fun fact, swan (maknae, the billie eilish-esque voice in memeM) wrote ponzoña for a trainee evaluation and the company loved it so much, they chose it as their debut song. purki is fairly new to me, sweet juice drew me in (i’m still obsessed atp) and they recently went on tour and came to my city (which no kpop group does) and i decided to go lol, but if i’m not mistaken, each member participates in songwriting, producing, and even choreographies. yuki is also known to write all of her raps.

Swan chirping "Fire!" at that one moment in Zombie is cosmically adorable
On “mem”: 맴 “maem” is onomatopoeia for spinning, and is typically found inside the verb 맴돌다 “maemdolda”, “to spin, orbit, hover”. Specifically, the phrase 머릿숙에 맴돌다 “meorissoge maemdolda” means liters “to spin inside the head”, but in English we’d say “linger in our mind” or “keep thinking about”. This exact phase, just without the last bit 돌다 “dolda” is in the lyrics; literally translated, might be something like “in your mind whirl whirl whirl”. It goes well with the imagery of huge mirrors spinning above them, which you find at the end of the video all happens inside a head sculpture.
Oh also: Ireh is “ee-reh”. Confusingly, Rolling Quartz has an Iree, who is “eye-ree”.
Yuqi is a Mandarin Chinese name that she pronounces in the Korean way (as Ugi “oogie”) outside of Mandarin. Yuki is a Japanese name pronounced in the exact way you think it should be; don’t get confused by Yuqi lol
For whatever reason I’ve been talking about Yuki at random KPop shows and somebody invariably butts in and tries to correct my pronunciation as Yuqi and I have to explain I am talking about Purple Kiss. Not sure why that keeps happening.
And if you ever wonder why Yuqi uses the Korean pronunciation when the Chinese pronunciation works fine in Korean…pop it into google translate
Ponzona is probably one of the best debut ever. Btw not many people appreciate MMM and hated this song after came out. I’m so glad you like this song!
You mean I get Bibi and Purple Kiss in the same day!!! What did I do to deserve such a treat!!!! PK are so talented and criminally underrated. All of their songs are bops. And their intro songs they do for each ep are always the best! THE CHOREO!!!!!
That was fun. I'm glad you like Purple Kiss. Like every group under RBW they feature top tier vocals, they're creatively involved with songwriting and choreo, and like every group under RBW their level of success falls far short of their talent level and the quality of their music so they tend to fly under the radar.
Btw, the guy at the end of the Zombie MV is bassist/rapper Giuk of Onewe. It's always cool when RBW artists collab or make cameos in each others' MVs. Purple Kiss appeared as dancers in the MV for Onewe's End of Spring (along with Oneus and AleXa).
Next time I suggest checking out PK's pre-debut songs My Heart Skip a Beat and Can We Talk Again. Main singer Swan was on hiatus for MHSAB due to a health issue but she more than made up for it on CWTA. Swan is one of if not the best 4th gen female singer and it's hard to believe she's only 20 yo. For a good time watch her solo appearance on Lee Mujin Service.
The quality of rbw groups made me want to stan the company but i just hate them and their management so much, they did vromance dirty, have been doing mamamoo dirty ever since 2021 and also has managed scandals pretty bad SIGH
@@mrclean2751I’ve been a Moomoo for a good five, six years now and I still don’t understand why people say RBW have done MMM dirty? Like, yeah the eng subs situation isn’t amazing but as far as I can tell thats basically the only complaint. They did them dirtier in the early years with typical abusive kpop company stuff, but if its about MMM losing their prominence that mostly comes down to luck (covid took their knees out right when they needed to capitalise on HIP, then the next gen came and changed the industry dynamic).

Purple Kiss' Geekyland remains one of the most underrated EPs in k-pop
Each of the Purple Kiss members has a Debut Trailer, which is a 1-2min song showing different concepts. They also have a pre-debut track “My Heart Skip A Beat” which rocks
I love Purple Kiss so much!!! They are easily one of my favorite girl groups! I love how uniquely themselves they are and the gorgeous combination of voices. Their production is always exactly my style. Their song Nerdy was my most played song of 2022. Also highly recommend just all of their b-sides!
Purple Kiss is one of the best girl groups out there right now, they're super talented. I'm still mad sweet juice didn't get them their first win. their discography is immaculate.
‘Can We Talk Again’, ‘Cast Pearls Before Swine’ and ‘Pretty Psycho’ are my next recommendations for you to check out from the lovely ladies of PK!
As many others have said, their B-sides are excellent and just as good quality, if not better, than their title tracks.

Yes!!! Purple Kiss my girls!! They are my favorite girl group! I've been waiting for you to get into them so I was super excited to get this notification!!! This group for me has one of the best gg discographies not a single skip! My absolute favorite PK song is MemeM and Chaein(my bias), Swan and Goeun are 3 of my favorite female vocalist!

There is also a playlist on their channel called PURPLEMANCE. They have some fantastic covers. I personally can't get enough of Swan's James Bond OST Mashup, and Ireh & Chaein's Break Up With Your Girlfriend. But everything on there is 100% fantastic.

Purple kiss letss go! A fav girlgroup for sure: strong and unique vocals, PERFORMERS, great rapline and they write, produce and even choreograph a lot of their songs QUEENSS. Dosie was the one you liked, shes very charismatic and its true their concepts and visuals are so fascinating. "Can we talk again", "my heart skip a beat"(both released predebut), "pretty psycho" perf video, "nerdy" and "7heaven" are def ones i would recommend next.

If you enjoyed their style, then you might also be into Pixy. They also have a darker, girl crush aesthetic that's pretty badass with great visuals and choreography.

Sweet juice is such a masterpiece. The production, the vocals, the choreo, the visuals…. It’s all so mesmerizing. Just the little snippets of choreo here are amazing to watch, but I really recommend watching the dance practice. It’s one of my favorite choreos in all the K-pop I’ve seen (which to be fair isn’t too much by this point but still 😂).
They wrote the song and album as a way to comfort their fans during covid, which is why the album is called Cabin Fever. Each member in the video has their own separate scary experience in the hotel (kinda like we all had in lockdown) and each member’s scene is based on a popular horror film. I don’t know all the films, but there’s references to The Shining, Poltergeist, and The Orphan. The word Rilas is actually a Shining reference, mimicking how they wrote Redrum (if you haven’t seen it, it’s murder backwards) on the wall. So the word is actually Salir, which is Spanish for leave or get out. In the end they all get lured into room 315 ( their debut date) where Goeun started the video. Basically because they didn’t leave when they had a chance they got stuck in the hotel, and no matter where they ran the hotel brought them to that frozen room.

MY GIRLS!!!! this is so exciting! i literally love purki so much. i'm so glad you enjoyed them honestly they are so fucking talented and deserve all the love and praise and support. they came out the gate swinging and have kept impressing and i love how this shows they can excel at like any concept. i love my spooky quirky girlies!! their main vocal line is probably one of my favs in kpop tbh. and the girls have been involved in writing, composing, choreo since pre-debut like they're just amazing. chaein is my bias and dosie is my wrecker - the blonde bob who was coming for your throat in ponzona 🤭 but they're all fantastic!
also yes sweet juice is incredible; one of my top songs of last year! the melodies, the vocals, the rap, the production!! the strings and piano and the lil popping bubble sounds ugh so good!

Their vocals, songs, MVs and concepts are amazing. They have a bunch of covers too. I wished for a long time for their intro songs to become full songs. Gladly, Pretty Psycho released. Also, one of their pre-debut trailer songs /Can’t stop dreaming/ became a full version. Their B-side songs are masterpieces too.

There is so much nice content of them even though they are quite newish they already have a lot of albums and in my case in every album a b-side was my favourite song. Personally there are no skips for me in their discography besides "skip skip" (hehe bad joke).
Their albums most of the time also have Intros (short performance videos < 1 minute) which are absolutely great, I would highly recommend watching those at some point. Also their (live) vocal perfomances are great so if you are done watching through their official discography and want more you would probably enjoy watching those. (For example Swan the maknaes perfomance on lee Mujin Service (especially her Halo cover) is so incredibley good that i have to recommend this one, too few people react to that one, however it is quiet long.
Well anyways I dont think there is a wrong way to discover Purple Kiss, so go ahead at your own pace and enjoy.

Take in how you JUST missed them on their US tour. (Assuming you live in the US that is.) All the members are such Aces, Purple Kiss is truly an RBW group. They tick and exceed ALL the boxes. Its mind boggling how underrated they are in the 4th gen scene.

Glad you enjoyed PurKi! These ladies are also very involved with their music. Each member has participated at some point in the lyrics of a song. Chaein and Yuki have been the most involved as Yuki has written many of her own raps and Chaein has composed, written lyrics and has choreography contributions. Also, if you love drama you have to watch their intros for each mini album. They are the queens of intros.

Most of their albums have an Intro performance video that is paired with the Title tracks, which are amazing. All thier B-sides are no skip songs (in my opinion), my favorite being SuMMer RaiN. They also have some lore films with Giuk (CYA) of ONEWE, basicly they are quirky witches. One of my favorite groups but unfortunately they are still underrated.
EL7Z UP (the 7 is silent, stylized to be double Z, name is Puzzle backwards) They are a temporary group formed from Queendom: Puzzle with all the members still promoting with their original groups as well.

If you decide to do more Purple Kiss content: They did a special Halloween remix of Zombie that's fantastic. They're also phenomenal dancers and did a dance cover of BTS' Danger, and a relay dance cover of EXO's Overdose that are worth seeing. Also try their song Seven Heaven for a COMPLETELY different vibe. And their pre-debut song My Heart SKip A Beat, also a completely different vibe.
Fun fact: Pre-debut Purple Kiss danced for ONEWE's End of Spring MV along with ONEUS. You should check out MAMAMOO's juniors. All of them are great.

EL7ZUP is pronounced Elle-zup. It’s puzzle backwards :( Yuki (pronounced like it looks) is still active in Purple Kiss though had to miss some things, which is true of all the EL7ZUP members since the premise of the show was creating a group from debuted idols.
Sweet Juice was high on my list of favorite songs last year. The way the instrumental + vocals are blended tickles my brain in the best way.

I've been following purple kiss ever since their debut even tho i can't call myself a plory but ofc a huge fan and let me tell you they never miss their b-sides are top tier they have like 5 mini albums now and every one is a no skip SO GOOD you should definitely check it out once

Not a dig or trying to be rude, but I recommend learning the Hangul (Korean alphabet) it's actually really easy and will be very helpful in helping you pronounce stuff. You were close with the names but Dosie is pronounced doe-she, Ireh is ee-reh, Yuki is you-key (the 'yu' in Yugi is pronounced differently in Chinese).
do give their B sides a try...i am quite certain u will like most of it.
