I really really appreciate that you continue to produce dungeon world content. It is hands down my favorite TTRPG and bro you nailed this video again!!! You did it through the magic of …. Social Skliis.
Dragon might not even recognize that you’re trying to kill him. He might consider you a bothering insects. If you annoy him long enough, he might get mad and do something bad. Remember when Bilbo Bagginses player rolled a miss on a parlay roll and the Dragon went off and destroyed a city? Yes you annoyed a dragon and it’s your fault!!!
Thank you for addressing the DM moves as simply as you did. "Reveal an unwelcome truth" always made me feel like I needed some sort of secret up my sleeve... but using it to announce the dragon's breath attack made me realise that I was still relying on rules to be rules, and not a support for the conversation.
That's not how I interrupt it. I'd say the dragon about to spew it's green gas would be "Point to a looming threat" but it doesn't matter in the end what you call it so long as the fictional effect makes sense.
I am an avid PbtA acolyte and ran an entire campaign in Dungeon World a couple of years ago. Then, I fell out of love with it as I played more modern games and wrote it off as a fun but flawed gateway to better games. I want you to know finding your videos in the last few weeks has reawakened my interest and respect for this game and it will definitely see a return to my campaign rotation.
Showed some of your videos to my players to get them interested in DW(Unlimited Dungeons hack) this video my made up my players minds. They don't like the basic structure or concepts of the game.😢
Verisimilitude is my favorite word! Messy is a great tag to to show that you players that their defenses are just insufficient against what they are fighting. Personally I love fictional damage vs. points of damage. Having your arm broken by a Cassowary person is much more impactful than just taking 8 damage. I love the example of tearing fingers off. Just ask the folks that got ambushed by the Cassowary people on the game that I ran on your server. Thanks for doing what you do to entertain us.
@@LeMayJoseph yeah. They got ambushed by 12 of them. My cousin got his arm broken, the wind knocked out of him and a few teeth knocked out. The party was really worried cause they were getting hit hard. I am really glad that Tabletop Bro made is discord server for folks to run and play Dungeon World games.
Brilliant explanation of how Dungeon World is played. You must have a different mindset from Dungeons & Dragons. It takes practice to get into the groove. 🧙♂️
True. The major audience that any DnD killer must face is not one of a reasonably sized group of friends, but 8-14 randos who exclusively know each other through their LGS's game night
I didn't see anyone else mention this, so I just want to point out you're reading the dragon's damage wrong. (b [2d12]+5, 4 piercing) means you roll d12 twice, but only use the best (higher) number, then add five, ignoring up to 4 points of armor. At most, the dragon described in the monster section should deal 17 damage at a time. See page 23, under the "Best and Worst" section.
I feel like you should have credited the original 16 hp dragon blogpost, and i think the whole idea of players not saying their moves is pretty bad. Apocalypse World explicitly say you can do that, it's just that the GM will ask some questions. If a player says they want to do a move talk to them and work with them on what would actually be that move and how that looks like in the fiction. Saying no to them doesn't forward the story and playing this weird game of trying to say the stuff that makes the GM finally let you do what you wanted to is just not fun I think. Sure if your players don't think about moves, cool, that works too, but i think there is no reason to shut them down if they do, it's much better to build on it.
You're right, updated the description. I never shut down a player when they say exactly what move they want to do. I just follow it up with, "okay so what does that look like?" And if the player can give a good in fiction description of what they're trying to do, then fantastic I let them roll. In my experience after doing that a couple times, the players start thinking within the fiction and it doesn't become a problem.
Thank you very much for the tips bro, my last session with Dungeon World was very monotonous and boring even though it has the potential to be super epic. His videos have made me reflect a lot on my role as a narrator. Also, forgive me for anything that sounds guts in this text, I don't speak English and had to use Google Translate.
Did you play maplestory back at the day or do you just like the soundtracks? Because all these themes on your videos are a big dose of nostalgia to me haha.
Your videos are great. Interesting and useful content, well edited and produced, and you make it fun and funny. Keep going! Surprised your vids aren’t getting more views.
Thanks Augustin! I work really hard in them so it means a lot. I’m guessing they don’t get traction cause I talk about subjects that a very small minority of people care about
I once had a DM (more watched a DM since i didnt played myself but they were in the same room so i basicly sat at the same table) that would decribe things depeding how u roled. So on that Dragonbite a 1+1 would be decribed as "The fangs of the dragon close around u and u are barely able to escape but on of the gigantic fangs still scratches u for a deep fleshwound, u take 7 damage" and a 12+12 would be described as "the jaw closes around u as multiple fangs pierce ur ribcage and muscle. Ur left leg goes limb and u cant move ur arms that are pined between the dragons teeth. Blood is filling ur lungs and u view gets hazy, u take 29 damage". I found that always extremly cool.
It’s so fun hearing it here. I’m new to the channel but I’m really enjoying your videos! Thank you for making them! I’m going to try and get my 5e group into Dungeon World.
@@tabletopbro I mean, if you have a magic weapon with Ignores Armor, you’re an epic-level warrior by then, wielding a capital-a Artifact, so…shouldn’t you have a small chance of absolutely ganking a dragon?
