If this episode didnt exist, we wouldnt have that quote from Cordy. Also it feels like this becomes somewhat more interesting after watching Normal again. Still I would have prefered it to just be.. really good. At least there something cool about the monster that only kids can see, using its eyes to attack. As if connecting because hey can see him, and saying something about childrens view of the world being taken away as a way of killing them.
The themes here are very much those of prophecy girl. In s1 it would be foreshadowing. Here it shows the non-straight progression of growing up. Pretty neat actually.
"They do what the Scooby Doobies Do" 😀😂 The reason this episode is one of my least favourite episodes of Buffy is precisely what you said, the episode does nothing to further the characters or plot. It is one of the few episodes I often skip on watch throughs.
Teacher's Pet, Ted, Bad Eggs and probably a few others are episodes I used to skip. I do appreciate some of those episodes a lot more now that I've analysed them.

LOL if that quote didn't appear in this episode, it definitely would have appeared in another, it's too Cordie.
@@whatthepop925 Very true!

Yeah that's what I said, that growing up is seldom a straight progression, but this ep just doesn't hit its theme particularly well.
