It behaved as if it had a tail like a comet, but it didn’t. That was what was so confusing and where all the alien spacecraft theories came from. It had 0 to do with the slingshot effect.

I agree that the theories surrounding what it could be are fantastical, but the fact remains that it did indeed get a boost from something we don’t quite understand at this point. Curious, my first thought was that their unique solar sail design was more effective than we expected. Surfing the solar wind, plus the gravity boost, and interacting with the magnetic field could be surprisingly effective. The slow revolution might also be a way to mange heat when close to a star.

The fastest rocket we have produced so far is 165,000 MPH vis 196,000 for Oumuamua, if there had been the will, I am sure we could have done something to investigate.
