The modern day cork hat is just a rough almost string net mesh 1cm opening that hang down over your wide brimmed hat about 10-15cm but does NOT go to you neck. I bought the whole family them when camping in Busselton WA. We counted 35 flys sitting on my face over the wrap around glasses. It works so well that you can eat beneath it. It’s elasticed around the head so you can roll it up and place it over the head band when not in use and you pull it down to use it. And that is why you don’t see the cork hats any more! If you have been to outback in Australia you know some areas are dry most of the time but if you go there in the wrong time when there's a rain storm, suddenly the roads that were dried and just a road that you can drive through become flooded and become a river. So you have to watch out after rain storms.
