I didn’t read through all comments but my advice is to bypass SL router first (after verifying your SL system is working properly) before plugging in your 3rd party router to the Ethernet adapter. This isn’t mentioned in this video. I followed the video instructions verbatim and after plugging in my router I could not access the SL router settings (in the app) in order to “enable bypass”. Got a message that it was “unreachable “. It was still broadcasting the SSID and still functioning as a access point and router but I could not drill into settings. SL support was able to do something on their end to allow me to finally access router the SL settings. From there I bypassed, plugged in my netgear router, rebooted the NG router and everything worked perfectly.

very nice video. I went to your page talking about routers. So Im still learning. I live on an island in alaska. Love Starlink. Right now Im getting download speeds of mid 200' to 300. I do have a 2 story house with bedrooms below the room with the router. We have family come and visit. Would you recommend a mesh or will a powerful router suffice? of course I know that depends what the walls are made of, distance etc. any extra tips would be appreciated
No, a router won't necessarily give you faster internet speeds. An aftermarket router or mesh system is really only necessary if you have coverage weak spots. With the Starlink app, when you do a speed test, it gives you a "Wifi Speed" result. This is the speed between your phone and the router. If your Wifi coverage is weak, you'll notice this Wifi speed is very low, limiting the speed test. But if you are getting 200-300 mbps, that is very fast for Starlink, so coverage doesn't seem to be an issue. Personally, I have a 1.5 story house and have no issues getting good Wifi coverage with just one router. Even the standard Starlink router did fine in that regard before going aftermarket. The main reason to go aftermarket would be for the additional network configuration and security features that advanced users may want/need. The included router is great for 90% of people. Hope that helps!
You do know that only 5-10 Mbps is required to stream 1080p content smoothly, right? So with 200-300mpbs you could theoretically watch 40 to 60 1080p channels at once.
"Unplug and replug 6 times in a row".... GM and Ford definitely had some ideas that SpaceX used. "Turn to aux and press start/stop button 35 times in a row, press brake then accelerator in sequence 4 times, press start/stop once, wait 15 seconds, press once again. You are now in service mode." lol
And please can I ask, I live in the UK but I want to buy the starlink in UK to be taken to Nigeria for use permanently. Will it work directly in Nigeria considering that I bought and shipped it to my address in London?
Thx, I asked you last time for a stand alone system, with solar and battery for the Starlink. Where we stay we don't usually have electric power. What's the best-recommended solar and battery spec?
It would depend more on what else you are using on the electrical system. Starlink, when heating is off, will use around 20-50 watts. There are solar and battery calculators out there that will allow you to estimate power usage from all your devices, and then calculate the battery and solar size you would need.
Wifi extenders are an option, but most require a WPS button to get the network information from Starlink. The Starlink router doesn't have a the WPS feature to use with extenders. Make sure to get one with the ability to configure it from an app, so you can connect it to the Starlink Wifi that way.
You typically need a public IPV4 address to forward ports, which Starlink Residential doesn't provide. You can upgrade to their Priority service plan to get a public IPV4 address, or use IPV6 instead.

You can, although it’s not ideal to have 2 routers on the same network. Mesh nodes can be hooked up in a wired configuration on the newest Gen 3 Starlink router (most aftermarket mesh systems as well) but not Gen 2.
Hi, thx for your video. Is it required to set the SL router to bypass mode? How can I set the dish to stow when I tavel with the RV? Because the app is no longer running without SL router, right?
2:40 to turn off bypass mode as per Starlink instructions that i have used many times you need to power cycle "unplug/plug" the SL gateway 3 times not 6.
According to Starlink instructions, it's 6 times, but they probably just say that to make sure there are enough cycles to reset it. I believe they used to say 3 in their instructions, so it probably still works with just 3 cycles.
@@StarlinkHardware - Imagine an intermittent power outage/brownout which cycles SL 3 or more times. Factory reset... oops. lol I think having a recessed reset button would have been a better solution. imo
Thanks for the video! I already have my adapter adapter and plugged in my old mesh network connected to the Starlink router. I haven't set bypass yet, as I want to know how to access the starlink app after that... will it still work?
Yes, the Starlink app should still be accessible even in bypass mode. Some 3rd party routers may require a static route to be set back to the dish IP if you can't connect to the app. The blog post (link in description) has instructions for that.
Hi Colby, how do you do this with the starlink business kit, where you have the option not to have the Starlinks wifi router connected at all? As on the business kit you can plug the Starlink PSU directly to a 3rd party router. Unsure how you can then use your Starlink app to go through all the settings
The Starlink app can still connect to the dish to access all relevant dish settings. With the business kit, you don't need bypass mode, just use your 3rd party router without the Starlink router plugged in at all. Once your phone is connected to the same network that your Starlink dish is on, the app will be able to connect and talk to the dish.
It will give your devices new IP's most likely, because you are switching routers. But the CGNAT IP address of the Starlink dish shouldn't change just because you changed routers.
Thank you for your input , just purchased Starlink roam for our RV. I have no light on the bottom of the router, I checked the plug and outlet for power. Plug is secured and confirmed outlet is hot , still no light. In your opinion do you think the new router is defective? TYIA.
Is it possible to have both the Starlink router and the third party router work at the same time? Like can Wi-Fi work on both without a wired connection?
Thanks for the great video. I have just ordered my adapter in Canada for 50 dollars Canadian which includes taxes and shipping. Amazon wants 90 dollars for it.
The ones on Amazon are just 3rd party scalpers charging people more. It's cheaper from Starlink directly. Starlink.com is the only place Starlink sells their accessories.
This is great - thank you very much. I have a couple questions. I am working remotely in Mexico and I want/need to set-up a VPN as some sites I need access to do not like my Mexican IP address. The only way I can think of doing this is purchasing a router which will allow VPN's and do the starlink passthrough. I have bought 2 additional Starlink mesh routers to extend the signal in my concrete home - they work okay not great but I do have signal throughout my home. If I put the main starlink router in bypass will that disable the mesh routers from picking up signal and distributing throughout my home? Will the TP-Link 1750 work in Mexico? Thank you!
Yes, if you put the main Starlink router in bypass mode, the Starlink mesh nodes will no longer work. The easiest way to do a VPN would be to install the VPN client on each device that you want to connect with. For example, I use Private Internet Access on my laptop and phone. They have apps you download, and you just turn the VPN on and off on the device without having to mess with the router.
Great video thank you. Looking to get Wi-Fi in my metal shop that’s about 100 feet from my home. Was thinking of integrating the deco mesh system you recommend by bypassing the Starlink router. What I plan to do is put one of the mesh routers in the garage, run an Ethernet from that mesh, buried underground, to another mesh inside the shop. Think that would work? Thanks!
Successfully connected Starlink (Bypass Mode) to EERO Pro 6E Mesh Network with 12 AP's supporting 16 Ring Cameras, Ring Pro Alarm, 8 Motion Sensors and 36 Ecobee thermostats. Using this setup to monitor a office location that remains empty since the pandemic. Had to limit the number of T-stats, originally had 78 connected and they were flooding the network. Discovered that Ecobee's act as a repeater looking for sensors, tripling data broadcasting and knocking the AP's down. Long story short, current config works great on the Starlink Network (Priority 1TB Plan).
I have been trying to use the ethernet adapter, I go to settings and when I go to bypass mode it has the message You must be online and logged in with the account associated with this Starlink to update settings. I have tried everything and can not get this cleared to let me access the by pass mode. Does anyone have any ideas as I have reset the starlink many times and still this nag comes up, Just got the dish on 8-22-23 after waithing 2 years.
Yes, you would need power for both. If you have a 12V or 24V battery system in your van, you could simplify it by going with a DC conversion. By purchasing your own POE injector, and hooking it up to your battery system, you can remove the Starlink router completely and use just the 3rd party one. Tutorial here for more information: ruclips.net/video/zy6EqYZlscU/видео.html
You can use Starlink routers as mesh nodes that talk to the main router wirelessly. You just purchase another Starlink router, plug it in to power, and open the Starlink app to pair it as a mesh node.
I would like to limit the DHCP range of IP adresses. I want to use fixed address for my print for example, it seems impossible with router GEN 3. I cannot find the parameter in the App
on a side note: I found that I didn't have to enable bypass mode, after getting all connected on an older router that was already configured I could connect to the wifi on the old router and also on the wifi on the starlink router. I thought it was odd and wondered why everyone is bypassing the starlink router.
You can do that, but you are double NAT'ed with two routers running on the same network. People enable bypass so that their own router takes over DHCP and Wifi completely.
First, thank you for your clear and concise explanations visa/vi Starlink. What do U do for just plain wifi extenders? I have two tp-link RE300 that have been setup directly with the Starlink router. But I get no internet from them just great wi-fi signals! Should I used a router and setup the extenders with the router?
No, it’s mainly to be able to have the advanced features of aftermarket routers. WiFi speed and range would be affected, but not necessarily internet connection speed.
@@StarlinkHardware ow, thank you, I may have put the wrong context, but does the wifi speed be better? For example, since the router is bypassed the speed from the dish of SL to a new router will give the same result like 300 mbps from dish to new router would be the same as 300? I

Can you leave the Starlink router connected and also hook up an external router system?
So now which router among the two data will be using
Thanks for the video!
Is it possible to do a port forwarding in my core router & open some ports not from the Starlink router ?
2:39 as a power supply?
You havent mentioned if we still need to config the ip address of the tplink router using the starlink ip address
could you drop a ink where i can buy the Starlink ethernet adapter
Hi Colby, how do you do this with the starlink business kit, where you have the option not to have the Starlinks wifi router connected at all? As on the business kit you can plug the Starlink PSU directly to a 3rd party router. Unsure how you can then use your Starlink app to go through all the settings
The Starlink app can still connect to the dish to access all relevant dish settings. With the business kit, you don't need bypass mode, just use your 3rd party router without the Starlink router plugged in at all. Once your phone is connected to the same network that your Starlink dish is on, the app will be able to connect and talk to the dish.
Does bypassing the starlink router and connecting your new aftermarket router give you a new ip address?
Thanks.
TYIA.
I know it’s a year later but I now have this same problem.
Is it possible to have both the Starlink router and the third party router work at the same time? Like can Wi-Fi work on both without a wired connection?
That depends if the second router support wireless repeater in WISP mode or something like that
Thanks 👌🏻 ✅
The bypass option does not show up any more in the menu!
Do you configure it as a PPPoE or dynamic DHCP connection to the new router?
I didn't do anything special, it's the base setup on the TP-Link router, and the only thing changed on the Starlink side is enabling bypass mode.
Would the same scenario be possible without disabling the Starlink router? Having both Starlink and Tplink routers working?
Thanks for the great video. I have just ordered my adapter in Canada for 50 dollars Canadian which includes taxes and shipping. Amazon wants 90 dollars for it.
The ones on Amazon are just 3rd party scalpers charging people more. It's cheaper from Starlink directly. Starlink.com is the only place Starlink sells their accessories.
Is the asus ax55 good for starlink?
How can I contact you if you want to get this Wi-Fi device?
Thanks!
That would be the ideal solution. Hardwiring the nodes together will give you the best Wi-Fi performance.
Can I use Intermet switch in order to connect 2 PCs instead of another Wi-Fi?
Can we use both the Starlink and the external router?
Yes you can
Does this increase or have any effect on latency?
No, shouldn't affect any performance metric.
So you would be able to use the Ethernet ports on the TP router/any other router?
Yes, once you have Starlink plugged into your own router, the Ethernet ports on the router will be usable.
Without bypassing, both of them will be broadcasting wifi?
Does the Starlink still does the UTP routing, in case I plug in the utp cable into a hub 1st?
Starlink utp --> hub -->hub utp ---> Router
Can I hook up through the ethernet cable AND still keep wifi in my home for other users?
Do you need to power both the stock and 3rd party router? I am in a van and want to move to a 3rd party router
Is there any variants to use Starlink router as wifi repeater?
I just want to know if bypassing the SL will give a better internet speed?
No, it’s mainly to be able to have the advanced features of aftermarket routers. WiFi speed and range would be affected, but not necessarily internet connection speed.
@@StarlinkHardware ow, thank you, I may have put the wrong context, but does the wifi speed be better? For example, since the router is bypassed the speed from the dish of SL to a new router will give the same result like 300 mbps from dish to new router would be the same as 300? I
So this makes it so the starlink node is only a PoE injector?
Yep!
@@StarlinkHardware I just got it and my desktop cant see the outage/obstruction status of dishy anymore, but my starlink android app can for some reason.
Is it possible to still using the Starlink router wifi with the new router, both at the same time? Greetings from Brazil.
Yes, just don't put it in bypass mode, and use the other router in access point mode.
Can you use both of the router at the same time? Or just don't have it on Bypass Mode or wont work that way as well?
You can use both if you want. It's best to set the additional router in "access point" mode so that they both aren't acting as routers on the same network.
@@StarlinkHardware Got it! Thank you!
Does this ethernet adapter support Cat5e, Cat6, or Cat6a cables?
Crappy rectangle Starlink has no port from which to detach the Starlink router. I need an Ethernet connection - why would Starlink purposely make this impossible????
does this mean we can use internet plans outside the starlink plan?
No
Please i have a question, does it mean after the bypass the SL router won't work only the extended router?
How many router can i use for a single business starlink package ?
and how many user can use at a time and how the internet speed would be ?
After that,Can we Add another Lan network on remaining 4 lan Ports?
Does the aftermarket router allow you to use upnp and port forwarding
Did you get port forwarding to work
@@andioshelpfun sadly no I had to call up starlink and they told me to get on vpn website that allows port forwarding
Thank you for the video and a chance to discuss this.
What app are you using for the router?
The Starlink app.
Ax2400 And ax5400 are basically the same in specs, will the ax2400 be a prefect pair for the starlink?
Hi! will i be able to use LAN cables from my existing network once i connect the adapter?
Yes, you can plug any existing cables into either the adapter itself, or into the LAN ports on a 3rd party router.
I understand the new StarLink router only has USB. Is there a way to run USB to the router or get a USB to Ethernet out adaptor?
Bisakah anda buat video untuk bypass menggunakan router ZTE
Can I using for internet office. Around 25 unit pc?
Can you do this with multiple routers
Technically yes, but you will be double NAT'ed if you are trying to have multiple routers on the same WAN connection.
Good evening team starlink hardware, can we create a hotspot in the starlink router?
if so, by how?
Depende on how you set up the router and what type of router you get.
Planning on using the ethernet adapter to plug into a powercord device and generate a second, power outlet WiFi a few floors up. Will this require bypass mode as well?
No, you only need bypass if you want to disable the Starlink router. You won’t need to do that in your situation.
@@StarlinkHardware Thanks, not only for answering so quickly, but also for having the best possible answer! 😁
Hi, with this set and by-pass mode, can I access my office VPN?
I will be adding my Google nest to the SL system; what do i need to know?
Can I directly plug the ethernet cable to my switch without using any additional routers?
Do you know if you can use the Starlink Mesh router with a. 3rd party router?? Thanks
No, Starlink mesh nodes are only compatible with the main Starlink router, and can't wirelessly connect to a 3rd party router.
Thank you
