Hi Both and New Year! I'm glad to see you didn't go for a munchkin cat or scottish fold as that would have encouraged the breeding of more cats with those deformities and health issues. Munchkin cats with short legs are intentionally bred because humans think they look cute but the genetic mutation has no benefit to the cats themselves. In fact, it stops them from behaving instinctively as they're not able to hunt as well when they can't jump or run like a regular cat. They are also more likely to get arthritis because all their weight is loaded on their short legs. Scottish folds have abnormal bone development and are predisposed to severe joint problems, again bred just because humans like the way they look and breeders can sell them for a high price. I also hope that when you get your second cat, if you do, to adopt one from a shelter instead! Cats bought from pet stores are usually from cat mills (aka cat torture houses). I recommend researching more about cat and dog mills, you'll know why you don't want to support them. Cats from shelters may not have exotic features or nice colours but they're still really cute!
