Fire has been a big theme for us recently with this huge wildfire that came close to burning our farm. In todays video I revisit the areas I filmed on the night of that big fire fire and see the damage it caused. Thankfully no people or houses were harmed in this fire but a few agricultural buildings and lots of land was completely burned! If you haven't seen it yet, check out the video of the fire as it happened that night: ruclips.net/video/BQshAkSV71U/видео.html
Eucalypts need fire to regenerate and will come back bigger and better. I think it’s great that many off gridders are eliminating eucalypts, mimosas, other acacia. As an Aussie, I love these trees but not in Portugal. Without the investment in rooting out invasive species, it will be an uphill battle against wildfires. Have a great week.
I think your farm has great fire breaks ,i was sad to see all the vines destroyed in the young couples farm you showed us totally devastated a week after the purchase however the houses were saved thank you for the video.
The fires were scary and a sad sight to see it happen, but it is good to see that not all is lost and that things are growing back so quickly. Thanks for the update on that topic. 👍
I also appreciate that you went back to make this follow up look at the fire-affected areas. The views afforded from your filming gear -- they're not readily available like fire footage. This gives, as you said, fuller thought to fire, which folks looking to reside there should see and contemplate. I'm glad you shared encouragements and good info. Thanks, Ken.
Anyone buying property in Portugal should avoid buying next to the Eucalyptus plantations , it is not a matter if there will be a fire it is just a matter of when , the Eucalyptus plantations owners don't loose a toss in the fires , the natives are dead for good but by next spring the Eucalyptus are green again and back in business.
Great initiative to show the "AFTER", Ken. The nature always get a way to turn to balance again. Thank you for the images. God bless Portugal and all the Portugueses.
Mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the mid day Sun but a South African rides his ebike into a wild fire! 🙂 Thanks for the up date. It's amazing how quickly nature starts to cover up the evidence of the fire. As you said, it's a real shame about the trees because they take so long to grow.
@@Electrowave haha thanks dude. At the farm the fire looked huge, so I had to see how bad it was incase we had to evacuate. Didn't seem mad at the time, bit now it does 🤣👍
@@OKportugal It's all a case of knowing what you're doing and keeping an eye on things to keep safe, but with all the videos of ebikes catching fire it amused me to see you ride one into a huge fire 😀
@@Electrowave I make calculated risks. And they pay off usually... part of being a chronic overthinker and seeing all possibilities. It's how I moved to Portugal after all 🤣
Fortunately for your friends. And the silver lining in this davastating fire is the landscape will come back. It didn't touch your living quarters. Nevertheless. It's heartbreating when you see it. Ken, I'm sure it's not video you want to make. Nice Job ! Jim and Harriet
Muito triste esses incêndios, e o mais triste é que muitos são provocados por criminosos, aqui no Brasil muitos incêndios são provocados por pessoas más.
after a fire the soil is very fertile. Everything will be green again. When there are still green peaces on the trees, and does not snap, it will grow again. Too bad for the couple that had bought it just before the fire, but also there, it will be OK. Even roots under the ground have power to re -grow again.
Sure, its from Engwe Bikes and the model of this one is the M20. It was my favourite bike until I jus got their new "Engwe Engine Pro 2.0"! I've only had this new one a few days now and its really good! I'm going to take it out for a vlog this week and itll go onto the channel in a week or two. I will try and get a discount for the viewers too for that episode.
@@ducoduckootje6737 by your username I'm guessing you are Dutch... and this may come as a surprise to you but the dutch don't pronounce english or portuguese words properly either. It's part of having an accent. Fortunately most people understand that when speaking with a foreign person and appreciate that they are trying their best 😁👍
@@OKportugal A great guess! My reaction may have sounded a bit negative, but I like your content verry much! In Portugese My accent is terrible as well 😃. In portuguese wildfires it’s common that oak forest patches are little touched by fire
