It's the exact same design with Japanese brand KTC. I don't know who "stole" the design, but I'm willing to bet it's not the Japanese. Haha
Few days ago, out of curiosity I bought them both, KTC and the Chinese one (not a SATA brand though) and the ratchet mechanism of the KTC is smoother, not by a lot, but there's definitely a difference.
The shaft has a hidden bit if you pull it all out.
Seems ok. I think the rattling of the extra bits would drive me a little nuts.

Is it for those screws that are hard to open with normal screwdrivers and need more twisting like those on wooden items or some Electrical items having plastic cases whose screws are hard till the last turn?
SATA makes pretty good tools and at reasonable prices .... they are owned by Apex Tools which also owns Gearwrench and Crescent among others !!!
