This is really interesting look though of tiktok. For process types, they remind me of RUclips channels like code parade or Sebastian league but without the editing or visual flow they have. They are much more raw and compressed since they’re on tiktok.

I’d be curious if there are certain tagging strategies and posting patterns that capitalize on tik toks algorithm. I did a lot of research on instagrams algo and It sucks but to an extent the content itself can be negligible compared to how you post it.
For example, similar to tik tok, the discovery feature is the main way to grow your audience. The discovery feature uses a lot of factors to find videos to put there. One curious strategy to showing up in people’s discovery was to post in un popular tags. In a tag with over 1mil posts you get bumped from the “top” of the tag sooner than in an unpopular tag and by being at the “top” of a tag you’re much more likely to show up in the discovery of people who have liked similar tags.
Also time of day played a big role. The best time to post was Wednesday around 1pm est. However the best way to capitalize on this was to still post every other day of the week to keep engagement high (especially through story polls). I’d then save my best post for the Wednesday 1pm slot. I also found that most of my following was localized to my location. by posting at 1pm wed for time zones where I had a small following and geotagging that location I saw growth in followers from that location. I found that overall this growth was smaller than if I kept my location in the est zone. Probably because my largest following was in the est time zone and therefore I got better engagement on est zone posts and therefore better discovery. However I continued to post sporadically at 1pm in other time zones with geotags in that zone whenever my est growth stagnated (it is unclear how effective this was).
Posts aren’t ever green either (though they do sometimes get a second wind) the most important time for a post is the first hour. High engagement in the first hour will yield high promotion in the discovery algorithm. To drive up engagement I would respond to every comment for the first hour. Additionally posing a question in the bio or the post itself helps encourage engagement. Notably only comments more than 4 words counted toward engagement.
Another thing I stumbled on were “engagement groups” there were large group chats where once per day each memeber can submit a post and everyone else in the chat had to like and comment on that post to artificially inflate engagement.
    Algorithms are neat and gross.

This video is really interesting but man, either increase your volume to the tiktok videos or decrease the volume in them. That was mildly annoying experience.
