This is quickly becoming my favorite Retro Channel and just one of my favorite channels overall. A look at early CRPGs like this is so interesting to me. Thank you for showcasing this one.
Nice! Looking forward to following along. I have the book but nice to see these games in motion. I think I prefer the more primitive version of this (I mean, Im probably not going to play either but), it somehow conveys how novel the maze generation and gameplay was better. To me at least
Back then, and today really, RPGs had really non evocative names to make them stand out. Dungeon, Adventure, Rogue etc. I get the genre and I know I'll be dungeon crawling but eh. Beneath Apple Manor just sticks in your head, both the house and the feel. It is a bit misleading since I'd imagine the game was more Lovecraftian or Gothic horror, but I still prefer it to random medieval fantasy term name.

Thank you, it is interesting to go way back and see the very start of the genre. I will be making more soon.
MS Dos in the 1970s? bring it on!

681 pages of Manual 😂
So this is Rogue before Rogue?
@@kirishima638 Pretty much! Although AppleManorLike doesn’t have quite the same catch as RogueLike

I agree! I wondered if the name was because it was originally made for the Apple II, or due to the Golden Apple you had to find, maybe a bit of both!
I think you referred to Scorpia as a man? She's a lady 😉
