Excellent How To Video DODGE RIDER. I followed it and was done in less than 30 minutes.
After a year with my stock 15T sprocket, I finally decided to change to the 14T to check on its benefits. Hands down this is the cheapest and most effective performance mod you can make to your Grom. For my type of riding, mostly city street fighting, the bike now has far better acceleration from stop lights. The power curve now is more usable and gone is the tall 4th gear feel of the regular 15T sprocket. I do not know if Top Speed is improved, but from an everyday riding perspective where you have to sprint from stop light to stop light this is the best mod for your money. My only regret I didn't do it earlier,

The speedometer is off, however it's within the normal tolerances from most japanese bikes. Remember, a typical 600-1000cc sport bike displays 65mph when traveling 60 or 61. Stock, the Grom read 65 at 65. Now it displays 65 when traveling at 61. This is off by 4mph at that speed, but the Grom spends more time at slower speeds in the range of 35-50. At those speeds, its only off by 2 or 3mph. This is an acceptable amount so I would not recommend buying a speedo healer for a -1 tooth change.

Bike pulls to 9400 RPM. Stock it didn't have enough power to hit the actual fuel cutoff at 9400. Now, I have hit the fuel cutoff several times. Though the theoretical top speed is reduced, I have a higher actual top speed due to the effective increase in torque at the rear wheel.

For those wondering, the top speed (GPS verified) I was able to obtain with this gearing change was 69mph. That was at the fuel cutoff/rev limiter in 4th gear.

Mine is 60 but lots of rpm left. If I am drafting it's 70mph.

Hi I'm about to change the chain and sprockets on my boys msx/grom.
Does anyone know what torque settings the rear sprocket Nuts Are?
I can't find them listed anywhere.
    Thanks

At most he lost 3% of top speed if stock. If he opened the intake (see his grom intake video) and/or exhaust there is likely little loss or may be a gain in top speed. The question is whether to get the speed correction device or not.

I installed an aftermarket exhaust, and now 4th seems useless. I know I need to gear down now, and wonder if in my case, and yours, did gearing down increase your top speed?

I’m about to do this. The only thing I’m worried about is messing with the rear wheel. I don’t have a torque wrench. How tight do those bolts need to be on the rear axel ?

As others I appreciate you sharing you're knowledge.
How many teeth does the stock front sprocket have?
Reason I ask I want to go up one , will that help with a little on the top end?
I'm trying to keep my bike as stock as I can, I only want to sustain 62MPH, I just installed the M4 exhaust btw.

he may have gained some speed since he didn't have enough power to hit the rev limiter with stock gearing.
dodge is your speedo going to be off now?

I bought a 14T for my new grom I’m getting. This adds more acceleration right ? I live in the city which is why I bought the 14T.

Are you still running the 14t? I cruise alot at 45-55 and noticed with the 14t my rpms are about 2-400 more with the 14t then the 15t at say 50 mph...53 indicated with the 14 as the speedometer is slightly off...do you think this has any bad effects on the motor cruising more around 7200 rpm rather then 6800 with the 15? Thanks man.

    • @MotorcycleProjects

This motor will not be hurt by such a small gearing change. In fact, closer gearing such as this will reduce the strain on the engine long-term because you are not working it as hard to accelerate the bike from a stop. The only consideration with changing gearing and how it affects the motor is that prolonged riding at high RPM (on any bike) lends itself to requiring more frequent valve adjustments. In the case of the Grom even stock, if you are cruising faster than 40-45mph on a regular basis, you are already running the motor in a "high" RPM range. Check your valves on schedule and you will be fine though. This motor has been utilized in thousands of bikes with a considerable amount of mileage built up over time and everything I found on the internet showed that stock it really didn't stress the valves too much so adjustments were not often needed, or were only very slight adjustments.

so you lost about 4 mph assuming stock was 15/34 and it pulls to almost 8,000 rpm
