  • Another Cathedrals Express to Stratford upon Avon, this time with 30777 Sir Lamiel.
The video begins with the train crossing the Thames on the approach to Cholsey, as seen by the second camera. Why the second camera? Well if I say that the main camera was set up in a field to the right you'll probably guess why.
A prolonged stop at Didcot meant it was possible to get to Culham before the train and we see the slow approach to the station, necessary because of the limited clearance of the platform.
While the loco took water at Oxford we moved to the next location, Kings Sutton. From there we crossed to Stratford where the train arrived some fifteen minutes early and performed a parallel run with a class 33.
After shunting the stock, without any help from the class 33, the loco ran first to Hatton to turn and then to Dorridge to reverse before heading back to Stratford. It is at the north end of the Hatton triangle that the loco is seen on its way too and from Dorridge.
Staying at Hatton we then see the train returning from Stratford and rejoining the main line.
After a short stop in the platform at Oxford the train pulled forward into the loop to take water. It's a shame that the three lights in the car park that would have been of the most use were the three that were not lit.
Finally we end with a run past in the dark at Goring & Streatley.

@Phippstickman Thanks for your comment i'm glad you enjoyed it. Ironically this loco makes the same trip to Stratford this Friday and i intend to be out to video this as well. Although on this occasion it'll be running as 30453 King Arthur.

The camera i use is a JVC GY-DV 5100, a camera that doesn't have autofocus. My Brother provides additional material using a Canon XM2 which does. Some of his shots go out of focus so we don't use them.

Badly bowled indeed mate. I don't do things by half me! Night shots with 30777 are taken to another level with the open cab affording a fantastic glow from the firebox.

Thanks very much. My Brother provided that shot and he's very proud of it.(only joking)If you'd seen my effort taken from the side, now that really was a shame.

You must have some good equipment with you to make videos like that. Most budget camcorders can't keep focus on a moving train!

Yes, really good video work - topped off by the last dramatic night shot. Great lighting and exposure!

Tell that driver that the line from Stratford to Cheltenham closed in 1960. He needs to stop at SOA!

Ooh, nice multiple crossover in the opening shot.
Be good to see her back in action on the main line before long.

Lovely footage of Sir Lamiel, nicely edited with nice crisp images and good variety of clips. I have to say I prefer Sir Lamiel in the darker green BR livery and smoke deflectors - much more attractive and better balanced looking. Loved the run past on the final clip - steam at night - classic shot with the fire reflecting off the exhaust - a perfect end to what others was an extremely enjoyable day! Thanks.
