- Analysis of a member subjected to axial load is discussed in detail. The method to calculate the amount stress experienced by different materials under the action of the external load is explained.
This is so clear, thank you so much!
A Compound bar having steel rod of dia. 35 mm and solid copper
rod of dia. 20mm and aluminum square rod of 10 mm is as shown in
following figure. Find change in length of bar. Take modulus of
elasticity Es = 210 kN/mm2
, Ec = 110 GPa and Eal = 70GPa.
Thank you very much
Thanks sir. Very helpful vedio.
Thanks Sir...!

could you please tell me from which book the given problem is??
@@HarshaVardhan-yr1bm Strength of material by Ferdinand L. Singer
Sir why 5P is taken at A..to satisfy equilibrium sir..kindly explain
Yes. To satisfy the equilibrium condition. Summation of forces along direction x should be zero. The first part near to the support will be compressed by the active force of 5P and reactive force 5P offered by the support.
The procedure is good but why do you use the given stresses in MPa instead of Pa and again, the area is given in mm², isn't it should be changed to m² when calculating the value of Force in Newtons.
Can you please help?
MPa is equivalent to 10^6 Pa or N/mm^2. There is a common practice of expressing stress in material and strength of material in MPa. Here area is in mm^2 and Strength of material is given in MPa, so directly we can get the Force in N, which can be changed to any unit system as per the need.
Good observation and will be helpful for others who may view such solution procedures. Thank You
