I've been growing a couple of avocados in the SF Bay Area for almost 5 years now and what an up and down ride it's been. I love to sit in and listen to "old-timers" with decades of time growing. In the end, I feel like it's about as much art, as it is science. That's why there is no substitute for experience in growing.

Amazing interview! I’d love to know more about backyard avocados. What is the avocado version of the Pickering mango? Can the avocado be maintained in a container?
in the last 7-8 years no insecticide has been applied in my grove. now my grove is stabilized and beneficial insects are in balance. there are localized outbreaks but the work themselves out without intervention. Also now Im down to one fungicide aplication a year. For biologicals I apply bacillus subtilis Serenade and local Trichodermas that I grow myselt
Thank you so much very informative! I live in California. I have a beautiful avocado tree of course I Grew From a pit. I started out with four in one pot I think two probably died and I might have two together it's kind of hard to tell to tell because it could be one tree that branched out into a v-shape I know it probably won't grow any fruit keywords "probably." But I have faith well let's put it this way if it doesn't bear fruit it's okay! Because I created life! It gives my balcony that has full sun wonderful shade and beauty as i sit to enjoy my coffee and that's all that matters to me, and the oxygen it is blessing our earth! And with that i am truly happy. One day may i be blessed with my own home to plant my tree into the ground, to continue to give me shade. I give it its yearly trim feed it coffee grounds and egg shells to keep the grubs away. Its almost summer and i see my tree is blooming new lushes green leaves! Now i have another story for you about a tree i call miracle but that story is for another time. Please respond to my story i love to hear from you. Buddy Love Momma Lucy 💖

Thank you for sharing the avocado tree.
I didn't hear what Carlos uses for a biologic on his trees. Can you let us know? Also, does he use it preemptively or only when he sees an issue?
