Paris Austerlitz Station (France SNCF) on 29th March 1998
Paris Gare d'Austerlitz
After yet another long overnight haul as the clocks went forward 1 hour, which did confuse times a little, we arrived in Paris and the station of Austerlitz. This place reminded me of how London Euston was in the early morning with all the arriving sleeper trains and shunting back in the 1970s. The difference being these trains were arriving from Madrid and Port Bou also Hendaye and Toulouse. Some very long trains were observed with 17 carriages. All traction was Overhead Electric and were of SNCF classes BB7200, BB9200 and BB80000. A couple of the sleeper trains were made up of Spanish Talgo Stock. I believe the station clock on the end of the platform was showing the correct time.
I do hope this video entertains and evokes old fond memories of the European Railway Scene of the era. I hope you are enjoying the series, and if you are familiar with the areas featured, feel free to comment and if you do like the clip please subscribe and Like.
Merci pour ces souvenirs.
En 1998 j'avais 17 ans.
Je me baladais à Paris gare d'Austerlitz avec des amis et on regardais les train de nuit partir.
Le bon temps...

Thank you for these memories.
In 1998 I was 17 years old.
I was walking around Paris Gare d'Austerlitz with friends and we were watching the night trains leave.
The good times...
They certainly were good times my friend....Many thanks and wishing you well....Mark
The "Talgo Pendular" from Madrid left Chamartín station at 19:30 the day before, and ran to Burgos on the Aranda de Duero line. It only stopped in this city, on the border with Irun (for the change of track gauge and locomotive), in Bordeaux and in Orleans.
At the beginning of this century, this service was renamed "Tren Hotel Francisco de Goya", being increasingly diverted through Valladolid, and disappearing when the high-speed line from Madrid to Barcelona and the French border came into service.
Thank you so much for the information on the sleeper train, very much appreciated and best regards....Mark
Good evening ! Great video again, thanks for sharing !
You're always welcome and many thanks....Mark
The 7200/15000/22200 family are some of my favorite electric locos.
Old 9209 still carrying the livery it was new in in 1957
WOW The fact the locomotive is still in service is amazing and all those loco's are excellent...Many thanks Andrei....Mark

And between 1969 and 1996 the "Puerta del Sol" express ran between Madrid and Paris, which in the years it coincided with the "Talgo Pendular" arrived at Austerlitz station half an hour after it, as it stopped at more stations (Aranda, Burgos, Miranda de Ebro, Vitoria, San Sebastián, a 45-minute stop in Irun (for changing axles and engines), Bayonne, Bordeaux and Orleans).
So many thanks Oscar....My sincere gratitude and best wishes...Mark

Another great video from you in France. The sleeper operations is still quite complex even today at Austerlitz especially in the Summer so I plan to go there soon to see it all in action. Still plenty of loco hauled action.
That is so good to hear of a location that is still alive so.....Many thanks and sincere wishes...Mark
J'aime ta vidéo

El "Mare" no es, es el Joan Miró de Barcelona😊
Thank you so much for that as I was not completely sure due to the clocks going forward that day....It threw me into all kinds of confusion....My sincere regards for that....Mark
