I've been painting three years & I STILL rely on Emma to break down the "mathematical" properties of color mixing. I feel like I will never ever get this & I'm a complete color idiot! Thank God you have tackled 2 of my scariest topics: color achievement & people! (your face positioning tutorial with the orange ball was nothing short of genius). Thank you for doing the hard work for dummies like me!
Thank you so much for your videos. If I had found them earlier, it would have saved me a lot of time, money and frustration. It is so much fun to follow you.
Thank you! This series is going to be perfect for me! I started out with a 48 color pan, and I think that was a mistake because I didn’t learn to mix organically. Now, I have gone back a step, bought 10 tubes, and I am actually going to learn to mix.
Great!! Thank you! Really learning the mixing of so many colors from you, love these basics because they are so important. You are a wonderful teacher👏👍🥰
Love this series! I was overwhelmed with choosing which colors to buy & learned that I only need to get 8 different colors to make many more! Thanks, Emma!
My son bought me a Windsor & Newton Cotman set from Amazon so it included 40 different colors. If you look at Emma's link below her video, she lists 8 essential colors. I would start with those. I will be using that list when I need to refill my pans. Happy painting!😊
Oh Emma, do I ever need this series. Yesterday I was watching a video, and the artist mixed 2 colors to get the one she needed and I have played around with making black, gray, flesh tones, & shades of green. But not the colors she used. I wondered, WHERE DO I GO TO LEARN ABOUT THIS???? Now I know, you Emma, you. You have got our backs & I am so thankful & grateful for you.
Successful color mixing is such a stumbling block for so many of us. Thank you a million times for your tutorials! Looking forward to all of the upcoming!
Thanks so much! I love both your instructional and tutorial videos. I’ve learned so much from you. Such talent you have. Also a beautiful son. All the best to you....
Thanks for this video. It’s easy to get caught up in purchasing more (expensive!) tubes of paint to get a variety. Then you have too many colors and think you need to purchase a new (expensive!) pallet to hold them all! Thanks especially for showing the combinations for green.
So clear, informative and inspiring. Don’t take ages to get going. Gets straight on with it. I’ve viewed lots of watercolour channels on RUclips and this is best one. So easy to listen to. After a couple of years I’m going to start painting again.
Thanks Emma, this is the FIRST time I've understood this despite listening to lots of others trying to explain. You've explained it so well and easily that even a dim wit like me can understand! x
She used yellow ocher & orchid with a touch of Payne's gray to make a muted brown for shadows on a white animal. Who would have thought you could get brown from yellow & a lighter purple. Go figure. I'm learning!
You're explanation of color mixing actually made sense to me. I've listened to other artists explain it and it was as clear as red and green mixed together. :) Thank you.
So interesting. A few I got right but oh my got wrong on more. I did make the two color charts not to long ago. That was interesting. Thanks for the video. Excited to see other videos.
Love this series already. Last Christmas I tried for-ever to get true blue green pine color for Colorado pine and got close by accident, but I think this will help with general guidelines. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this series! As a beginner this info is so important as to not get frustrated with the lack of colors in my palette. I’ll just create the ones I need 😉
THANK YOU for sharing your knowledge with us. I am really looking forward to this series. I have watched almost all of your videos and have learned so much. You have made it look so easy.
Yay! I am so very happy you are doing this series. I struggle with knowing what to add to get what I’m looking for. I learned a lot today. It finally started making sense. Can’t wait to watch this series. Thank You Emma ☀️🌠💕
Ahhh, good I need some fresh knowledge in this subject. Wanna follow and try them out too, and mabye some extra mixes in each colour. Thank You for this, You are a great teacher!
This is wonderful! I can't wait to learn more about mixing colors as I'm clueless and feel like I waste a lot of paint never mind the frustration of it all!! Thank you Emma!!
I think there is always more to learn about color mixing. Especially if you’re a beginner like me. I have a request for a future video. I’ve been given some Arches cold pressed ROUGH watercolor paper. I’m finding it harder to paint on that the regular Arches cold pressed. How about a video for how to paint on rough cold pressed paper? Does that interest anyone else?
Emma you are a witch !! I came on here to specifically look at colour mixing and Et Voila here you are doing just that ... Thank you so much for all your content it is so valuable xx
This series will be amazing! Could you please tell us what your base colors in your palette are? My winsor and newton palette is based on your colors but I would love to know which ones these are. Thank you
Yes sorry, I meant to mention it in the video on forgot. So the 8 colours I will be using for this whole series are Dioxazine purple Permanent rose Turquoise Ultramarine hookers green dark Sap green Cadmium yellow Cadmium red deep. Also they are all listed in the description!
This was very helpful, Emma! I took notes. If I were to start a small Windsor and Newton Professional paint pallet, what paint colors would you recommend I get?
When putting my colour from pan on the case lid inside it does not leave the paint very well, off the brush. Not sure if this explains but is there a way to make case more acceptable to receive my paint to mix?
I'm curious why it's so bad to buy a lot of different colors rather than mixing your own. Isn't this a more fool proof way to get a consistent color? Not that I'm against mixing.
This is false. Blue, Yellow, Red is outdated and wrong. It's Cyan, Yellow, Magenta. Complementaries being Red, Blueish Violet and Green. That is why your green looks so dull.
Love this series! Thank you. I started painting again after 30 years and never had any true "color theory". I am excited to go play.😀
Your channel is gold! Thank you for your generosity to share this color theory. Thanks a lot!

Lovely video! I love mixing colors. I’m practicing a lot lately. I’m kinda new in watercolors. Only one year. So... lots to learn !

This is so helpful!! Great explanation. Thank you! Baby was so sweet in background. No worries 😉
Interesting I have noticed most artist mix their colors even black. I will have to put these down and practice. Thx

I have painted on arches rough and it’s not my favourite. It’s way more textured. You may just need to use more water.
Emma Lefebvre I’ll try that.
Merci pour ces patientes explications tres instructives!!
Just the thing I was searching for..... I'm damn sure I'm gonna be the first one to watch all the episodes of this series.
Emma you are a witch !! I came on here to specifically look at colour mixing and Et Voila here you are doing just that ... Thank you so much for all your content it is so valuable xx

Very clear explanation Emma. I'm trying to make an antique turquoise color. Any tips on what I can use?
Use it’s complementary colours. Blue and orange are complementary colours so add a tad bit of orange
Very helpful!
Thank you so much
This was very helpful, Emma! I took notes. If I were to start a small Windsor and Newton Professional paint pallet, what paint colors would you recommend I get?
Beautiful
Amazing
Can you show how to paint Indian jasmine flowers please

Hi just starting ☺️ new subscriber
.Your channel is so cool.😍.🕊️좋아요!!!
I'm curious why it's so bad to buy a lot of different colors rather than mixing your own. Isn't this a more fool proof way to get a consistent color? Not that I'm against mixing.
Emma I forgot to mention that I literally am trying to find colors from 4 different palettes as I don't know anything about mixing them :( Help!!
Nice video and well explained even for a French guy 😂
👏👏💓💓
