I love how you talked about "the third act," etc. It really gets across how, say, the second verse is never just a repeat of the first. Their songs _develop_ like a play, with plots and arcs and twists.
As usual, great job Wave! That stereo guitar effect at the end is played live between Kanami and Kobato and it was to me a highlight of the Day of Maid online live show because it was so unexpected.
X10. This group of magnificent musicians will still be resonating in the subatomic parts of my corpus when animation has fled. I will never ever forget this music.
This is so powerful! Great great music! I am so happy to share the planet right now with this life force called BandMaid! Thanks for the breakdown Wave-san!
Such a great song and thanks for the breakdown Wave! The twists and turns are what had me confused the first few times I listened to Honkai: like you say, it starts out fairly straightforwardly, but then you get all the amazing instrumental interplay, the chorus doesn't quite resolve tonally, everything keeps building, then you get the "epic" resolution at the end and outro in the form of a coda. Brilliant.
The clean natural harmonic on the guitar is just so magically and beautifully out of place it works perfectly. I love listening to reacts from knowledgeable people. I've played guitar for years in garage bands but have always been a hack. You explain stuff that I hear and love but don't exactly know why from a theory perspective.
Great reaction. I sincerely believe BAND MAID is the best, most interesting band in the world. These five incredibly talented women are a gift to the world.
Random note of the day about MISA: In a video about top Japanese bassists, I commented something along the lines of "Some bassists might beat MISA in pure technical skills, but she has BY FAR the best bass tone." Seriously, no one was even close in that area. Now I need to mention that my comment was based on 30secs clips, but I think that over longer time, MISA might beat them in all areas. The whole Unseen World album is bass heaven (and drum heaven and...) . Other bassists might be awesome for some solos and licks, but MISA's greatness is due to her consistency to ALWAYS pull out cool and creative bass lines over entire albums.
“Honkai” was my least favorite song of “Unseen World” when I first heard it. I think it was mainly because of the main guitar riff which sounds (tone wise) close to “After Life” but not as catchy. After countless times of listening, the song really grown on me, especially the second crazy half of the song. And that last couple of lyrics at the end, when Saiki is using her best voice and Miku is backing with her “ahhh ahhh ahhh” at perfection, it gives me goosebumps every time. And It even makes me forgot about the guitar riff 😅 I really love “Honkai” now
Yeah Wave , amongst all the chaos , they know when to just hammer a simple (for them lol) riff , to nail things down for the listener. These girls are all masters arranging, and Kanami , I suspect is at the heart of it . Yes you can never call BM predictable, that's for sure , with all the surprise gem bars. In general Japanese bands think it is an insult to their audience with present the same part again , without at least adding to it. And Misa always going crazy thru out, just in case you were considering a pause lol.
Akane is The Detonator in BM. Her fills are explosive to say the least. Sometimes Misa's tone reminds me o Jack Bruce from Cream, and adventuress to the max.
Some of my favorite parts: 1. Kanami's clean chord before the first chorus. 2.Three stanzas to the chorus. 3. Bass taking the heat for 2nd verse, with Akane's rim clicks and that crazy guitar line leading into the prechorus, 4. Kanami keeping the guitar solo simple and hummable after so much craziness. 5. Kanami loves her codas after the last chorus, in this case with half time epicness.
Have just seen a UK tv serial, now a few years old, but features actress Oona Chaplin. Set in the early 1800s she bore an astonishing similarity to Saiki. It was uncanny watching her as if Saiki was on screen. Sadly the wonderful teeth were absent but a surprising thing to see. Run out of words to praise Band Maid and the astonishing skills of Kanami. Just the best.
I would've been in the live chat Wave to say how awesome this song is but Mr B said to me "Gary for once please don't steal my thunder". What could i do.🤷♂️

Yes well said! It just hit me during this song how cleverly crafted the song is like a good story!
As usual, great job Wave!

"You will forget about me someday"
"No... I don't think we will PO!"

The Day of Maid live version of Honkai is one of the 6 bonus songs available on the DVD/Blu-ray version of Sense.
Great job!. I think after a year of listening to Unseen World this song has become my favorite.
"Honkai" is my favorite song from the album.
Wave having some "feels" in the updated deep dive ;)
Just a phenomenal reaction, Wave! I really appreciate all the breakdowns in this one. I think I'll be coming back to this one quite a few times...
Aww thank you so much! I’ll really glad you enjoyed it! There was so much to talk about in this song!
I feel lazy today, so I'll just copy myself from the stream chat: So many details in even more details!
There, now I can get back to my beer again 😄
😂 Nuff said.

Great song and review. Looking forward to your reactions to the individual parts of the acoustic show.
F me you're fast today. Have you been practicing or something?
@@GaryHolloway-810 Iron sharpens Iron, Gary. I have to stay on top of my game to beat you to the punch.

Band-Maid. Take 5 songs and seamlessly forge them in to an epic 3 to 4 minute anthem.
Honkai is a quiet giant of a song. One of the best on Unseen World. Thanks Wave :-)
Very cool how I can read the chat on your vids. Usually if you miss the livestream you don't see it.
Nice reaction Wave! I absolutely love this song, MISA's bass is SOOOOO growlly! "Geeer-GROOOOWWWLLL!!" Fucking Phenomenal Tone, I 🖤 IT!!!
There's a great live video of Honkai (among other Unseen World songs) on the DVD coming with the special ed of the Sense EP
It's like Chris Egbert said during the live stream. Why isn't AKANE on the DrummerWorld Top 500 YET! She's earned her spot already!
It's a great album when after 6 hits you'll later find a couple more
Hey Wave, when are you going to do a reaction to the "Screaming" song? I've been waiting for months, Akane goes crazy in this one
That’s a good question! My next task is the acoustic in depth stuff, but I’ll get to that!
@@WavePotter You will love it 😁
You will - forget - about me someday. Not likely, Sai-chan!
btw they played it live 5.10.2021 Maid-day
OK Wave, tell me which ending you haven't loved? I thought so...you can't think of any! Great job sir!
I had a really nice performance live.

They always do grow on you eventually 2abug :)
@@GaryHolloway-810 I know, that is why when I listen to them in a car, I always chose a convertible one. So they can grow on me and even further.
