  • This visualization provides a three-dimensional perspective on Hubble's 25th anniversary image of the nebula Gum 29 with the star cluster Westerlund 2 at its core. The flight traverses the foreground stars and approaches the lower left rim of the nebula Gum 29. Passing through the wispy darker clouds on the near side, the journey reveals bright gas illuminated by the intense radiation of the newly formed stars of cluster Westerlund 2. Within the nebula, several pillars of dark, dense gas are being shaped by the energetic light and strong stellar winds from the brilliant cluster of thousands of stars. Note that the visualization is intended to be a scientifically reasonable interpretation and that distances within the model are significantly compressed.

    I'm so happy that Hubble has a RUclips channel, and I'm so disappointed that it has so few subscribers considering the incredible videos that are on here. I'm just glad I found this channel!

    A Westerlund Wonderland. Phenomenal. A perfect 40 second video. This also is magnified with the last 2 minutes of Sufjan Stevens' "Blue Bucket of Gold" starting @ (2:45). Oh Star Stuff

    been gradually absorbing and leaping greatly at the same time. Taking matters at a time while making a kind of an 'overhaul' of what had been a claustrophobic conceptions (as i call it) i have had for my more than forty years of life. This time a NEW conception coming from my own absorption of concepts based on SCIENCE. Gratitude to the people IN and BEHIND Hubble.

    It's fookin' amazing how big it is out there. And I bet that's not even 1% of what is really out there.

      That region in the image is probably less than 0.0000000001% of what's out there.

      +Tyler Vo give me evidence that we dont matter :). you know,, funny thing, people act like they know whether you are in the religious camp or the science, atheist camp. this questions still lie in the far fringes of the human mind/knowing, and it might still be houndreds of years still, untill we certainly know the answer, until then everyone can stick to their stumach feeling about this subject. if you ask me, just following the way of the nature, in space to make an object to move it needs to be pushed with energy/force. we live in a universe, thats obvious isnt standing still. but hey.. what the heck i know

      Zenn , we do matter. just cuz you dgaf about your purpose on this beatiful, living and giving planet you call a speck doesnt mean that there isnt something coalescing and emerging all around you, thru you, and quite frankly....within you my friend. something that you should recognize and savor and rely upon. its called humanity.

    This cluster is only around 2 million years old, containing many stars that are still growing, and some young hot blue stars. You can see stellar 'nurseries' nearby and one or two in the center of the cluster.

      No. The are still images taken from the hubble,placed into a computer program that turns it into a movie\video. Kind of like a flip book. Each image was taken over a specific length of time than hubble adjusted the distance and took another picture. Amazing what can be done. Cant wait till 2016 when new james web space telescope will be deployed.

    • @GanjaCoyote
      @GanjaCoyote 9 лет назад

      Stefanie Lundy In this case I think they used this flip book like method to generate a 3D model from the images and that was used to create this animation using specialized software developed for this purpose. Guessing from the credits that it's called Viz3D or that's the studio/project name etc.
