Thanks for this video! I actually bought two Avermedia GC573's based on your recommendation a long time ago and they have worked brilliantly, now going to order two of these webcams as well.
Fixed focus is definitely the right choice. There is a big problem with the Razer Kiyo focus hunting. I never noticed it in the BRIO but I had a controlled setup.
Good news, as of 12/23/2021, Amazon has this listed for $132.99. I ordered one and can't wait to try it in a week or so! Thanks for the review as this somewhat validates my choice as I came across this review after making my purchase on Amazon.
@Slugbo Chowdery Looks like you are correct. Not surprising since there are so many positive reviews everywhere? I was just getting ready to buy another one, but won't do it for that price. My main beef is that it takes a dedicated USB 3.0 port and I'm all out. Guess I'll have to spend more dollars on another USB card in my PC before I buy another one of the cameras. I need to look at Epos review of the Avermedia PW3 315?
Bitterly disappointed. Returned the camera already and bought a BRIO Stream instead. I don't know what's going on but my PW513 couldn't achieve anywhere near as clearer image as your review unit. No matter the light I threw at it. Please investigate @EposVox, think something is up...
The reason it looks better than the Canon VIXIA camcorders (I own an R60 but everything R2xx to present is basically the same core hardware) is the image sensors in those are all 1/4.85" sensors which is insanely small even when compared to the sensor (1/2.3"-1/2.5") in cheap point-and-shoot cameras. Even though the VIXIA camcorders have a full wide aperture of f/1.8 (1.3 stops better than this webcam) the sensor crop factor is 13.75x (versus a 1/2.3" sensor crop factor of 5.6x) so that advantage is nullified. The tiny sensor also means that diffraction becomes a problem throughout almost all of the zoom range, so everything looks soft, and the "wide" angle of a VIXIA is a 38.5mm equivalent which is a real pain for close-up uses like a webcam. Widening adapters for it are not great either. I would never ever recommend any of the ultra-cheap camcorders as webcams. The cheapies from other makers have the same issues as the VIXIA series; the Panasonic V180 has a much better wide angle (28mm) but the sensor is an insanely tiny 1/5.8", and the Sony HDR-CX405 is basically the same as the Panasonic. Unfortunately, most point-and-shoot and bridge cameras don't output clean HDMI either. You have to get a DSLR, mirrorless ILC, or premium (read: DSLR-priced) point-and-shoot to get something as simple as clean live HDMI video. It's insane. This webcam really does fill an exploding niche. I'm surprised that there isn't a whole heap of cameras like this out there.

Thank you so much for making this video. I was considering the brio before this simply because it works with usb 2.0 also but after seeing that it's still looks amazing when you get up really close to it, which was a concern for me, I simply can't justify NOT spending $50 more. At the time of posting this comment, the price dropped to $192 on amazon during a freak sale so it was a no brainer to grab this while I can. I'm choosing between the Avermedia pw513, Logitech Brio, and maybe splurge a little bit more on the Sony a5100 and work my way up to buying a Sigma 16mm 1.4 lens. After around 7 months since this video, do you still think it's the best streamer Webcam in the market? Thanks, and hope you're well!

Hi EposVox, nice video! Question: do you know when this will be available in continental Europe? Will your affiliate link work if I buy from amazon eu?
I desperately need your help!?! I am building a one of a kind mobile hair salon out of a 40 ft greyhound bus. I am not using mirrors at the stations. Instead I am using 4k tv monitors with cameras. Edit: forgot to mention that finally i manage to listen to a decent webcam mic, the rest just sound awful lol
Thank you for this review - very helpful. Not just in flagging up a decent webcam, but for explaining why the features it has are important. As an audio guy I've been bitten too many times with the buy cheap, buy twice (or even thrice in some cases) and so appreciate the info as to why spending a bit more makes sense. I'll check out your channel for other reviews, but I'd also like to see a comparison between this and an entry level "real" camera - one that would be a solid foundation for which lenses could be bought in future, but which would do an OK job in the meantime. Presumably we're talking about at least doubling the budget for such a camera?
As some feedback, I would have appreciated different lighting situations that gamers of all levels might have e.g. without ceiling light, with ceiling light, day time light from windows and studio lighting. It's a bit weird to watch a webcam review that features only studio style lighting that's it. When you swapped to 1080p 60fps that was great, because it looked "meh". I would like to see how "meh" it might look with worse lighting too.
Eh, I see where you're coming from but objectively streamers should not be using most of those setups. Want your webcam to look good? Turn off your ceiling fan light and turn on one in front of you. Otherwise it's always going to look bad, that's basic lighting 101. Any camera will look poorly that way. A window is also just going to be equivalent to soft lighting from studio lights. This is the basic streamer lighting setup.
I completely agree with you @justnvc. If I am looking at a webcam review, I like to see what it looks like, in all different setups. I know of a lot of people that stream, in the setups you mentioned. I personally believe, its not a true representation of the webcam, unless you show different setups. There wasn´t even a let´s see what it looks like with a greenscreen. @EposVox perhaps you should consider these types of things when doing a review. You need to show how a cam looks in different setups so us streamers, that do not have fancy setups can see how things look.
You guys aren’t accounting for the amount of effort and extra work that is. Logically people are just going to plop it into their current setups, but at $250 it’s not a good investment if you aren’t willing to invest in lighting also. Even a $1000 camera will look bad in less than optimal lighting scenarios. If you’re still using the ceiling fan as a light source; you’ll get a better quality image from whatever camera you’re using with better lighting. It wouldn’t be worth buying a $200+ webcam. Back to my original point, setting up the camera in front of a green screen, with ceiling fan and low lighting, next to windows and all that is a ton of extra effort and realistically isn’t something anyone should do-excluding green screen, I don’t know enough about them to know if camera quality will effect them or not. That’s just simply because I’m not interested in paying for a green screen setup and my room provides a good backdrop with some inexpensive lighting and my hobbys. (Guitar+amp and skateboard.)
@@jseshin6746 I'm confused at what your overall point is here. Are you saying that Epos should or should not have included additional tests? a) "Logically people are just going to plop it into their current setups" b) "but at $250 it’s not a good investment if you aren’t willing to invest in lighting also" My point was that people do both A and B and that's why it would be useful to see, not that people should stick to a cheapo webcam if they don't buy lighting. Also, some people don't want to have their bright video lights on every single time they go live, so they might want to know how it performs with dimmer and/or no lighting for situations when they're chill. I'm also going to say it... and especially because its during COVID quarantine for many... but there are probably NSFW reasons too 😂. You can make a C920 look great with good lighting though (outside of it's lower fov), so demonstrating both the good and the bad is imo worth it. It's a great video, but I'd just like to see a little more in the next webcam review!
I needed a webcam for the first time in years as I started a podcast during lockdown. I started with my phone using EpocCam Pro but it would just kill my phone battery and if I needed to use my phone I couldn't so I moved to my Sony A7 III but I wanted a more permanent solution so I ended up building my own using a raspberry pi and high quality camera. It's only 1080p 30fps due to the way raspberry pi works (I believe the sensor is capable of 4K) but it's super sharp. I have no knowledge of coding either and I still was able to get it to work.
I picked this camera up hoping it would work with my Surface Pro. The camera works, but the CamEngine software does not unfortunately. The preview remains blank so you can't use any of the virtual webcam features. The requirements for CamEngine say you need an Nvidia GPU and I guess they weren't exaggerating. Something to be aware of.
That's too bad about the 60fps mode, would like to see one of these compared head to head capturing a pinball playfield versus.. a c920? Here's an interesting thing a family member ran into, to take a test online their license had to be in focus at the start of the recording but their webcam lacked autofocus, had to use the cam built in to a laptop to move forward. Could this requirement be fulfilled with this product?
Cool video! I’ve been back and forth about buying another webcam but def is nice to have a camera that doesn’t require a capture card. I’ll give it a try!
Bought this and the video looked great when testing it for about a day. Then I tried to use it to record and it freezes permanently after a few seconds. Novice question - Where are you clicking to change the resolution? I want to dial it down to see if this helps.
Hi, can you do a full breakdown video comparison of the AVermedia PW 513 vs HuddlecamHD Pro 4k Webcam vs the Brio. Also can you give an example of how the quality would appear if standing at a distant ex: the back of your room, versus sitting directly near it behind a desktop?
what's happening with the 60fps mode is probably that the exposure time gets cut in half so you need to increase the ISO, increasing the noise level. That also means you will reduce some detail especially if you have noise reduction on which I think it has to some extent.
So this is definitely an improvement over what's out there. But what I really want is a webcam with a REAL LENS that can do a narrower field and more composed shots and not just a little pinhole.
So, say you were going to stream a wedding ceremony, and a very small camera was your only choice, and budget was a huge influence. Would this work out?
My PW513 arrived today and I have to say, the grainy noise is absolutely terrible. I am actually shocked at just how bad it is considering the positive reviews I've watched. It doesn't matter if I try tweaking settings in CamEngine, OBS or any other software, the grain is simply awful. Has anyone else had similar impressions?
What are you using for lighting? Most webcams will look quite grainy without good lighting. (As will most real cameras, just at a different threshold.)
@@EposVox Hey, just got mine today as well. You are right about the 1080 60fps. Pure garbage. This camera just can't handle that. The 4k 30fps is pretty bad too though. With multiple lights, low to no backlight, tweaking settings as much as you can, the noise is just insane. My logitech c920 looks tremendously better than this thing does with the same or even better lighting that what I've given the c920. I don't know if they had some issues with the first batch, or sent reviewers a bit better camera's or what, but there is no way anyone who has gotten the same camera as me can be ok with this thing and think it's giving you 250$ worth of cam quality.
Same here. In side by side comparisons with my Brio, the Brio wins no matter what I try. The AVerMedia's image is soft and super grainy. Also, most of the settings in the CamEngine software are disabled, which is super annoying. Turning down the brightness and adjusting the sharpness and saturation did help, but the Brio still had a much cleaner, sharper image. Another weird thing: with the camera physically centered on my monitor in front of me, I'm way off center in the frame. I have to turn the camera to a 15-20 degree angle to be centered. I really wonder if they're having manufacturing issues with this thing.

The only real feature this is missing that I'm super letdown by is Windows Hello. I know this seems small but at the price point, I really wish this was included. I know the Brio has a ton of faults but to me, that's a major selling point.
My brother has a racing event coming up for charity, he is trying to get this camera to work and neither of us can make it happen, theres crap for customer support if you call it just says offices are closed. Can you please help in a discord chat or something its really important, a lot of money involved and this is just depressing what we are going through.
IVcam ($24) (or DroidCamOBS/EPOCHcam) + USB cable + a old flagship phone decent camera (Xperia Z2 for example, or a newer phone if you want 4k - use the REAR camera for much better quality) + NVIDIA Broadcast will net you far better results + Autofocus than anything that Logitech offers.
I’ve returned to watch your video. Great videos and you respond to the viewers. I’m gonna go to Best Buy tomorrow. Will it work with a USBC-USBC? My iMac 💻laptop only has USBC. Will I also be able to use green screen w this camera? Pretty sure it would be fine. Thanks!

@@jseshin6746 I'm confused at what your overall point is here. Are you saying that Epos should or should not have included additional tests?
a) "Logically people are just going to plop it into their current setups"
b) "but at $250 it’s not a good investment if you aren’t willing to invest in lighting also"
My point was that people do both A and B and that's why it would be useful to see, not that people should stick to a cheapo webcam if they don't buy lighting.
Finally something that actually saves manual settings after a reboot. That is probably the biggest frustration I have with my c922
Cool video! I’ve been back and forth about buying another webcam but def is nice to have a camera that doesn’t require a capture card. I’ll give it a try!
Can I use it with my Mac?
Whats Mac / MacOS support like ?
What lighting are you using?
Wait, why isn't 60 fps on a webcam ideal? I notice the difference in smoothness fairly night and day and I feel it improves the overall experience no?
Bought this and the video looked great when testing it for about a day. Then I tried to use it to record and it freezes permanently after a few seconds. Novice question - Where are you clicking to change the resolution? I want to dial it down to see if this helps.
It's not for sale online anywhere in the UK!?
Love the videos man!
So is this good with a green screen?
I dunno about you guys but the image on his face looked soft to me the ENTIRE video. Is it focused on the back or is that just the camera?
Hi, can you do a full breakdown video comparison of the AVermedia PW 513 vs HuddlecamHD Pro 4k Webcam vs the Brio. Also can you give an example of how the quality would appear if standing at a distant ex: the back of your room, versus sitting directly near it behind a desktop?
So would you say upgrade from logitech C920 to this new cam ?
1000%
@@EposVox Sweet i just have to wait shows up in store or amazon so far dont see it .
love your room!
Really debating this over my c920!
what's happening with the 60fps mode is probably that the exposure time gets cut in half so you need to increase the ISO, increasing the noise level. That also means you will reduce some detail especially if you have noise reduction on which I think it has to some extent.
So this is definitely an improvement over what's out there.
But what I really want is a webcam with a REAL LENS that can do a narrower field and more composed shots and not just a little pinhole.
How does this compare to the HuddleCamHD Pro 4K?
some said you needed to wait until you have a kid before you get a proper good webcam, definitely on my buying list next year :D thanks
Looks really good. Already out of stock at every Best Buy near me.
Any idea if it's available to UK customers?
Thank you for the video - Planning for the December & January lock down and this product may be suitable.
The microphones in that actually surprised me. Wasn't too bad. Not as good as a real microphone, but not too bad.
Not being sold for UK yet?
what is a good camera for recording drawing on paper?
Impressive. It works without specific drivers, i.e., like a UVC device?.
Yes
@@EposVox Wow, super fast answer! Thanks man. Working as a UVC device will make it work smoothly on Linux.
Windows Hello compatible?
Finally a worthy opponent for my c922👀👀
So, say you were going to stream a wedding ceremony, and a very small camera was your only choice, and budget was a huge influence. Would this work out?
I’d say so
I wish I knew where he got that Playstation neon sign from
Looks nice I wonder if I should just replace my brio now
Could you please tell me what mount/holder you use for the Logitec brio 4K web cam at 02:29 ?
you made a comment saying that there was a way to flash the Can't links to do 1080 60... is it possible to link the video to that?
do you know when its available in germany ?
Hi! I’ve been concerned by the negative feedback on other sites about this webcam, so I bought a new retail sample in December and decided to give it a new review to see if anything had changed and respond to some of the complaints:

Will it work with StreamYard?
HuddleCam HD Vs AVerMedia PW513 ?
THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN GREAT 6 MONTHS AGO WHEN I WAS REPLACING MY WEBCAM!!!!!!!
Nice vid BTW.
Great review bud. Thanks for putting this out. We'll done once again.. 👍👍😎🙏
i know the video is about the webcam but this is the best eposvox i've heard in a while from what i'm guessing is the shotgun mic setup?
It’s the same audio I have in every video in this room lol
The only real feature this is missing that I'm super letdown by is Windows Hello. I know this seems small but at the price point, I really wish this was included. I know the Brio has a ton of faults but to me, that's a major selling point.
where do I find the CamEngine software?
my question is where did the playstation neon sign come from, was it custom made or did you buy it from someplace
Was in a local game shop window for like 20 years and then they had a liquidation auction when they shut down and I bought it
My brother has a racing event coming up for charity, he is trying to get this camera to work and neither of us can make it happen, theres crap for customer support if you call it just says offices are closed. Can you please help in a discord chat or something its really important, a lot of money involved and this is just depressing what we are going through.
How does this compare to the Logitech Brio 4K?
Yeah, i am curious about that too.
From the looks of the footage, looks a ton better
@@BensWatchClub Hey it’s Bens Watch Club!
@@BandrewScott Hey Bandrew, love your channel! Hope my audio doesn't suck too much haha
@@BensWatchClub Ben knows who I am!? Stop it. Your audio is great. Keep up the awesome work man. Love your channel.
Does this support Windows Hello?
Thanks!
Yes and yes!
My frustrations with companies like Logitech (Logicool on this side of the pond) is what led me to using action cams as a substitute.
