  • In this video, I am building a Hydroponic system using pvc pipe. This system will allow me to grow fresh greens and herbs year round. With the cost of food going up, and even the availability of certain foods, this system will ensure my family and I will be able to have access to fresh greens at an affordable cost.
I also will build a shelving unit for the system using 2x4’s. I have seen some people use PVC pipe for the shelf, but at this time in my area, 2x4’s are more affordable and I believe they will be stronger as well.
Things I used in this video
    www.amazon.com...
    - 9 8 foot 2x4’s
    - Box of wood screws
    - 2 sections of 10 foot long pvc piping
    - 8 4 inch pvc end caps
    - ¾ pvc pipe
    - 102 L / 27 gallon tote for the reservoir
    - 7 x 1 inch grommets: amzn.to/3BOPbtv
    - 3-4 Barrina 4 ft 42 watt led grow lights: amzn.to/3v0X5fh
(the 4 ft lights can sometimes be out of stock, you could try the 6 pack of 2ft lights)
    - ½ inch pump hose: amzn.to/3FERaBC
(sometimes it is hard to find a small roll of tubing online. Your local hardware or hydroponic store may be able to cut you a smaller piece for cheaper)
    - Eco 396 water pump: amzn.to/3j4fOE3
(this is the pump I used, add a ball valve to limit the flow or find a pump with a lower output)
    - ½ ball valve: amzn.to/3HMtJZO
    - 2 inch net cups: amzn.to/3FJqOP7
    - 2 inch clone collars: amzn.to/3G4oOSE
    - Hole saw kit: amzn.to/3PCKI2w
    - Deburring tool: amzn.to/3WpqQC8
    - Light Timer: amzn.to/3PEquWg
    - Rockwool cubes 1.5 inch: amzn.to/3HOOHY8
    - PH and PPM digital meter: amzn.to/3V6YJqp
    - Ph control kit: amzn.to/3v7UobO
    - General hydroponics growing nutrients: amzn.to/3WwZjPi
    - Air Pump: amzn.to/3BSJj2q

I've watched your video about 20 times now, lol. I finally got mine all set up pretty much exactly like yours, so thank you sir! I was dumb and tried to do summer squash, tomatoes and cherry tomatoes which immediately overcrowded everything and I had to scrap my first run. That General Hydroponics stuff is no joke, I was actually getting worried about how fast everything was growing, I even had the limbs of plants breaking they were growing so fast. I think I'll try your bucket idea for the big bushy plants. Thank you so much for doing this video, I would love to see an update video on how your harvests are coming along.

nice set up i have a very similar setup and had been dealing with plants in the cups falling over when they get bigger so i made a solution for the 2in cups on 4in pvc and will design others soon... but if you have access to a 3d printer i can send you the stl to print and test then i can say for sure its either usefull or not. then ill upload all designs to thingaverse for public use

I haven't had too much issue with plants falling over yet. I am just starting a new grow again though so maybe your design will be useful. Unfortunately I do not have a 3d printer but I'm sure I could find one to use if needed. What's the file on thingaverse called?

Pushing the 3/4 pvc through the grommets is hard. Did you have the pointed side out? I saw you had dish soap in the video, did you use it as a lubricant?

I looked at a few other builds for inspiration then made up a plan for my own. No online blueprint. The photos I show in the video for the shelf and pvc system flow I made using a program called Inkscape.

Could you do a video remaking this with food safe materials? I'd like to see what you could replace the pvc with

    • @HermitsHome
      @HermitsHome  Год назад +4

Look for uPVC piping. The uPVC Is food safe. In most cases if you buy pvc piping that is for household use it is uPVC.
If you are concerned about the cement to glue it together there is a gorilla glue product for pvc labeled food safe.
I am always experimenting and looking for different ways to build stuff so maybe I will make another video in the future with different materials.
