This was my favorite of your videos. I live near Charleston and can’t wait to go back to the cemetery and try to notice these wonderful tidbits you have shared. I want to learn more about headstones.

Alta I hope to keep doing more of these. My book is available for $19.99 and it is used by some your guides in the city. Here is a link. I will sign each copy you but from this link! pumpkintown-108720.square.site/product/book-a-brief-treatise-on-tomb-and-grave-stones-by-david-gillespie/40?cs=true&cst=custom

I am impressed. I am lookin at marble and granite headstone my way , and they are only bout 100yrs. Yet the writing is shallow engaved, and very hard to read. But back then, as now, carvin twice as deep will be like a second customer and ya pay double the price. Good video.

Believe it or not shallow carving on slate is just as good as deep carving on marble! That is the whole premise of my book, “A Brief Treatise on Tomb and Grave Stones of the 18th century” by David Gillespie link here

A simple scratches line from a stone from the 1730s is still present where letters in marble from the 1860s an inch deep are unreadable

4:17 No better source than Scripture. Jesus Christ was the first of the dead to enter the heavenly realm (John 20 : 17) followed by those saints who rose just after He died (Matt 27 : 52). After Jesus Christ arose, those saints were the first harvest ascending into Heaven just as barley is the first crop in Spring. (Jesus ascended again Acts 1 : 9) The gravestone of Mr. Stanyarne depicts produce from an Autumn harvest which is the final harvest when the graves are opened for the final Day. Just as promised, Abraham will not be able to count his descendants any easier than we can count the number of grain kernels harvested in a growing season.
