Seeing you just kinda winging it ,with some hits and misses, just eyeballing it,shows them it is mostly persistance and enthousiasm.Technical skills you pick up along the way,as you put more hours in. Wow, the tape gave a nice continuous, fluid shape. Looks incredible. I like it better without all the open screws of some widebody kits, make it look factory is my more my taste.

Nice work brother. Next time maybe tape the car and fill your void with expanding foam then shape it the next day. Also try using metal duct tape and waxing it with mold release instead of masking tape. The fiberglass will pop right off the tape and the surface will be smoother with metal tape over your shaped foam (less bodywork and weight). You can remove the foam after or leave it if you seal it in. Just some ideas. You got the job done though so bravo!

Great project look forward to your progress every week. I am in the process of building a Manx style beach buggy. I have the same issue but with my front guards not covering my tires I plan on cutting my fiberglass body down the middle and prying it open and glassing in a strip about 150mm wide thus doing away with all the fender flaring and re shaping. I don't know how your body attaches to the chassis but you would just have to cut your body down the center of your rear end and trunk and each side on the out side of your head rests. Then just glass in new strips. I have glassed in some tubes across the center line which I have rods that fit in perfectly so when i cut the body down the center. I put the rods in and the body will stay aligned when opened up. Good luck form Covid free NZ.

  • @johncartelli

yrs ago, when I made some fenders for a glass body car I used duct tape over pink insulation board. I made the fender out of the foam board first , got it to fit the body, then covered it with the duct tape. The polyester resin wont stick to the tape. however the resin will attack the glue of the tape so you need to be careful when applying the fiberglass not to get it under the tape.

You could modify your addition to closer follow the original body at this point, would possibly look better overall. For someone with no experience at this , you are going great. Take measurements of everything every step. If you leave all measuring till finished, when you do the otherside it will be more difficult to get an exact match as your transition points will all be slightly off as you will be measuring the finished piece rather than your starting points. Anything can be adjusted or fixed, but this will save a lot of time and work, looking good. Cheers

  • @JamesLarson47

Your custom widebody kit is cool and all but it's going to result in your car not being road legal. That tail light wrapped around to the side to that the red rear reflector could be seen on the side of the car. To be road legal in every state, there needs to be a red reflector on both sides of the car in the rear and yellow reflector on both sides in the front of the car. That's why most head lights and tail lights wrap around to the sides of the car now days.

    • @ElectricSuperCar
