Johann Strauss II (October 25, 1825 - June 3, 1899), also known as Johann Strauss, Jr., the Younger, the Son (German: Sohn), Johann Baptist Strauss, was an Austrian composer of light music, particularly dance music and operettas. He composed over 500 waltzes, polkas, quadrilles, and other types of dance music, as well as several operettas and a ballet. In his lifetime, he was known as "The Waltz King", and was largely then responsible for the popularity of the waltz in Vienna during the 19th century.
Some of Johann Strauss' most famous works include "The Blue Danube", "Kaiser-Walzer", "Tales from the Vienna Woods", and the "Tritsch-Tratsch-Polka". Among his operettas, Die Fledermaus and Der Zigeunerbaron are the best known.

BRAVO piccolo soloist! Remember, Mehta studied at the Vienna Academy. My violin teacher, Haig Balian, was his room mate. They both were with the L.A. Phil back in the day.
The piccolo player is unbelievable ! What incredible articulation. How can anyone play that rapidly ?
Thank you Tom and Jerry for introducing me to this wonderful piece. I wouldn't have found out about this if I never watched the cartoon, this overture will forever have a special place in my heart.
Unless you're educated about good music. Nothing to do with Tom and Jerry. This is Johann Strauss, perfect music!!! Make your own music in America!!!
You should thank T&J for the Hungarian Rhapsody No 2 too.
Typical American!! I know that song without watching Tom and Jerry!!!!
Want to hear a point quite opposite from this western guy? No hostility, just wanted to show a different perspective...
So, it was in the mid-80s, in school. Moscow, USSR, school #15 (specialization: English from 2nd grade 2 classes a day (45 mins x 2) - we were 8 yo then, as opposed to the regular school, where English was taught very basically in the last 3 years, 2 hours a week.
Needless to say, this was a horrible workload for a little kid. 7 "hours" (45 mins + give or take 15 mins break) a day. 6 days a week. But I digress.
So, twice a week we had "music" as our 7th lesson. it was around 3pm (we started at 8:30) We were all half-dead from all the studies. Our music teacher, seeing that we are not quite able to, say, try a chorus, would often just say: "Today, I will put up a record of... and then gave us the opportunity to doze off for the last 45 minutes in school that day, while something classical played on the old scratched vinyl. It was there, where I really learned to appreciate classical music. This wonderful piece included, of course. I still love classics and listen to it all the time. Don't judge me hard : )
The important thing is that you got here. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
Listening to Wiener Philharmoniker play Fledermaus is like listening to a Spaniard play Flamenco or a Black American sing Gospel. Centuries of culture. It's untouchable by those who weren't born into it. I envy them all.
Thanks Tom and Jerry will always be my childhood
Comparto contigo Tom y Jerry en hollywoodbol
... and only the conductor remains to play every part?
Me too!👍

So powerful... no way to describe. All you can do is sit.. and listen .. and smile. And for just a moment, all is right with the world.
😍

Until it finishes and you realise the world is not alright. Don't be so delusional.
@@markcaldwell2831 Feel better about yourself now? I said ... "JUST FOR A MOMENT", God Damn Dummy .. not for ETERNITY. Go steal someone else's joy, you fool. Mine is entirely intact.
This piece is one of the very few things in life that makes me smile, the instant I hear the first notes.
Didn’t know it had a connection to a cartoon until reading some of these comments!
Literally No one can play Strauss like Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, others just pass by the right tunes ❤️
Berlin Philharmonic does it great!
IMO the Vienna Philharmonic is the best orchestra in the world --- and I'm from Chicago ! Well, CSO, you're in 4th place behind the Vienna, Berlin and Concertgebau.
Agree. The VPO is indeed the best.
Thank you, Tom & Jerry for introducing this masterpiece! 💝
Extremely skilled orchestra and beautiful melody... now my room becomes a stage in Vienna
I love this overture, you can’t help but smile listening to J. Strauss II’ music !
Damn, that piccolo playing at 8:17 was flawless!
Boccaccio1811 yeah but dont mic the piccolo!
Boccaccio1811 Of course. Its the Vienna Phil!
Boccaccio1812 .
Guenter Federsel piccolo.
Guenter Federsel Piccolo
tom and jerry : is violins
Can we please appreciate this very fine piece entirely for its own sake, without any reference whatever to Tom and Jerry.
I will refrain from comment about those who still feel they require it.
Amen, brother!!!!!
Johannas Straus acompañó la juventud de muchos de nosotros y nos llevó a volar y conocer otros paisajes!!! De hecho nos inspiró a hacerlo!
Das Orchester in Perfektion, einfach exzellent!
My Favorite song 🎵
What a setting and what an orchestra - bravo Maestro Mehta! It had me dancing around the room.
That was beautiful. Superb performance
Beautiful, richly textured, and unhurried in delivery. I love it
Just amazing!!! Bravo!!!👏👏👏👏
Excellent performance . The best I heard and I saw this operetta at least half a dozen times . Maestro Zubin Mehta was superb . Bravo !!! . Thanks . Todo .
Many memories in this music 😢
Despite the output of Johann Strauss II, which rarely went past popular dance music and operetta, the man was a savant of theory and orchestration, especially evident in this overture!
C’est magnifique, le directeur musical fascinant, merci beaucoup 🇫🇷❤️🙏🎼🎶🎵🎻
I hear that amazing melody🎶🎵 and I see a maus😮
She can fly!👍👍😁😁😁
1:55 My favorite theme, which also returns at 6:13. And then i also like this theme 4:12
I love this. So beautiful.
just beautiful,wonderful music
Fantastic performance.
Out of all of them that have been played this one is probably the best one out of all of them it also gives such a good reminder of the tom n Jerry episode the holly wood bowl.
Zubin Mehta the Parsi boy from Mumbai, India. Super!
Una extraordinaria interpretación llena de vigor y alegría a cargo del gran director hindú.....Sin palabras...
Yo creía que era árabe.Lo admiro mucho, sea cual sea su nacionalidad!
🍃♥️🎶🙏🎶😎👑Zubin Mehta’s fiery style...w Vienna Philharmonic’s precise sensuality... perfect for performing Strauss’ Fledermaus overture 🌹🎶♥️🍃wish I was there ,)
Agree
Great and the bass in the prelude to the coda was amazing
I much prefer the Vienna Philharmonic when conducted by Zubin Mehta. This is a very good example of why I feel that. Ausgezeichnet!!
Maestro Mehta the one and only
Fine piccolo playing! Although, I wouldn't mic it; the instrument is already naturally loud. Also, I love how I hear a true ensemble instead of a lot of individuals playing. The Vienna Philharmonic really knows how to play like one instrument.
Magnifico,hasta los aplausos suenan bien.
Kedvenc operanyitányaim, illetve kedvenc vígoperáim egyike!
Simply brilliant.
Superb. Absolutely superb
is nobody mentioning the fact that the man at 0:34 who is playing the melody looks exact way like the cat does in the tom and jerry episode?
Manifique un pur bonheur merci pour cette très belle musique sublime 🎼🙏
Como se hace para escuchar otra cosa después de esto? Sublime es poco !
5:59 You can almost hear that bus
This made me laugh harder than it should have.
excellent music
According to the expert listening to classical music is good for the BRAIN. Good music.
The origin of this piece was really know how to made it so perfect, loud & harmonic... 👍👍👍
Wow I like this performance damn. Its wonderful
SUBLIMELY ! BRAVO 👏👏👏
El maestro Mehta es un espectáculo en sí mismo.
IMO ---- the best symphony orchestra in the world
I live in Cambodia, where it is very warm. When I work at home, I throw a towel on my chair. Today, coming back from the kitchen with vanilla pudding to celebrate the end of a day’s work, the towel had shifted - and what’s that on the cushion? A bat. A pancake-flat, bat. Welcome to the tropics. So, I am listening to this musical piece to memorialize a flat bat’s life, foreshortened by my, ah… look, it was his fault. Please join me in remembrance. Have some pudding.
Magistrale. Grandissima sensibilità il direttore.
OMGGGGG WHO IS THAT PICCOLO PLAYER BRAVO 👏 👏👏👏👏👏👏 AMAZING !
Musik in Perfektion....traumhaft....
great job 👏 everyone this was amazing !!👏👏
Simply, sublime
Rap, House, Commercial, Deep, Electro,..,..,.. whatever we listen to ! Symphonies are unique ! You can't play a symphony alone, it takes an orchestra to play it.
Beautiful
2:54... I'll bet a lot of us were waiting for that part...😉
I could not stop myself thinking about the bus running over Tom at 6:09.
My favourite part in that episode 😂😂

i would pay $10,000.00 to hear them play in person !!!
I think with that amount you should be able to get a plane ticket to Vienna form pretty much anywhere in the world and do hear them live. ;-)
Bravo! 👏👏👏👏

Just had a bat in the house recently.
This commemorates the event.
Had to stun it, but think it survives.
Disapointing. Nobody fell through the floor.
was expecting a bus somewhere also
Not a black cat in sight
Sin
You’re just imagining Tom and Jerry in the Hollywood Bowl 😂
I understood that reference 😂
我想,如果沒有傑利鼠的搗亂,湯姆貓肯定能順利地指揮這完整的交響曲。
I remember tom and jerry 'cause of this! '°'
