. i can 100% promise you in the exact same way sada and turo's battle theme isn't based on oppa toby style, noelle from deltarune's theme isn't based off of darling kanaya and the battle tower theme from sword and shield isn't based off of the baby is you, this song is not using hotland as a base. the stylistic similarities are because the songs are made by the same guy, and artists tend to develop a personal style over time. i also promise you that writing an arpeggio is not hard enough that his quote about reusing musical elements would apply here. it's just a way of reinforcing chords monophonically.

Truly the best of this game is the ending. Area Zero itself is such a mysterious place with phenomenal music that really sets the tone of exploring a forbidden area. The Pokémon there add to that sense of mystery, and most importantly (spoilers) The story that ends the campaign with the Time Machine is amazing and the character dialogue and banter in this section is something the main game could have benefited from
