There have been just 24 perfect games in over 140 years of MLB history. 2012 was an incredible year with three.
And Harvey Haddix going 12 perfect innings before losing the game in the 13th!
And only one of those perfect games was in the postseason (Don Larsen in the 1956 World Series). Fun fact: both Larsen and Yogi Berra (who caught his perfect game) were on hand for David Cone’s perfect game at the old Yankee Stadium.
I just saw someone say once every six years. The fact that he said “Once every year? Once every decade?” is hilarious, it’s literally right in the middle.

HUGE moment for NYC no matter what team you rooted for! Even if you hated the Mets or baseball in general, that home run was HUGE in helping NYC start to heal.
Yep, as a New Yorker and Mets fan, that obviously meant a lot to me. But it was big deal for NY in general and even the USA in general. It was a weird time right after 9/11 where doing anything normal felt abnormal. This was a moment where it went beyond baseball and made things feel normal again. Obviously we can never get back those that we lost and are still losing to after effects of that horrible day, but that home run was a glimmer of hope for the city in a way, that we could get back to normal.
There's some Chipper Jones video (for the uninitiated, Chipper Jones was a hall of fame 3rd baseman, who was in the prime of his career at that time, for the Braves, who were the Mets bugaboo, they were just always better and the Mets rarely had success). Chipper Jones said he never wanted to lose, especially to the Mets, but he was okay losing that day, or something to that effect.
11:31 in 154 years of Major League Baseball and over 238,500 games played, a perfect game has only been thrown 24 times. That’s how rare it is.
And don't forget about Harvey Haddix pitching 12 perfect innings only to lose the perfect game, shutout, and game itself in the 13th. Had that game been played under today's rules, Haddix would have lost in the 10th (or 11th) and still gotten credit for a perfect game!
Elias Sports Bureau, MLB's official statkeepers, has said that a pitcher who does not allow a baserunner, but loses the game due to extra innings starting with a runner on second base (2 sacrifice flies or bunts or a combination score the runner without allowing a runner to reach first base) the pitcher will still get credit for a perfect game.
But if 2 or more pitchers combine on a 9 inning (or more) perfect game, they will not be credited for it!!! Only a perfect game if there is only one pitcher! Go figure!

@@psymar as long as the pitcher does not allow a batter to reach first base, it is a perfect game. A fielder's choice would take away the perfect game since the batter would reach first.
Also.. I've played a simulated game in Out of the Park Baseball where Ed Kranepool made an error on a popup in foul ground.. Al Jackson (who pitched a couple of 1 hitters for the early Mets) did not allow a baserunner. It hasn't happened in the majors, but I wonder if there has ever been a perfect game in any professional league that had an error on a foul popup! As long as the pitcher doesn't allow the batter to reach first base he gets credit for perfection. An error on an easy foul pop fly just extends the at bat.
7:27 The batter that hit the walk-off home run for Atlanta was Chipper Jones. It was the 468th and final home run of his career. He played 19 years in the majors, all of them for the Braves, and was the last remaining player from their 1995 championship team.

The 1988 Dodgers were extreme underdogs the entire year.
Yet they made it to the World Series to face the favored Oakland A's.
Kirk Gibson (#23) was unable to play due to torn ligaments in his right knee AND a pulled left hamstring.
With the Dodgers trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the ninth inning of the first game of the 1988 World Series, manager Tommy Lasorda allowed Gibson to hobble up to the plate, and shocked the life out of the A's with that hit. .
And they’re still looking for a non-COVID-bubble championship 35 years later! 😉

That last one was epic. In game 1 of the 1988 World Series, there was doubt on whether or not Kirk Gibson would he able to play, as he had two bad knees. Yet for some reason, in the bottom of the ninth, Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda opts to have him pinch hit. When he was seen coming out of the dugout to hit, announcer Vin Scully said "When you talk about a roll of the dice, this is it". Even though that home run was Gibson's only appearance in the series, it still greatly helped the Dodgers with eventually defeating the A's to win the whole thing.
My late father would say things like "That pitcher's throwing manure balls 'cuz they're knocking' the crap out of them!"
His commentary made baseball even more fun....
0:45 José Fernandez, marlins pitcher. He died in a boating accident, not Aaron Hernandez who you’re thinking of, who is the murderous tight end who played for the patriots.
He died in a boating accident where he was very high on cocaine and driving a boat at high speeds in the dark. And he killed other people while doing it.
Sad to say, but he did it to himself and he deserves as much sympathy as a drunk driver who killed someone! If he survived, he would have belonged in prison.

Yeah, in fairness Aaron Hernandez and José Fernandez were both murderers. Driving 65+ mph on a boat while high and drunk then crashing killing everyone on board is NOT an accident

There have been 24 perfect games in MLB history. One of the rarest feats a single player can accomplish in baseball.
Not to be confused with a no-hitter. While a perfect game is technically a no-hitter, in a perfect game the pitcher records 27 outs without allowing a baserunner. In a no-hitter you can allow walks, and baserunners on errors.
There is a loophole in the new rules where extra innings start with a baserunner that makes it possible for a pitcher to throw a perfect game and lose... but don't get me started on that!!!

Baseball playoffs are INTENSE, and they are happening right now. The season is mostly a picnic atmosphere unless your team is in a tight division race.

I know everybody's got their moments that are somehow missing from this list, but for me, I need to see Edgar's double in the Kingdome in the 1995 ALDS vs the Yankees. It essentially saved baseball in Seattle.
Totally agree. Another clutch hit from Mr. Consistent himself and Jr's huge smile from the bottom of the pile at home plate, the entire stadium losing their collective minds! One of the biggest moments in Seattle sports history for sure!

There’s nothing like attending a game, so much energy and excitement from the crowd, it’s epic. And I’m no sports fan but live is way better than watching on tv. College games is even more so, college fans are true diehard fans.
Pretty sure you never have to worry about someone hitting a 500 yard home-run, but a 500 foot home-run is also pretty rare.
Some of these I remember watching on TV, most of them were playoff / championship games or bottom of the 9th/extra inningings walk off games (when a player knocks in a run to win the game in front of a home crowd). I haven't been to a play off or championship game, but I HAVE been to walk-off games and you are right the atmosphere is ELECTRIC! Even if you are in a sports bar watching on TV with people you hardly know, or sitting at home alone with your cat, if your team is the winning team, you jump up and down, yell and dance around like crazy!
I remember going to games with my dad, "daddy, how come when we watch on TV at home the Giants (my team for almost 40 years now) win, but when we come to the game, they lose?" I don't remember what piece of fatherly wisdom he gave me, but the next game I went to, the Giants won 21-2! "Daddy, that was fun! I hope it's like that the next time we come!" "Katy, you're never going to see a game like that again." ~35 years later and he's so far been right.
Your next visit to America, you have to attend a baseball game in person! There’s nothing like it!!!
There’s no better feeling than playing in your home stadium and making the play, whether on the field or at bat, that wins it for your team. To get a perfect game you have to get 27 outs without giving up a hit or a walk. Extremely difficult to do.
That 2nd clip was the first MLB game the NY Mets played after 9/11
The CUbs winning the World Series in 2016 was a HUGE deal because they had not won a World Series since 1908.. and had not been in the World Series since 1945.
Yeah, my dad went his entire life without the Cubs even playing in a world series, let alone winning one.
And yet the Cubs were so dominant in those early years that they're still 5th for pennants won among National League teams with 17. Their World Series win in 1908 was their second in a row, and part of a streak of 4 world series appearances in 5 years.
Football is great. Baseball is the heart and soul of this country. These highlights are from playoffs, the most meaningful moments of baseball.
The Bautista Hime Run is so famous that it literally has its own video on RUclips of just that inning. It's one of the most famous bat flips of all time and quite possibly the Loudest an MLB stadium had ever been for just one inning.
6:36 the cardinals were a strike away from losing the world series but the hitter David Freese tied in the bottom of the 9th. 6:55 later in the game in extra innings the same guy David Freese hit a game winning home run forcing a game 7 where whoever wins wins the world series and because of David Freese the Cardinals went to game 7 and won the world series.
There are so many other plays in baseball history that should have made this video. All of the ones that did, are very much wortthy.
Just surprised that the Joe Carter 93' World Series homerun, Nolan Ryan's 5,000 strikeout or any of his 7 no-hitters or Ricky Henderson breaking the all time Stolen Base Record, Bo Jackson and his bat breaking, Ozzie Smith and his World Series Homerun, The first game in 98' for the Cubs after Harry Carrey passed away, the infamous Nolan Ryan vs Robin Ventura fight, Cal Ripken, Jr. breaking the all time consecutive games played record, Ted Williams finishing a season with a .400 batting average and just so many more amazing moments in baseball history.
It makes me wish some of the great moments from the 1800's and early 1900's could have been on video tape. Just so we could relive the magic of Christy Matthewson or Mordacai "Three-Finger" Brown.
Baseball has a very rich history. Some bad moments like the steroid scandal in the late 90's or the Black Sox incident or Pete Rose being banned for gambling on games and throwing games.
But it has way more amazing moments where a guy makes it to the MLB level and you can see it on his face as a rookie, that his childhood dream has come true and even though he is a professional ball player, part of him wants to cry like he is 5 years old and dreaming of being like his favorite player.
It really is an amazing game, with lots of amazing moments.

Too bad you won't be here in the US during baseball season. I think you would really enjoy not just the game, but the whole stadium experience! Among sports, watching a baseball game in the stadium is totally unique from any other sport.
The Mike Piazza HR was the first game played in NYC after 9-11

I know that the second one where Piazza hit a home run was in the first major league game in New York City after 9/11 so that's why that was such a big deal especially because Piazza was beloved. Most of the rest are simply game winners or more specifically a lot of them are during championship games that help them advance.
I will never forget Kurt Gibsons home run. He hadn't even dressed for the game or was he introduced at the start. Both legs damaged. Hamstring in one and knee on the other.
13:31 Kirk Gibson was an older player who was supposed to be on the Disabled List for this game. He had two bad knees, and said he didn't know which one to limp on. Regardless, he made a clutch play for the LA Dodgers and helped them earn a championship.
Batista caught a lot of flak for that bat toss.
All of these moments, most, are from playoff games!!! High tension, wild fans!! Its a blast!!!⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️ Perfect games are very rare!!! That's why all the fuss when it happens!!😉😉

I was at the Cueto game. I was laughing so hard I didn't see the home run. Pirates fans hate The Reds. Cueto was (once again) pitching well. But some close pitches didn't go his way and the crowd started to tease him by chanting his name. He came completely apart and was taken out.

Perfect games are rare when you consider the number of games played every year recently.
Another stat worth mentioning for pitchers specifically are no-hitters. In over 140 years of MLB there have been 325 no-hitters. That’s an average of around 2.3 per year.

It’s called an immaculate inning, and that’s when a pitcher strikes out every batter in and inning with three pitches each.
Technically there have been more immaculate innings than perfect games, but if you consider that and pitcher could get one any inning and yet only 114 have even been recorded should attest to its difficulty
Simply put, 10:18 is the greatest moment not only in the history of baseball, not only in the history of professional sports, but quite possibly in the history of human existance as well. Indeed, the sun could go dark, and the world could grow dim, but still the universe would be at peace, because the Chicago Cubs had won a World Series.

I At 9:15 I believe this was a walkoff in Game 4 of either the DS or CS
At 9:52 This was Rajai Davis game tying Home Run in game 7 of the 2016 World Series, this game is arguably one of the greatest in Baseball history.
At 10:19 This is the final out of the 2016 WS as the Cubs not only surmounted a 3-1 series deficit, but they won their first World Series in 106 Years.
At 10:47 This was the last game of Derek Jeters career, he played for the Yankees across his entire career and his final hit was a game winner
At 11:09 Is Felix Hernandez's Perfect game, an incredibly rare feat, since this game in 2012 there has been one perfect game thrown which occurred in 2023.
At 11:47 Walk Off Grand Slam, incredibly rare
11:42 Walk off hit in Game 7 of the 2002 World Series, against the greatest closer Mariano Rivera

Ozzie Smith's walkoff homerun to win Game 5 of the National League Championship Series in 1985 was incredible. Especially since Ozzie Smith hardly ever hit homeruns.
There are fans that listen to the game on their phone while they are actually there because of the announcers!!!! Listen to the excitement in their voices!
Just watch a couple postseason games in the next week or so. The atmosphere is unmatched in American sports. Not even college sports can compare to the electricity at a postseason baseball game. Its literally NUTS. Every single pitch fans are on pins and needles.
Video 1)....Jose Fernandez had died in a boating accident....He was a star pitcher, young, and it's sad, but he was driving the boat recklessly and under the influence and others died. That wasn't known at the time and in the first at bat for his team after his death Dee Gordon, who doesn't hit many homers, homered. Video 2) 2:55. This was the first game back in New York after 9-11, in a stadium used during rescue and relief efforts, and Piazza hit the big homerun in the 8th to take the lead and the city rejoiced for the first time since.... Video 3) 3:28--Jose Bautista back when those type of celebrations after a homer were a big no no in an inning that was insane for the type of mistakes and crazy plays that had happened in the top half of the inning in this playoff game.... Video 4) --3:57---- Pirates had finally made it back to the playoffs after having 20 consecutive losing seasons and well they were happy.... Video 5) 4:32 Lindor hit a Grand Slam to bring the Indians back in the game against the Yankees....big playoff moment, on here because of the crowd noise....Video 6) 4:58--Again a crowd noise situation on a big hit late in a playoff game. Orioles hadn't done much in recent years so it was a big moment.....Video 7) 5:27--Big Papi hit a game tying Grand Slam in the 8th of a playoff game and spurred the Red Sox on their way to another World Series title...he had become a very clutch playoff hitter....Video 8) 5:52 Evan Longoria hit that homer in the 12th to win the game and get Tampa into the playoffs. That whole day, Day 162, of that season had all sorts of drama and insanity. For this Tampa needed to win and Boston need to lose. Boston was playing a very very bad Baltimore team and were winning in the 9th inning. Tampa was at home but fell behind 7-0 to the Yankees. With 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th about to have their season finished a pinch hitter came up and got his only hit of the entire season, a homer down the line to send it to extra innings. After rain delays in Baltimore the Orioles came back out and scored 2 in the 9th after 2 were out and stunned Boston...just a minute later Longoria hits this homer to send Tampa to the playoffs..... Video 9) 6:36...Rangers led the World Series 3 games to 2. The Cardinals were down to their final strike. Freese, who grew up near there, came up and hit this 2 out 2 strike triple that send the came into extra innings. In the 10th the Rangers went back ahead on a Josh Hamilton homer but again down to their final strike in the bottom of the 10th Lance Berkman singled to center and the Cardinals tied it again. Freese came up in the 11th and hit the walk off homer. Joe Buck said "We'll see you tomorrow night," to honor his legendary father Jack Buck, who ended game 6 of the 1991 World Series with that same call when Kirby Puckett homered to send that series to Game 7. It wasn't the first time Joe said. He said it in Game 6 of 2002 World Series after the Angels dramatic late inning comeback to force game 7 against Bonds and the Giants. In 1991 the Twins won Game 7, in 2002 the Angels won Game 7, and here in 2011 the Cardinals would go on to win Game 7...Video 10)...7:26....Chipper Jones hits the walk-off homer...couldn't tell you the significance of that one other than being a game winner.... Video 11) 8:12....Conor Gillaspie turned around a high pitch from flame thrower Aroldis Chapman to put the Giants up in an elimination game for them in the playoffs. Cubs did go on to win however....Video 12) 8:31....Subway Series, regular season game, between New York Yankees and New York Mets...it was Lindor's 3rd HOMER of the game...Video 13) 9:01 Magglio Ordonez hits a game winning 3 run homer to complete a 4 game sweep of Oakland and send the Detroit Tigers to their first World Series (I think) since 1984 Video 14) 9:47--Rajai Davis, not know for homers, hits a 2 run homer off again flame thrower Aroldis Chapman with the Cubs leading and 4 outs away from their first World Series since 1908 (108 years). Cleveland has not won one since either '48 or '45 so it was huge for both. This game went extra-innings before the Cubs scored 2 and held on to win it all Video 15) 10:43...Derek Jeter was retiring and this was his last at bat at Yankee Stadium. Yankees finished the season in Boston where he did bat again, but this was his final at bat at Yankee Stadium and he hit a walk off single Video 16) 11:06...Felix Hernandez completes his perfect game....as other have stated those are extremely rare Video 17) 11:37--David Bote fulfills the dream of any kid who has played baseball in the backyard, on a computer, or anywhere, hitting that game winning grand slam when down 3 with 2 outs. Not a playoff game, which would have made it beyond crazy, but the moment all ballplayers dream about...Video 18) 12:05...in the 2001 World Series the D'backs won the 1st two at home, choked the middle 3 in New York giving up dramatic late inning homers, blew out the Yankees in Game 6, and then did the impossible which was rally for a couple of runs off the future unanimous Hall of Famer Mariano Rivera. This was Luis Gonzalez getting the dink hit over the drawn in infield to win Game 7 Video 19) 12:25....Game 1 of the 1988 World Series....Dodgers were the underdogs to a loaded A's team. The batter was not expected to play because he was injured. He said he could go up and swing it, but he wouldn't be able to run. He fouled off some pitches and had received advice on what Hall of Famer Eckersley liked to throw in that situation so he sort of guessed what was coming. He one legged it over the wall to walk off with the Game 1 win and the Dodgers went on to win that World Series. The broadcaster calling is the legendary Vin Scully who was also the Dodgers normal play by play guy and probably the greatest to ever do it. Gibson's limp/run around the bases is one of the most iconic images in Major League Baseball history... Playoff baseball is magical.....magical time of year, Autumn, and so much suspense. For you Kabir it would be like taking the drama of some of the last days of the Premier League, think Aguero, think of Ilkay Guendogan, final day drama to snap titles at the death but it goes on nightly for a month!
Most of these are playoff games hence the reason for the crazy atmospheres

6:39 Honestly IMHO, that right fielder blew a world series for himself and his team by hesitating because of the wall because if he ran outright, it was very a catchable ball. He may have hit the wall a bit hard but who care, I'd even go through that wall to get that ring for my team mates. That would have the been the 3rd and final out and Texas would have won the World Series. Instead they lost this game which was game 6, then they lost game 7.
That game with Chicago was a curse breaking World Series win. Would love to see your reaction to the hype around that game. I think it had been since 1945. It was called the Billy Goat Curse

6:04 I’m not sure about that specific game other than the fact the it was in extra innings and way ended with a walk off home-run.
But for there games if you see things like wild card, NLDS, ALDS, NLCS, ALCS, or World Series, those are all playoff games and very important.
Other than that they are very athletic or rare events like the grand slam: hitting a home-run with runner on every base
Perfect game: pitching an entire game no batter on the other team ever gets on base
Or just dramatic turn around that put one team in the lead or get them back in the game.
A perfect game is when the pitcher and fielding team don't allow any runs, hits, or errors to allow a man to get on base.
Yeah, they really should give more context in videos like this. I've been watching baseball all my life, and even pausing and squinting in at the game info I still can't remember what the significance of a lot of these moments are.

A clean sweep is bringing all the people on all the bases in for four points.
When the bases are loaded and the batter hits a homerun thats called a grand slam.
They are called "runs" in baseball, not "points". And like the other person said, there is nothing called a clean sweep in baseball, that's a grand slam you described.
What?? It's called a grand slam and you score 4 runs, not points.

These are post season games that s why the crowd is so loud, a typical game is nothing like this.
Baseball is about 170 games in a season. There are 30 teams in MLB. There are two leauges(American and National) and there are 3 divisions in each league. FIRST of all during the season you woul normally get electrifed as much as the complication because 170 games are like a marathon but there are STILL dramas and stories along the journey of this marathons. in a season less than say 10 times in 170 games in average meaning that baseball in general is boring as hell and even hurting if your team do not make the post season. Therefore. If your team played well and advance to post season. The vibe is a lot different around you. Your tean goes to division play off and if your team wins the division play offs and even win the league Championship - believe me vibe is hyped up like crazy people on the streets are talking about baseball all the them and if your team played soooo well that they even win the World Series Championship. In that particular year I can say you would get electrified more than 50 times guaranteed from wining the post season ticket to WSF every play become sooo meaningful. There is saying "How can you not be romantic about baseball".

Fernandez was young and grew up poor. He just took the rich life by both hands and ended in disaster. He was acting like a mad man late at night on his boat on a bunch of alcohol and cocaine and ran his boat full speed into a rock outcrop and killed everyone on board. Theres text and things backing up that he had been acting wild all night. Probably the best pitcher in baseball when this happened. Its a travesty

I don't like the Yankees or Jeter, in fact, i dislike them both lol. But even I have to admit Jeter had a magical career. 5 World Series including one in his rookie season, great postseason numbers, his 3000th hit was a home run, for a guy not known as a power hitter, and in his last game in his home stadium, he had a walk off base hit. I think he was overrated, you can disagree, i really don't care, but the man had flair for the dramatic.

Baseball game, carnival atmosphere? What does that even mean. With each MLB team playing 162 games not every game will be a thrill a minute. But MLB paid attendance rebounded in 2023 with 70 million people attending games. People won't spend their hard earned money if it's not exciting and entertaining. BTW, MLB is a regional sport meaning a team like the LA Dodgers or NY Yankees can average 47,000 people per 81 home games but the entire country may not be interested in them, unlike NFL or even NBA teams
