She had no right to hit or question her. Even if she is upset since she wants aybige to marry her son to push his reign to be legitimate. Aybige is a princess and has rights according to their system...good thing she didn't marry her son.
Hurrem is the worst woman on this show, and the worst character after suleiman. Mahidevran had bad moments, but she's better than that disgusting monster

@@anustasiasyed8834 True aybige was the princess of crimea but hatice was the princess and sultana of the great ottoman empire,! Much more royal and powerful than aybige..
This is one of my favorite lines from Valide because I think, in an odd way, she respected Hurrem as an opponent as like could recognize like. But, where Hurrem and Ayse Hafsa thrived in the harem, Mahidevran floundered under the influence of it; it seems to have had a really bad affect on her nature, whereas, in her son's sanjak, she operates with far more grace.
I mostly agree but I don't know- no matter how right or wrong Valide is here (she was both, IMO), this scene is somehow very thematically off for me, because it seemed for so long afterwards that Valide would die tragically, having realized that she has defended the "wrong" side her entire life which is... weird, because I never felt that the themes of the show were picking a side but here, it's as if they somewhat did for the fanservice. Thank goodness Hü's monologue to Hafsa episode 61 fixed that problem, though.
@@plams4488 I mean, I don't think the Valide was necessarily meant to pick sides either. But where Ayse Hafsa placed Mahidevran under her control with ease, she couldn't do the same with Hurrem. Which, to be honest, sometimes impacted her reign over the harem itself (inciting the concubines against Hurrem and or murdering her horse are some big ones). But I think she could respect Hurrem's ability, if in a very begrudging way, because it takes considerable ability to rise in the harem, especially as far as Hurrem did. Although, I'm gonna be honest, I really *didn't* like how we're supposed to believe Hurrem's speech to the Valide is what sealed her death. It just seemed like another pointless way to be like, "Ha! See, she's a *villain*!" and ruined what could have been an interesting moment of truce between two old foes.
@@Redluna32 You do have a point about Valide's dynamic with Hürrem and that could be the reason she said this line in the first place. However, I was referring more to the narrative voice of the show itself than Valide, the narrative voice was picking sides here IMO. As for that scene, yeah, they kinda dropped the ball here, besides, I don't understand why she even did it, she herself wanted Valide to get better and she knew that if Valide died, Mahidevran would keep ruling the harem permanently (and that's exactly what happened before SS gave the harem to Hürrem), so that move was a clear autogoal. I think the writers made it clear that Ibrahim and Nigar and the stress that situation caused and would cause were also part of the reason Valide passed away, but yeah, that scene...
Actually I have to disagree, sure Hurrem and Valide do better in the harem than Mahidevran (it's also because Suleyman cared for them while he clearly abandoned Mahidevran) but have you seen the terrible things they also do ? For me this serie's goal (except telling the story of Sultan Suleyman's life) is to show how toxic a harem is for women.
@@shanouboubou I won't lie, you've hit the nail on the head with an issue I so often raise with people---blame the system, not the women who were forced to become victims of it. But, in the end, I'm not really trying to see one woman did things more horrible than the other (they all did and or had to do quite a few terrible things). I just think that their ways of planning these things were fundamentally different and, whereas Mahidevran made immediate, rash decisions only to be stuck regretting the consequences later, it was Hurrem and Ayse Hafsa who knew how to play the long game and plan their steps with the care the harem demanded. It’s funny how everyone has a problem with Mahidevran slapping Aybige but no one ever has a problem with Hürrem slapping Hurichan who’s also a member of the dynasty
It's mostly has to do with their ranks within the harem hierarchy. Mahidevran was a concubine who bore a son while Aybige who was a royal princess. Someone with a lower ranking can't slap another person who's higher ranking than her. Hürrem, who was already a Haseki Sultan, could and can slap Huricihan because shes a hanimsultan (a daughter of a true born sultana) and has a lower rank than Hürrem.
Oh, and hurrem isn't? Don't forget the things she did to completely innocent women, just because suleiman fell for or slept with them. She choked gülnihal and burned her face, choked firuze and killed isabella, among many other things. Whatever Mahidevran did, hurrem did 5x worse stuff
There is no evidence that she liked or supported hurrem if you study the historical records. Valide didn't care much about the women, she only cared about suleiman and the peace in the harem. She tried to keep the peace between hurrem and Mahidevran, but she didn't have a favorite
