    Hey, Scotty, you forgot to add that black screens have a tiny extra part that the white screens don't. A little filter that goes in front of the ambient light sensor to filter the light through the black glass. Without it the phone screen won't turn off when you put the screen up to your ear. It's a tiny, fiddly part, but it's pretty important. Great video, by the way.

    Look up silicon travel mats for hair straighteners/curlers instead of cellphone repair mats and you will find them for $3 instead of $20+

    • @Spartacusse
      @Spartacusse 6 лет назад

      But probably they won't be anti-static. Given the fact that silicon normally can withstand up to 300ºc that alone would be enough to lay down something hot, but not really the best thing for electronics.

    • @pr0xZen
      @pr0xZen 6 лет назад

      @@Spartacusse Last time I checked, it wouldn't melt until 1414 degrees C / 2577.2 F. Being a semiconductor, I'm sure there is some way of making it suitably antistatic.

    • @Spartacusse
      @Spartacusse 6 лет назад +1

      +pr0xZen
      Sure, I meant given the fact that silicone can (easily) withstand 300ºc, it's a good choice of material for a mat intended to put hot stuff over it. Of course there is ways of making it antistatic, that's my point exactly, the original comment said "travel mats" can be found for $3 while "cellphone repair mat" are around $20, I simply pointed out that, given the fact that "travel mat" does not need to be antistatic, it probably isn't, and that feature, may account for most, if not all of the price difference.

    • @onistgaming5177

      The cheap ones bubble up when you heat them up too. It probably won't melt but it'll push everything around and knock stuff over while you're trying to heat the board.

    Tips and tricks for your iPhone assembly, from a cell repair tech.
    1) on the screen assembly , touch ID sensor, backplate first before the other plates , and when you have the bottom half done , the camera assembly is easier to focus on and prefold and install starting from speaker contacts, then mic then sensors fold back camera, install speaker , fold camera into place. Hold camera (everything else is held into place by adhesion or friction) and slip bracket into place.
    2) work on the phone sideways with the screen opening to the top with the same idea that you had for holding it in place. That way the screen is out of your way and you have room for your hand ,
    3) the camera flex. Start with holding the screen with your left hand and click the flex into place with your right. Once the flex is secure , pull the screen down towards the charge port the screen will be far enough out of the way and will have pulled the flex downward out of the way( be careful as to not rip the flex), set bracket into place and screw down , after that is finished then install LCD /touch flexes and then finish as normal ( with the phone sideways this is much easier )
    Love the videos and you have genius ideas

      Ivan Hernandez you can't even install an Android skin onto iOS. You'd have to actually put the insides of an Android into an iPhone.

    Could you make a video about planned obsolescence? Like see if you can find parts that are specifically designed to only work for a certain period of time ?!? That would be really interesting.

      David Lewis but it isnt a problem with the OS im pretty sure the parts are just built differently you cant expect 5 different competing companys stick to the same tech

    For me I'm just tryna pimp out my old iPhone 6 Plus. Replace the housing which means tearing down my whole phone so this channel has really helped me get to know what that takes. I also wonder if I could swap in any parts from other phones. Maybe even make it full screen somehow. No notch or bezels.

    I was in Shenzhen for nearly 4 weeks, stayed in Longhua. I was at the electronics market, three, sometimes four times a week. If you wanted to take on the task of building an iPhone there, it would cost MAYBE $60 (¥420)! The motherboard is 90%of it. The housing¥20 (that's $2.25 U.S.). The other components are fractions of an ¥1 (less than $0.02). But keep in mind, a used 128gb iPhone 6 there was just over $100.

    I've actually used food grade silicone mats. They come in many different sizes & are very cheap in price. Especially here in States. They are actually made of same material as repair mats or solder mats, as I have both. Do microsoldering, soldering, PC repair, phone repair, etc etc etc AND wanted to test the mats out. Food ones work just as well, but they have no compartments or any cool little features...but for the price, if on budget...works great.
    Love the channel & vids, hoping for lots more & some more factory tours too please.
    Cheers, A

    Thanks man this really helped because I'm restoring a 2017 iPhone SE my 16 year old brother is going to buy it off me once I can get it working because for some odd reason the iPhone SE screen only is going to the apple logo to power on it doesn't fully turn on to the lock screen and I need to factory reset I think but I'll have to go bring it to a professional to get my iPhone SE factory reseted
