Colon cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer and cancer death in the world. It is also one of the most preventable types of cancer, as it often takes about ten years for a small polyp to grow and develop into a cancerous one. So who’s at risk? And how can people be screened? Amit H. Sachdev and Frank G. Gress share some of the best ways to prevent colon cancer.

The saddest thing I've ever heard: "IF you have access to healthcare..."
I know. It's why so many people want to institute policies that give everyone in the U.S. healthcare...
Shouldnt even be an option to not have access to healthcare
Yep, a big IF...
@@PattyCosplayer So you think you're born on this earth to be gifted healthcare? How are we coming from a viewpoint where everything is slowly becoming a right and entitlement rather than something you earned? And you're fine with that?
Is 'free' healthcare good or desirable? Surely for many that is true. But is it a RIGHT?
Even clean water is not something you have a right to. Its dependent on hundreds of thousands of people providing that service at a low cost.
Dude Trust Me the word shouldn’t be “gifted” we are talking about “access” to healthcare

My grandaunt was diagnosed with colon cancer and currently at stage 4. Right now she cant even walk, or even talk.
The doctors said she only had 2 months left to live :( So we’re expecting her death. It’s so sad because she was such a sweet person! Always cooking for us and giving us away money even though we lived in different states.
Before she lost her communication abilities, she said that it hurts soo much 😭 So please do a medical check up every half a year guys! I don’t want this to happen to any of you
Sorry to hear that, my firend. I hope you and your grandaunt can go through this with as little pain as possible.
I'm sorry for you. But there is hope. My grandfather was diagnosed with colon cancer and the doctor said he had 2 months to live. Well, that was three years ago and he is still alive and in good condition :)

"If you have access to healthcare..."
A phrase that we should not have to include in any conversation.
I was diagnosed with colon cancer at 15 years old. I'm 19 now and haven't had disease in my colon for over 3 years, but still have small tumors in my lungs. It is extremely rare for adolescents to have colon cancer, and sometimes there aren't really any symptoms early on. I didnt have any cancer risk factors and I have always been super healthy, so doctors haven't been able to pinpoint why I developed cancer. My best advice is to always be aware of even the smallest changes in your body and tell your doctor. And colonoscopies really aren't as bad as they sound :)
Margaret Herrin I hope that everything comes out clear in the future for you. Cancer is a hard thing to deal with and not an easy process of treatment. All the best wishes for you.
Margaret Herrin Hope you for the best of luck!
Margaret I wish you all the very best in your future. xxxx
What are your symptoms?
Hey, are you doing ok now?
Had a malignent polyp removed 10 years ago while having routine colonscopy .
Wouldn't have seen 60 had I not bothered according to the specialist .
Turning 66 this year so would suggest anyone over 50 to go and make appointment .
Having had a similar experience to you, and being very grateful for the outcome, I completely agree.
Eating fiber-rich foods also helps, most especially when you're still young. Also avoid eating processed meat products (both frozen and canned types).

Honestly, the prep for a colonoscopy is worse than the procedure. Anyone who has ever had to drink a gallon of Golightly knows what I’m saying. 🤢
Idaho Tricia Yup, been there
I've had mine when I was 15 yo, and where I live you then get to have full anasthesia. So in my case it was the worst part. Sorry to hear about your terrible experience. It wasn't meant that way. (You also scared me a bit for further examinations that I'll no doubt have to undergo)
I was anaesthetised during both of the procedures I've had so the prep was the worst part for me but I can't speak for others who weren't knocked out during the procedure.
I must say, though, that once the prep had done its thing, I felt surprisingly good although a bit wrung out.
it was awful! but for me getting rid of all the air afterwards was pretty horrible too

Not eating animal products is also strongly linked to decreased risk.

Can someone suggest a video. I’d love to see one on the difference if Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s. I have UC so I already know the differences. But I think others might like to know.
Screening is _not_ the best way to prevent colon cancer!
Lifestyle changes are.
WRONG!! If you have the genetic predisposition to colonic ca - lifestyle changes WILL NOT alter that in the slightest...!!

Imagine if everybody smoked.
Some would get lung cancer, others would not.
It would be silly to focus on the genetics of lung cancer.
Now the western diet is like smoking for your bowels.
@@Vamavid what about indian diet? I never eat raw vegetables and never eat out. (I have crohns tho).
@@Chan-og3yk Unfortunately, some non-smokers get lung cancer.
Try to eliminate a whole bunch of foods from your diet, and then over several weeks, add them back one by one to try to find the culprit.

I am 16 and have ulcerative colitis. How often should i be checked for this do you think?
My stepdad died of colon cancer and my dad died of bladder cancer that spread to his intestines. In my stepdads case he had pain in his stomach for months before he went to see the doctor (something about men being macho and just dealing with the pain rather than doing something about it), after he got diagnosed he lived 1,5 months.
Thanks for warning. I have ulcerative colitice and since i have diagnosed two years ago and i affried to have canser. Unfotunately in my country the health care system is very bad, so if i get canser i don't think doctors can do much.

I had a question
When a source of energy strikes an atom's electrons they absorb it and then subsequently release it back
As the intensity of light increases the frequency of the electromagnetic radiation decreases so if we heart an atom very high the electromagnetic radiation as electrons get back their initial orbits should move from visible spectrum to UV and further making the object invisible. Right?
is HPV considered an inflammatory disease? especially when HPV growths occur within the colon?

"IF you have access to healthcare." 😔
My late mum had regular screening with colonoscopies, CT scans and prior to that she had a polyp removed. All clear for 4 years and there was cancer everywhere in her body. So the point im making is that regular screening does not always stop it, if it's going to happen.
My sister was diagnosed at 44 years old but suffered symptoms long before getting checked. A year after surgery and chemo and she now has an ovarian cancer diagnosis. I truly wish she didn’t ignore the years of symptoms she was having.
I’m scared of the colonoscopy but I guess I gotta!
That is why people get this cancer they say, because they are scared like you say. I had mine done and I am fine. Do not play with death. Do not take risks. If you have it in your family you better make it a habit to get colonoscopies regularly. It is the only thing that will save you. Keep in mind that doctors make mistakes too so they might miss it. I have seen it happen. I am going for my next colonoscopy soon. I will go every 3 years. They say 5. No I am going every 3. I want to live. Do not trust those cologuards. That is useless.

My mom’s biodad (he left when she was 3, grew up knowing stepdad as dad, and biodad showed up again when she was 21/i was 4) had colon cancer. I remember him showing me the scar on his belly. His bellybutton was an inch to the right. He died less than 8 years later. My mom is in her 50s now, I’m 32. She hasn’t had symptoms. I feel like my having covid in March has aggravated(daily diarrhea for 2 months) my colon, and now i am terrified. Been hard trying to set up a consultation with doctor. Need a referral from primary physician in order to get a colonoscopy..
With my health coverage, it takes about month for each step. Make an appt with primary physician= it’ll be in a month. Referral by pp to specialist= wait for approval from health plan is 1 month. Call specialist to make appt= be seen in a month.. or so. It’s ridiculous. Too much “red tape” preventing me from getting seen on time.

S.solis, are you fine?
all prevention tho? is the cure going to help even if you had late diagnosis and already at high stages of cancer?
MY GOD THAT'S DEEP
In India, People often don't have the money to go to private hospitals (because they charge heavily) or don't go to government hospitals because they are so much overcrowded that people often don't get the right treatment and even who get treated for the cure they need waste so much unnecessary time for standing in queues that cost their daily earnings. The medical system needs to be better. And worst of all, governments are doing nothing about it.
man so true i am suffering from IBD and government hospital are night mare and private just want to earn money
