As someone whom carves spoons on the regular, having the ability to watch other carvers go through thier methodology is truly amazing to watch. Knife grips will always be very similar but the methodology changes with each carver, right or wrong, and it is a pleasure to watch. Thanks for sharing your amazing work with the rest of us out here Sean! Much appreciated for your time, carving, recording, editing and posting for all of us out here. Cheers man!
Thanks for saying so! The last portion was a bit of a letdown for me personally. I couldn’t manage to keep the spoon in frame the whole time. Live and learn though. The next one’ll be better🙂
Its so amazing to watch a professional work Shawn! 👏 I usually have so many facets. But I havent used a green blank yet . I will buy some from you I promise. Have you ever tried carving a coffee spoon ? Anyways awesome video as always Shawn. Take care and stay safe my friend!
Hey, thanks Troy! I’ve carved lots of coffee scoops (not sure if that’s what you’re asking or not). And as far as blanks go, shoot me a message whenever you’re ready and I’ll hook you up🙂
Question for you sir.i have been carving black walnut spoons and have had people tell me you can't eat or cook with them because of the chemical make up.should I keep carving them or change wood.thank you.
Hello! There is absolutely nothing wrong with Black Walnut for food contact nor is there one for eating directly from it. The likelihood of an allergic reaction is almost zero since people with “tree nut allergies” are allergic the protein in the nut itself- not the wood. Hope this helps!
Unfortunately once I realized a lot of the hook knife work was out of frame, I couldn’t just re-carve the same bowl a second time. I decided to upload the video anyways in the hopes that, while not perfect, it will be able to help someone
I think you’ve miss understood my comment, I wasn’t complaining or moaning, I just made the comment about the cap in the way in case you’d not noticed, I was actually enjoying the video.
Hi Shawn, it's a great joy to have you back on RUclips. I'm a beginner in spoon carving, so yes of course I'd be interested in a breakdown of your process. Every small video clip can show me some detail, I've missed so far. Or can put a different angle on a technique, a design or a strategy. Those bigger videos, where you see everything in context, shine a much brighter light on things though. I'd appreciate it very much. Cheers, jochen
I enjoyed how you defined the steps of the process in this video. Thanks!
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching!
you did a great job of showing Sean ..Thank you for sharing your work
Thanks to you as well for watching, Gene!

Nice work - but the hat gets in the way of the camera a bit at the end :)

No worries Ken. I got a couple comments on Facebook that I just deleted because they were purely negative, hence the post.
Awesome video as always!!!! What a super nice shop you have!!!!
Thank you Ron! It’s still a bit of a work in progress but mostly where I want it to be.

Great video Sean.
Thanks Ron!

I enjoyed this video. Thanks for taking the time to share!
You’re so welcome! Thanks for watching, Ann! It’s always worth the stress for those who support my work as much as you do💚
Encore une très bonne vidéo ! Du beau matériel, de la technique et un nouvel atelier
Thank you so much for watching! I’m enjoying the new space so far!😊
Who makes that hook knife?
A good friend of mine, Andy Klindt
Wow, it looks amazing!
Andy designed this hook for me- The Huron Hook, he calls it- and it suits my carving style absolutely perfectly.
