I have a “wish list” that I use to write down all the non-essential items I want. I leave on the list for at least a month and then if I still want it I will buy. 9/10 times, after a month, I realize I don’t really want it! Hahaha
At least 20-25 years ago in the age of catalogs I would dog ear the pages containing all the things I wanted. Like you a month later 9 times out of 10 I’d take a pass.
even better: don't have a wishlist, if you like it enough, it'll be in your head rent-free. If you still want it after a couple of months, then maybe you actually want it.
This is exactly what I do too but I wait even longer than a month. I can see how some might not want to make a wish list, but I feel like it helps me compare bags so I don't end up with too many that are too similar since I sort of categorize them by size/color.
Actually no. Having a wishlist helps your brain bypass the need to add to basket and purchase. So a wishlist does more than simply having it rent free in your head. If you use an online wishlist it psychologically finalised that item. Then you go back a month or 2 later and delete what was not in your head rent free. This also encourages you to continue not buying. Tried and true.
More of these videos, please! I'm currently cleaning out my closet and it made me appreciate what I have and rewiring my brain that I don't need anymore stuff.
This is the girl math that I need. 30/30 and count your savings! I’m trying to be a more conscious or intentional buyer and resist the quick purchase. Also working on streamlining what I have to what I love. Good luck to us all! We got this!
I’m on the same boat. I bought a lot stuff in 2019-2021. I currently try to appreciate what I have and try to use them more. I love your 30/30 rules. I have been doing something similar. If it’s a big purchase, either a bag or fine jewelry piece, I would wait 3-6 months, sometimes even longer. 90% of these wishlist items cannot make it to the final purchase list 🤣 Even the ones I ended up buying, half of them have not been used or liked as I expected. So I started buying less and less. I have not bought anything this year so far 😊
I am doing low buy no buy, and am tired of the consumption, the being influenced. Thank you for sharing these videos they are so genuine and so are you. Ana
LOVE THIS!!! Please make a series I used to do so much impulse purchases it’s crazy (thinking back) , I think shopping was my hobby which is very toxic Please give more tips on “shopping less” 🥰🥰🥰 I think I’m at where you were 2015 I have 2 young kids now and with their things added … I feel so overwhelmed because I used to buy so much myself Better late than nvr … I’m glad I noticed my unhealthy spending habits and want to make a change!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 thanks for the video
I started writing down things that I wanted and found that after only a few days I had all but forgotten about them. This was shocking to me and it was pretty much an instant curb on the need to spend for instant gratification. I hope your journey is going well and I’d love more content along these lines as we can never have too much information, says she with her primarily left brain, masculine energies 😂
So none of us really “need” anything but I’ve been online browsing/shopping as it’s a distraction from the hard things in life. I have lost both of my siblings in the last 2 years, which is heartbreaking 💔 I am an only offspring left for my parents. I do realize this isn’t healthy. I continue to look but have slowed down in spending. I do try to keep a select number of handbags that all have their purpose so I feel good about that. I appreciate how thoughtful you go about your purchases too and enjoy watching your videos.
My heart goes out to you and your family Linda. Please go easy on yourself. We are wired to self-soothe during tough times. If online browsing and shopping is the distraction you need for this season in your life, so be it. When you’re ready, you’ll move into another season. If it helps, perhaps “browsing” other beautiful things can help replace the shopping. Sometimes I will browse art at the museums, or nature in the park, or people watch in trendy neighborhoods that I’m no longer cool enough for 😂 or even browsing your own closet so see all the pretty things you already have. I’ll be rooting for you. ❤
Great advice! Would love to see more ideas to keep on track. Thank you for the 30/30 rule, I will be implementing it. I'm taking baby steps, NO BUY from February 1 to May 1.
I really like the 30/30 rule. I put myself on a no buy challenge on purchasing anymore Coach handbags for 2024. The last two years, my spending with the brand was ridiculous lol 🙈😅
We all have certain brands or certain categories of items that suck us in! Good on you for the self awareness! Enjoy the Coach bags you already have and I’m sure the new ones will look less appealing! 😉
Great video! I bought and sold so much since 2020 - I am definitely an impulse buyer. My no buy January has moved into February with me. And I hope to continue through the year. Please more videos like this one. As always, enjoyed this video very much!
This is so helpful!! Thank you so much. I feel extra inspired to spend less on frivolous things when it's coming from someone who can obviously afford it but chooses not to 😊.
For the first time this year I ventured into Chicago. I needed to see the watch repair man. As I walked on State Street I thought of popping into Anthropologie. I like their home goods and handbags. I took a pass. Same thing happened at Nordstrom Rack and Uniqlo. I really really don’t need anything. I know I have enough clothes, coats, jackets and handbags for at least two people. I will definitely take 30 days to decide before making a purchase. I’ve done it before.
I loved your video. I was in Amsterdam and Brussels about six months ago. I saw some of the same sights. I too live in New York. I love your channel! Enjoy the trip.
never thought of doing a wishlist for non-essentials. thank you for the idea. this yr i dont want anymore clothes or shoes. i am tired of the clutter. i spent 3wks redoing my closet that i dont want to deal with that again. now each time i get tempted i remind myself how much a pain that was so i dont buy anything. overall i want less things in my house
Great video! I've also been asking myself if I like the things I'm looking at as much as what I already have. Most of the time the answer is "no," but once in a while something comes along that is unique or special enough for me to say "yes!"
Right! Very rarely is the novelty of a new item better than what we already have, but if you do indeed find something wonderful, then we can joyfully make that decision knowing we thought it through! ❤
Love that you commented on not just the financial outlay of shopping but also the time, energy, etc. It's not just about money, it's about finding a place to store the new item, and also the energy that might go into altering clothes, for example. I also really enjoyed seeing your plants! 😂❤ Please keep doing this kind of content!
I love this! Last year I started buying less because I was getting overwhelmed with the inventory in my house. This year the low buy is very intentional. While I will never be a minimalist like The Minimal Mom (her YT channel is full of ideas) I feel I can be more of a intentionalist. 💕
Loved this video! I can’t wait to see more content from you that isn’t handbag related. Also…..I do my nails at home too. I have 100’s of bottles and I haven’t bought a new bottle of polish in 2 years. But what’s funny is I replaced buying nail polish with other things. I find if I get rid of one spending habit I replace it with another spending habit. For me it was clothes, shoes, and bags in stead of nail polish. I now have slowed down my spending on those items and I’m aware of the fact that I could very possible replace that spending habit with another. Thinking about my habits and what need I’m trying to fulfill by buying has been hard but helpful so I don’t get caught in a spending loop, again.
This is awesome. I have a wishlist and I’m currently implementing the 30/30 rule for them. I’ve also started “shopping” my closet and enjoying things that I already have. TFS
I love the “low buy” approach, which is much less restrictive than a no-buy and less likely an opportunity for me to rebel. Lol. The item trading approach that you referenced is very similar to the one in/one out method. I haven’t always been successful but for the most part, over the years, I haven’t purchased a luxury item unless I’ve either sold or parted with a similar item. Thanks for this video!
Yes! I agree, no buy is impossible 😅 unless we specify a certain category. But low buy is very doable. Or at least “lower buy” than the previous year! I’ve done the one in/one out approach for a long time in certain categories and then I started making in 2 out of / 1 in to challenge myself… but at the end of the day, it all requires so much effort. Easier to just be happy with what we have. 😂
THANK YOU for this video! It couldn’t have come at a better time. I’ve been obsessing over an MZ Wallace coupon that I was trying to use by 1/31, but honestly, I didn’t find anything I needed. This video reminded me to step back and wait, and losing out on a coupon isn’t the end of the world 😅 2020-2021 were my crazy shopping years, and I have cut down significantly in the past 2 years. I’m still tempted to shop by all the emails I get, but partly due to my over-analyzing trait, I’ve been saved from actually buying anything. I’m loving you sharing your journey with us! Such an inspiration.
Ahh!! Good for you!! I’ve let many coupons go “wasted” and I’m all the better for it. A coupon is only a saving if we wanted to make that purchase in the first place. 😉
Really enjoyed hearing about this approach and how it helped changed your mindset! Will try to implement some of these approaches going forward. Thanks for sharing! ❤
Very good advices! I noted this year that each and every time I waited few days to get an item, I didn’t want it at the end. Impulsive purchases are my weakness when it comes to handbags. 😫 I love the mindset of abondance, I will practice it. I am a very disciplined person in general, but it’s really the one aspect where I need to work on.
Great video! We are in the same mindset lately. I’m scaling back and getting rid of things that no longer serve me or are just sitting around. I also implemented a rule to not stock pile. I love the 30/30 concepts! Please continue to share your journey 💕
Thank you for the video. I try to do less buying for about 5 years. I accept that “no buy” is so hard but waiting methods(30/30…) are useful. It gives you time and you can discuss with yourself. And yes you can continue to produce similiar contents. Have a good day🌸🍀⭐️💖

It’s amazing how much gets cut from the list.
This is what I need right now. 😂 Although I'm thinking one last splurge for the quilted Tabby and Broome carryall from Coach as I made a video about them. Tfs❤
I have been on low buy / no buy for years. But this year I decided it’s not going to be one of those years. I still have my budget and I won’t go over my budget for anything. There are many reasons why I’ve decided on that but next year it’s going to be back to my low buy / no buy year! 😂
Yes please more of this type of video. If I understood you, if you purchase something you put it i the notes section of your phone--so when do you transfer it to a spreadsheet -- end of month, end of year?
Hi Hannah, what are your views on splurging on fine jewelry (not from luxury brand) versus perhaps getting much cheaper alternatives (stainless steel, titanium)? Perhaps an idea for another video ☺☺
Great question! My kids receive allowance so we talk about the value of purchases (is it worth it), and whether they have a similar or same item at home already, and we teach delayed gratification. For example, my kids LOVE reading. They find books they want all the time. But we put them on hold at the local library and they wait for the book to be ready for pickup. Small habits like this help reinforce that RIGHT NOW and MORE isn’t always the answer. Hope that helps!
Have you heard of the popular ‘cash stuffing?’ I’ve been thinking of trying it but I use my card for most everything, rarely have cash. Plus I thinks it’s easier to track spending when you pay with credit. I guess the point of ‘cash stuffing’ though is to have the physical feeling if cash in your hand then your less apt to spend. Love to hear your thoughts on this!
Oh yes! I’ve heard of it. I personally haven’t tried it. I admittedly rely on my credit card for convenience and ease of tracking. I also like my rewards points (we travel a lot and the points add up for flight upgrades, etc) but … I do have my kids use cash (their allowance) because it definitely teaches them the value of a dollar whereas a credit card is invisible money. I remember my son, when he was very little, he said how “lucky” I was to have a credit card that pays for everything! I had to explain that I have to pay for everything back otherwise the credit card company will charge me interest and I’ll wind up paying more for the purchase than the original price. His little brain computing this reality was hilarious. 😂
This video came at a perfect time for me to get my shopping in check. I’m saving this episode so I can rewatch when I’m tempted to buy unnecessary things. Thank you for sharing 🩷🤍🩷
Love this! I just did a video and a short on my channel on this same topic-how to break a shopping addiction! Definitely timely and something we need to keep discussing imo! ❤
I don't go to stores (physical or virtual) that tempt me. I can't be tempted to buy what I didn't SEE 😂 seriously, it works 🤷🏾♀️ I'm honest that I don't go anywhere anyway so I don't NEED that bag 😂
Oh when i watch your video, i feel so guilty. Ok not that i buy a lot but still here and there. You know what i mean. Do you write down on your daily expenses? I do but at times i miss out a lot and can't remember. Luxury items yes i do jot it down how much i had spend but still not good enough to track if i really did not buy a lot last year or so. The 30/30 rule is so good. I am so tempted by the Speedy 20 in DE where else i already have Speedy 25. Argh....really and i do not use my Speedy 25 enough too. I do not have a lot of handbags (ok 26 including all pouches) but i want to control my spending. I have handbags for all occasions already. So do i need another, no but so tempted even that is contemporary. Clothing's i am slidely better but still have room to improve. Shoes i am so far ok with it as i do not buy a lot until the one i wear a lot worn out. Thanks for this great video, more please 🤗🤩😍I want to save for my travel instead.
But you collab with dressupyourpurse. In other word, you ask ppl to shop. Just sayin’ ☺️ It’s tough as content creator. Probably low and affordable buy goal will be more realistic.

@@hellocatwalkcity that is so cute! Good for u! You’re really doing a great job w them!
Please more of it
Love the 30/30 rule
i'm going to france in a few weeks and i'm fighting the urge to shop just because it's a good deal! haha
So helpful
Love your new idea 30/30 rule, but with inflation so high I will modify mine to 50/30😊
Then make it the 50/50 rule for you. Sounds better. 😂
❤❤❤
I don't go to stores (physical or virtual) that tempt me. I can't be tempted to buy what I didn't SEE 😂 seriously, it works 🤷🏾♀️ I'm honest that I don't go anywhere anyway so I don't NEED that bag 😂
Yess, not looking is the easiest way to avoid temptation! 👏 Now, I have to figure out how to walk around with my eyes closed. 😂😅
Great content but poor rubber plant needs those bottom two leaves removed!
I removed them right after filming! 😂 🪴
But you collab with dressupyourpurse. In other word, you ask ppl to shop. Just sayin’ ☺️ It’s tough as content creator. Probably low and affordable buy goal will be more realistic.
I appreciate the candor in your comment and I will address this in an upcoming video.
Lol
