Thanks for helping me out, ive been watching a bunch of youtube videos because i want to go to NYU and i want to learn about housing & dorms :) this helped
I’m class ‘24, in CAS and majoring in psych!! Super excited to go but I am having such a hard time picking a residential hall. I feel like rubin is such a split dorm- you either don’t mind it or completely hate it. If you don’t mind I would love it if you gave me more info on ur personal opinion cuz I was looking to live in low cost Rubin but now idk :(
congratulations on getting in!! there are a few things that I like about Rubin, but I've never actually been inside one of the rooms. I have been inside the building itself though (like the hallways and stuff), and had a class there on the first floor. I really like Rubin's location, as the street it's located on is really pretty and is across the street from a church and when you look down the street has a classic view of the arch and Washington square campus. It's a pretty close walk to campus compared to some dorms and the walk to campus has a very nice new-yorky aesthetic- if that makes sense. I asked a some of my friends who lived in Rubin if they like it and they said that the building is very old and kind of dirty including the dorms itself. The rooms are also generally smaller than most of the other dorms and if you're in a triple, two of the three beds will be bunk beds- which isn't the case in most if not all other dorms. My friend also said the bathrooms are tiny and look like a "prison bathroom." I've been the halls once and they are darker, older and more cramped than the Brittany, Lipton, Founders, but similar to halls in Weinstein. But if you do further research into Rubin and like it, please don't let this discourage you! I know someone who made the best memories and friends in Rubin and she ended up loving the dorm. sorry this is lengthy but hope this helped! and feel free to ask more questions :)
yes! they're on the second and third floor. The second floor is the music hall called "featuring all music endeavors" (F.A.M.E.) and the third floor is the film hall called "big apple, big screen." Glad this video helped : )
I'm a junior in high school, (almost senior in 2020), NYU looks so good to me, but it's super expensive and I'm scared that I will be lonely or lost lol
I would definitely encourage you to apply still. I had th exact same thoughts especially about being able to afford it. My family definitely wouldn’t be able to afford NYU but I took the chance and I was accepted and they gave me ALOT of scholarship/aid money+work study and now I’m excited to be apart of the class of 2025!! You won’t regret it I promise :))
Hey I have a quick question! Do you know if any of the freshman dorms have singles...I know that’s an odd question lol...also thank you for making this video you are so sweet!!💕
i'm an incoming freshman-lipton, goddard, rubin, weinstein, and third north do but there aren't a ton and some are still part of a suite (so u have to share a bathroom)
I applied Lipton first and Britany second for themed housing, do you know the likelihood of acceptances into themed housing floors? I'm scared I won't get either or something I hope that's not possible. I wasn't sure what the criteria was for the essay I had to write so I kinda just went on a wing. Also, do you now exactly when in the summer we find out? (obv corona virus might change everything but)
I think you have a good chance! Most people don't apply for themed floors and I heard that some people also apply for themed floors just to get a specific buildings sometimes- so I think that means you'll have a high chance. I just checked and NYU emailed me back about dorms on July 2nd. Hope this helps :)
I haven't looked into all the options but Palladium, U-hall, and Carlisle are all the closest proximity to campus (all centered near Union Square which is around a 10-15 walk to campus). Palladium has a dining hall, a gym, and the Wasserman Career center all within it. Carlisle has a courtyard in it, but a complaint about Carlisle is that there's only one closed off room (with a door), so some people will end up having to sleep in an area that looks like a living room with a kitchen right by it (and no official bedroom door). I would recommend U-Hall because I've heard good things about it - it also serves food and has a tutoring center within it. If you don't mind being far from campus (which would require a commute) I would recommend Gramercy Greene! It's a really nice building with great amenities and has a great location- but requires a commute. Hope this helped!
so the nyu page says we aren’t allowed to use command strips to hang things but i’ve seen dorm tours where people have...would you say most people use command strips or the required painters tape?
haha i was worried about that too but I ended up using command strips and i think a lot of people do too - i used them this year to hang up my lights and nothing happened to me so I think its fine : ) maybe only use them as a last resort tho just in case!
Is the dorm side in compliance with covid-19 guidelines ? I know WSV is not . I was a porter for CBS who is definitely not even putting any effort at all to stop the spread of covid-19 other than wearing a mask in the presence of the tenants.
Questions. 1)can you plz tell me if I can live in a suite but one or two of them can be my friends???? It's my dream school so I need this information 2)how do you know that you have a package 3)are the dorms clear and is the hall safe 4)did you have to tell other people in your hallway to be more quiet or to clean more??? SORRY BUT I'M NERVOUS😘😘😘
Hi!! In the past you couldn’t live with friends as a freshman- it had to be random selection but with COVID this past year they did allow you to pick friends but I’m not too sure about the details
As for packages, you get an email from the dorm when something comes for you and you can go to the front desk and there will be RAs on duty to give you your package
And yes the dorms are very safe because there’s strict security and there will pretty much never be random people in the dorm, and as for establishing cleaning rules that’s normally something you’d want to discuss amongst your roommates when you first move in together!
definitely start the summer before senior year. most applications are due in dec/jan but it might be hard to focus on it and school at the same time. so i would try to do it during the summer.
Hi ! If I put that I want to be considered for low cost does this mean that I will be more likely to get a triple? I’d like a lower cost double not a triple :(
S. Manager 🥎 i think in most cases you’d get a triple? But i think it would also depend on which building you get. Usually triples are a lot roomier than doubles tho!
Founders was never an apt building. There was a church there which was demolished except for the front wall. So it was built especially for dorm purposes
I watched the whole video even though I graduated college like 6 years ago.. incoming NYU peeps, take advantage of your college time!
thanks charlie! very true advice

heyitsbridge This was really helpful thank you so much for the detailed response!!
heyy even i got into the class of 2020, in CAS for psych too!
Which dorm is closest to the other dorms? (idk if that makes sense?)
i'd say Brittany is pretty central to all the dorms; its kind of in between rubin, third north, and founders :)
i’m binging nyu and other colleges i want to go to videos when i’m Class of 2024 of highschool😞
BAHHA wait that was ME ! When I entered high school I was like nahh take me to college plz 😬😬 but Dw the four years pass by faster than u think 😩
heyitsbridge thank god😹
literally same😫✋
This video was super helpful! Do you know what floors the TECs are on in Brittany?
yes! they're on the second and third floor. The second floor is the music hall called "featuring all music endeavors" (F.A.M.E.) and the third floor is the film hall called "big apple, big screen." Glad this video helped : )

Yes you should apply! You can always see where it goes with financial aid and when/if you do attend, I think you’ll enjoy it :)

does brittany’s dining hall offer vegan options as well??
Brittany actually doesn’t have a dining hall 😄 but lipton and third north have vegan options!
not me watching this while only being a junior in high school lmao
When did you guys receive the housing email ?
Is there an option to dorm alone?
Yes! You can opt to dorm in a single

yep! i had 2 other roomates in my room and 2 more in a connected room, so there 5 of us total : ) quite packed
As a transfer student, is the a dorm you’d recommend that is likely to house sophomores(class of 2023)?

If your a New York resident, do u recommend still moving in a dorm ?? 🤍
It’s a good experience but it’s pretty expensive so that’s something to consider (ig which is more important to u) :)
@@heyitsbridge If I can afford it do you recommend I still dorm?
Are dogs allowed in the dorms?
I don’t think so :/ unless there a special circumstances? I would research it tho they might have a solution

Yes you can :)
