This looks like a major accomplishment for DS. Knowing that Tomodachi Collection looked this good on the very-limited DS, and knowing what the 3DS is capable of in other games, Tomodachi Life just comes off as appallingly lazy by comparison...

If I recall correctly, based on article I read. There was issues in voice synthesizer, while it was localizing. Hardware's limitation, I believe. Feel free to correct me if that statement is wrong.

I used Desmume emulator. It's been a long time, can't remember much. I recall I used another software to apply the patch on the game.
The emulator I play the game in on my Fire HD 8 is the Free DS Emulator though...
