There are multitudes of aircraft that can take the damage your talking about, FAA regulations requires a aircraft to be able to fly on half its engines and by backup wing i presume you mean the one that landed with only one wing, well that isnt hard when your fast enough.
@@jamessquires7015 FFA regulations require all civilan Jet aircraft to be able to fly on only one engine, this is true, however absolutely no other aircraft except the F-15 is capable of flying without one of it's wings. The only reason that F15 landed was because they didn't know they had lost their entire right wing, it's logical to bail out of a aircraft like that because it's not safe to fly, I don't see what stops something like a MiG 29 from performing a similar act like that due to its similar dual engine lifting body configuration.
@@jamessquires7015 oh yeah, no shit just about everyone with half a brain would bail out, you are missing a freaking wing! The wings on an F-15 are. Quite small compared to the size of the aircraft, they are in fact way too small to produce enough lift to keep the aircraft in the sky, this was done to make the aircraft naturally unstable and hence more twitchy and agile in a dog fight, in order to make up for the small size of the wings the engines where placed parallel to one another in high position in order to act as pseudo wing surfaces, both engines where also given what is a comparatively obscene amount of Power in order to keep the aircraft combat capable in case of an engine burnout or if an engine was Damaged or destroyed, this was done because again the aircraft would not be capable of gliding back to safety and in fact would not be able to stay in the sky with a single regularly powerd engine as it's airframe would be too heavy. As for why the mig 29 can't do it, well that simple, it's for the same reason the F/A-18 can't, rather than having a parallel high engine assembly it has a central rear engine assembly, this means that if it looses a wing the wind pressure on the remaining wing combined with the rear trust will force the aircraft into a death spiral, the wing will act as a pivot point using it's natural recistance to the wind and the trust as.....well trust forcing the wingless side of the aircraft Wich has no resistance to turn towards the point of recistance (The remaining wing) do to the rather powerful Engines on both the mig 29 and the F/A -18 this will happen almost immediately. This is something I've been developing for a few years now. I first got the idea from Ace Combat 6 where enemies would do barrel rolls to defeat missiles that are set to intercept. The idea is since the missile intercepts only, and never follows, by barrel rolling you constantly move the intercept point in a giant circle that's away from the aircraft. I live in Virginia Beach Virginia... largest naval & amphibious base on the planet and at my house on the Back Bay all I hear and see all week is super hornets doing touch & go's (carrier flight training) the southern base is just a couple miles inland from my position so they are either coming in for a touch & away or they just touched and are laying on those afterburners to make a long round about over the Atlantic to line up for the strip on the way back in... I like the way you run the canyons for those competitions, technique really comes into play.
I just got into DCS having no experience in flight sims, when there were the discounts on steam. The Ace Combat series are the only fliying games I've ever played. I picked up the A-10C and the F-15C and have just got a HOTAS and Throttle (T16k). i know literally basically nothing about anything mentioned in this video but its still in my recommended and its almost 4 am so who cares im still watchin
Gentlemen, I really love your videos and learn a lot from them. Keep them coming please. In this video I have to disagree with your assessment of The A-10C in this scenario. This scenario is what the A-10 was built for. Yes, of course if you drive it in the middle of downtown on Main St. you're gonna get greased before you get to the first intersection. The creed is Very Low and Very Slow. I was stationed at RAF Bentwaters / Woodbridge in the 80's and I watches those birds get so low to the trees that they would suck up branches, leaves and twigs into the Wing Tip Vortices and once the passed the tree line and transitioned over a farmer's field or meadow they would go so low they would suck up grass or hay into the Same Wing Tip Vortices. So I say all of that to say that I'm willing to bet that if the pilot that flew the A-10C had entered with just 10% fuel, full Chaff / Flare, full gun ammo and knew exactly where the hardware was...as long as he hugged the tree tops and grass he would have made it. Thanks Wess Kitchin Avid Fan
I am watching this while listening to Initial D and lifting weights. Gotta say this is probably the most bizarre exercise I have ever done, but I am thoroughly enjoying it.
Tbh, for me the best run was that Mirage guy who accidantly went the wrong way. Dodged more Manpads than anyone else due to that mistake after he turnes arround. Most of them without flares because he ran out of them early. Then easily chills into the SAM zone, but doesn`t shoot them down because he wasn`t in the briefing and didn`t know about the extra points xD. Bad luck and mistakes were made, but certainly not about the flying part ;)
Excellent video. You should do more like this. I like how you ended the video as well. I was quite curious to see what it would look like to see several planes go at once.
Where have we seen this before? *"Incoming from Stonehenge, all aircraft descend to lower altitude!"* Ace Combat 4 anyone?... Anyone? No.... I'll be right over here......

Too big, not maneuvrable enough. Would retain energy and sustain direct hits well, though. So the Aardvark would probably be the wild card in the bunch.
Good show, but a bit silly to give people barely enough fuel for half the distance. Would love to see an "everything you want"-run. Fuel, Weapons, Rio - Just cramp in whatever makes you happy. Should make for some thrilling Action :)
The F-14s used actually have the GE engines, which could depart the deck with the catapult, with full loadout and fuel with no afterburner, meaning LOTS of dry thrust, which equals good fuel economy, vs the earlier versions that used the Pratt and Whitney powerplants, and they also weren't prone to compressor blade separation, which the Pratts were (in)famous for. The F-15 was a good choice too. If you use the A-10 and AV-8B Harrier II+: Don't hard jink the Harrier, but go low and full balls to the wall. A-10, go low and terrain mask at radar and SAM sights. In fact, anything that goes by RADAR or LOS (line of sight) going low and behind will force the farthest one to shoot the one nearest you, creating friendly fire. SAMs may use heat seekers or radar so terrain masking is easier in a non afterburning plane. You're not going so fast that you're not seeing a tree pop up out of nowhere. And the A-10 is the most durable of the bunch, but still, good job, all of you. And the SU-27 was an interesting choice, despite it being a flying hybrid of brick and tank 😂😂
Mate, this is great. More challenges please!

That corkscrew gun evade works amazing, I need to practice that. This was really fun, great video guys. The milsim campaigns are cool, but it's good to see the silly boys in action letting some steam off.
Once you get really good you can do it going around corners etc.
Hey that zombie plane gets full points! Doesn't matter if he got shot up, and lost half his wing, that looks like winning! He was totally going to run your gauntlet and survive, pity if the enemy didn't consider him a threat!
"Is there a time limit" - Well, there's a fuel limit. Basically the same thing
"F18 all technology and no heart" the perfectly analogy, it describes the F18 Hornet perfectly.
56:20 this is a man of culture right there
yes
As a spectator, I really enjoyed this. Great graphics.
this pops up in my recommended, stayed and watched. You all earned a sub. I was infantry, always appreciate a flyboy carrying CAS load.
Subbed because of this. Brilliant commentary. Had no clue this would be as entertaining as it was.
We need a repeat of this competition with any combat jet.
Gotta say, I had never watched anything about DCS before, but this video alone made me fall in love with your group. Stay awesome you legends.
"it's just too big boys." that's what Cap said. lol
Very good content. Skills competition makes it very engaging. You guys are on to something.
I don't know how I found this channel, and I don't play this game, but this is quite entertaining. Subscribed.
might wanna add some ammo trucks for those missile units :) would allow them to rearm between runs
Harder than it looks, but this kind of evasion training/competition is just the thing to shake the dust out of the ailerons. Helluva good time!
I just got into DCS having no experience in flight sims, when there were the discounts on steam. The Ace Combat series are the only fliying games I've ever played. I picked up the A-10C and the F-15C and have just got a HOTAS and Throttle (T16k). I was so happy when the A-10 had a go as I spent most of yesterday watching the Grim Reapers' tutorial series and practicing take-off and landing. now to learn how to use bombs and mavericks then hit the enemy within campaign.
camaraderie at its best. Great flying to all involved. SALUTE!
i know literally basically nothing about anything mentioned in this video but its still in my recommended and its almost 4 am so who cares im still watchin
Cap would it be possible for you to upload this mission to the discord would be really fun to try with friends
affirm
Am i the only one who played "danger zone" in the background when the f14 showed up ?
i played mighty wings instead with the tomcats ;)

What a great day at monte carlo, tanak with his f18, neuville dominated the skies and the alley with his mig 21, an edition for the history
This would be a good 'Ozzy Man Reviews: Destination Fucked" video.
True dat
Too bad there aren't any sheilas in here.
19:39 Anybody else thought that was Arnold Schwarzenegger talking? Lol!
Bad luck and mistakes were made, but certainly not about the flying part ;)
hour and a half long video....1130 at night....i got time...love it.wish i could run the gauntlet :(
Excellent video. You should do more like this. I like how you ended the video as well. I was quite curious to see what it would look like to see several planes go at once.
Don't even play flight sims (very often, anyway) this is very exciting! You've got an esport here, bois!
10% fuel seemed a bit harsh, fun video though
Great Competition! Always enjoy your commentary!
Where have we seen this before?
*"Incoming from Stonehenge, all aircraft descend to lower altitude!"*
Ace Combat 4 anyone?... Anyone? No....
I'll be right over here......
48:13 cool sonic booms
59:47 cool MANPAD hit
"I think I'm going to go low"
You have no idea how little that narrows it down
17:17 pause video, on another tab play superman theme (original version). Play both at the same time and enjoy. Mig 21 Superior Soviet technology. Doesnt need wings to fly. it is lighter that way
Was really rooting for the Tomcat!
Cap calls F-14 a "yacht", calls Flanker "giant-bodied"
F-15 laughs awkwardly, whispers "I'm not fat..." to itself
lols
21:47 Ejects right into a tree!
Just stumbled upon your vid - great stuff.
Curious how an F111 may have done?
I think pretty well.
Absolutely, or even the A4 Skyhawk?
Too big, not maneuvrable enough. Would retain energy and sustain direct hits well, though. So the Aardvark would probably be the wild card in the bunch.
Would have been cool to see a focke wulf. Just beyblading through
@@grimreapers how bout an F-16
The French furry dart was the first to make it to the SA 20’s lol
20:36 This guy must be Maverick
This is like those ninja competitions with the insane obstacle courses
What an entertaining clip. I applaud all who took part to create this, simply magnificent to watch.
I haven't played one minute of DCS, but this was HIGHLY entertaining to watch!
The tomcat may not have made it, but I’m happy to report that both pilot and weapons systems operator safely ejected and evaded enemy capture!
I own the sim. I purchased P-51D when it came out. Watch these all the time. But this I think would be thrilling.
Great fun had by all, I so LOL'd and was thinking of some Geppards Pie. 😜
This prep for some Wild Weasel missions & could you try it in 60's era air frame's please?
I'd take an F-14 through so that even if I get shot down, I'll get shot down with style.
Good show, but a bit silly to give people barely enough fuel for half the distance. Would love to see an "everything you want"-run. Fuel, Weapons, Rio - Just cramp in whatever makes you happy. Should make for some thrilling Action :)
4th round I managed to finish the race (without touching any last SAM element), 5th I could touch 2 elements.
Using the F-5E... of course
The f-16 with towed decoys would've been amazing
this is basically The Valley of Kings

fucking love it.
This is more exciting than watching sports.
Then imagine this IRL.
Grim Reapers: doing "Top Gun: Maverick" challenge mission before it was cool ;)
And the SU-27 was an interesting choice, despite it being a flying hybrid of brick and tank 😂😂
this is absolutely AMAZING!
would have loved to see a Tornado here :)
That was such a lot of fun to watch! Thanks Reapers!
Awesome guys!! I'm really digging these vids. Guess I might need to build me a gaming pc and get involved.... 😁😁
This takes me back to the old air combat game the mission in the canyon But actually realistic.
