You have to choose wisely of the surface you place it on. I'd it is to concave, the plastic of the outside will hit. Then it will get worse with the twisting and movement from the Bat. You just have to learn as you go. I wish I could show you in person. I personally have been using this technique for years without denting.

What blade and handle are you using?
They are both Equalizer brand. Handle is MEH234, blade is EHB186. Those part numbers should do it for you.
