It is possible to break a rib from coughing. I did some years ago, had x-ray too but there is nothing you can do but let it heal itself unfortunately. Take care x
I had a terrible cough that lasted for weeks, Sue, you need to get checked to make sure you don't have pneumonia, hope you are feeling better soon!!!
Years ago I bruised / cracked a rib from coughing so much - was absolute agony. i was on prescription painkillers
It’s absolutely awful I can’t sleep and am still up all night coughing I’ve put if going to the doctors with it but I’m going on Monday as I can’t cope with it anymore
Sue try and get an X-ray. I coughed for months until I had an X-ray and it showed I had a collapsed lung. Now I’ve ended up with bronchiectasis which can flare up whenever x
You have my sympathy, Sue! I've gotten the pain/stitch in my left side after some really bad coughing bouts when I've had bronchitis. It maes you feel absolutely miserable!
It really does I feel so drained with it it’s a month now I’ve had this and I’m still kept awake all night having coughing fits that make me sick 😩

Be careful sue as could be pleurisy. My sis had it twice and thats exactly where her pain was. Hope it is’nt.

Yes Noel a big fibre optic tree, plug in and off to go, quick easy and no decorations everywhere, think how much time it would save you! Amy, I’m 79 and my late hubby and I used to go to Cinema n the 60’s I always fell asleep and had to be wakened to come out of the Cinema, happy days. Hi Sue, I've pulled muscles from a bad cough myself. I found the best pain medicine to take is whatever the UK has for menstrual cramps. In the US we have Aleve for menstrual cramps which is Naproxin Sodium, it has a mild muscle relaxer in it but won't make you feel silly in the head like a prescription does. I hope you feel better soon Love! Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from Atlanta GA USA.
I take midol for my ARTHRITIS and naproxin sodium as well. Both work great!

My mum has a nasty cough as well, and she's on antibiotics as the nurse heard some crackling in her chest. I think Sue might need to go to the doctors just in case she has the same thing as my mum

Oh Sue….I feel so sorry for you with that cough…I get it because last November I developed the same cough which lasted for 6 Weeks…. I swear it was close to having Whooping Cough…. I too had body aches from cough wracking so much…. Hope you get over it soon ❤

Oh it’s possible Noel I broke a rib when I had pneumonia and was in high dependancy they ended up giving me oramorph because of the pain

When you cough so hard, for so long it tears the muscles between the ribs, which makes you feel like your ribs are broken. I went through this with pneumonia. Praying for a quick recovery for Sue.
if your cough is dry I would try to get a cough med with codeine in it- we have that here in Canada..................

Hi Sue, my heart goes out to you! It is most definitely possible to fracture a rib due to coughing. I had pneumonia when I was pregnant with my first baby and my cough was so bad my rib fractured. I hope you heal quickly in time to celebrate a joyful holiday.

Sue, after I had pneumonia last year, I was left with a really bad cough. The best thing I found to help was covonia cough sweets. I was buying them in home bargains for less than £2. Berry flavour. They were amazing and after a couple days the cough was completely gone. Hope you feel better soon xx

Sue, I broke a rib coughing. It was on my back of the ribs and really hurt coughing and my right arm doing much of anything. Please be safe and see if your doctor can give you some wonderful medicine called Benzonatate. They are tiny clear like beads and are like magic. 😊 They work quickly and had my cough under control in no time. 💗 Praying for you and your family and wishing you a safe and wondrous Christmas and New Year.
