One way to stop cats jumping the fence is to put a fence roller on it, so a pole with a tube outside of it. When paws touch the tube it spins so they can't get traction. The tricky part would be figuring out how to attach it to the fence without drilling into it, but cable ties my help. You could also use a tie out and harness for him to chill outside with you. The plants are looking lovely in your new place!

I think you’ve done an excellent job with your initial set up of your plants. I love the way the plants looked hooked on the fence! Your indoor and outdoor plants and space will continue to adjust until you have “settled” mentally. Minimizing the anxiety and stress with what is “suppose to be done” is a must. Allow yourself the time and space to appreciate the changes and enjoy the challenges to bring out your creativity and inner strength. “Go with the flow!” ❤

Get Brad a harness and lease! He might need some time to get used to it but its a great way to take him out and keep him contained while you supervise. If he gets really comfortable with the harness you could even take him on walks! I have plenty of friends with lease trained cats that love going on walks.

You have done ALOT in a short time!!! Everything looks great already. For AJ could you make a outdoor enclosure similar to a dog run? You could have it connected through an open window without damaging the apartment. You can always connect plants around the enclosure so it isn't a eyesore.

Congratulations on the new apartment and the RUclips award!! Well deserved!! ❤ I’ve just gotten into exotic plants this last year, so next move we make I’ll be checking window orientations and the amount of brightness will be the dealbreaker! I’m relying on grow lights right now. All south facing windows, only one west but it’s covered by trees. I hope you love your new space!! Oh, my cat too tells me when it’s 4 pm, dinner time lol 😂 I’d never seen a Cuprea before finding one at our nursery, it’s INCREDIBLE. So pretty, the shine from red, blue, purple, green etc, I’m shook
I’d love for our cat to go outside too, but when we got her we were living in a mountainous area, lots of predators, now, next to a big highway. So no, she doesn’t go out, as much as she wants too, she has to stay in

25:52 maybe you could try adding some sphagnum moss to the aroid mix in the grow pole? Maybe you could lay it down the back towards the plastic part so the roots can get through the chunky part and get moisture from the moss?

My adansonii went fully white too (and btw, the light makes absolutely no difference at all, you're 100% right) and weird thing is, it started to grow some chlorophyll with I think the 4th fully white leaf. It went kind of mint-ish all of a sudden and then every leaf came out fully white and turned minty within 2-4 weeks.

I find with all my aroid poles filled with either fern fibre, aroid mix or coco chip don't need to stay constantly moist. They can dry out for short periods of time and the roots seem to be perfectly fine. I water mine about once a week - 1.5 weeks and they do dry out completely in between. Fernfibre is definitely the best in poles in my experience, it does hold moisture then longest and can dry out for longer periods of time and the roots still thrive in it. oh and it doesn't seem to become hydrophobic either! :)

So, you don't have freeze in the winter if you can grow tropical plants outside? I noticed you don't have hanging plants on your windows. I think few hanging pots can make the place less sterile. Nice place you've got. Outdoor space is definitely big plus. Space for tomatoes 🍅 Should definitely try some tomatoes😉 If there is no real winter you can have huge tomato vines. They are tropical plants too 🙂 and very esthetically pleasing and smell good. Also flowers. Just some ideas 🙂

As someone with a painfully small house, I'm enjoying seeing your smaller plants! I've been actively moving on a lot of my large vines because they are unsustainable, and focusing on things that have tiny leaves or grow into a small bush rather than vine. Now it's much easier to see the larger, statement plants that I've decided to keep. I'm definitely stealing the idea of putting all my Alocasia together in a tub. I've just turned their heat pad on for autumn/winter so that will make it easy to keep them on it all together :)

The only thing I have found that makes a difference with variegation is temperature. And this was specific to my epipremnums. The higher the temps they are in, the better the variegation. No other variegated plants I have seem to be affected by any conditions, light, humidity, feed, etc.

Thanks for showing us the new place! Those outdoor areas look like a godsend.
    Good
Luck with getting it settled. I wish we could do outdoors like that over here in the UK.
On the moss pole experiments - i have been using your methods for about 3/4 of a year now (thankyou! Im having a ball!) - but the good new zealand moss over here is Really expensive. But its better than the live stuff, so i isw it anyway. Recently i have stated mixing it 50/50 with coco chunks - and its working well - stays moist as long as my just moss poles. And the moss meshes it all together so it doesn’t fall out of the grid - even in non plastic backed poles. And the moss stops the water going straight through the pole at watering time.
The idea came from your experiments .. so thanks again!
Good luck in that new apartment! Is it further away from AJs?

    Love your videos!
You can add some moss or tree fern fibre in the poles with the coco chips or aroid mix in it and it helps keep it moist for longer. It helps retain moisture and allows it to dry evenly. It also helps to really soak the coco chips for a few days before using them, so you don't need to water them every as it takes longer to dry out. Also, in south facing windows, a large garden mirror can help direct some light towards those windows to give them a bit more light.
You are going to see terrific growths with the plants outside! Hopefully it doesn't get too cold or get frost in winter where you are. I put a monstera outside after it nearly died with thrips inside and it grew like a weed outside.

They may be coming inside temporarily during wintertime. It’ll be interesting to follow your adjustments as you get used to your new location 😊

Look into making your cat a "catio" you build them an enclosure that is up against a window ,you open the window and the cat goes outside in the protected space.. there's usually a cat tree or 2 in the catio . It will fix his need to get outside

Glad your new apartment is working out! I know you are not a meter person, but I found it interesting and useful information. I’m basically in similar situation as you, with my main living area having North and West facing windows. I couldn’t figure out why some plants were not thriving in what I thought was very bright, indirect light. Again, similar to your back wall that the sun touches for a few hours. Psych! The par meter actually showed the PPFD was incredibly low. Moving just 1-2 feet over doubled the light, but that didn’t work for me. I’m an aesthetic guy myself, so it needs to look good and be able to grow good match. Meters don’t run me, but the information is helpful. I can use my real life results and compare them with “the charts”. Growing is an art, not an absolute hobby. I appreciate your information and you’ve opened up my journey tremendously.

Fully understand where you are coming from, it’s probably a good tool to use for oneself but I don’t want to talk about it online because some might take one of my meter readings (on a dark cloudy day in winter) and take it out of context and wonder why it doesn’t work for them … to me it’s all about letting the plant tell the story :)

Thank you for sharing. I had to resist skipping to see if there was an outdoor part. I use coco chips with a bit of perlite for Hoya and experimenting with other aroids (in the pot). I can’t top water only, eventually I have to bottom water/soak until all the chips sponge up the water. Chips have great wicking ability with a reservoir. I do love the results I get with chip only or chip mixes. Not sure how to engineer a successful pole. If there’s a way I’m sure you will figure it out! Your space is such an oasis!

Bottom watering just isn’t really an option for poles :/ ideally i’d spray it frequently to keep the coco chips moist but that is a lot of work :P thanks :)

Hi, congrats on your move. I'm writing in regard to the mother grow lights: I know you have a relationship w the company, so I'm hoping you relay this message: I noticed your issue w the lamp's height. I like the Mother Lights and see they paid much attention to design and sustainability. Yet, I haven't bought them due to the height issue. If they had an adjustable height base, they would be perfect. I wouldn't mind paying the extra cost of this feature. But for the price of these lights, to additionally have to buy a table that increases the space the lights occupy, defeats the purpose and hinders the aesthetic intention of the Mother lamp.
Once more, I congratulate you on your new home. Moves are never easy, and you seem to have done it excellently.
