Why didn't shirov draw with repetition on h4 and d1?

They agreed on a draw, yes? Because the final position of the Kings made think otherwise...😏

Yes draw. Final king position at 33:18 shows draw.

    7. h4??????????? what??? How could both miss that d4 is hanging?

@eric vosselmans Dude no, both of them blundered and there no is game with that move in the opening explorer. So whats the response to Qxd4? Enginge evaluation is almost -1.

@@ASD1119OI63 I agree that 7. h4 isn't a great move, but less likely to be punished in a rapid game than a long time control game. Considering the speed at which white played this move and the fact that white is a fairly strong FM it is almost certainly a prepared move. There's no way they both missed d4 was hanging, in all likelihood Shirov either wanted "more" from the position and maybe thought that the pawn up ending wasn't to his taste or was worried his opponent had something prepared. The engine evaluation isn't always the end of the story because black may only be able to get an advantage with a very precise sequence.
      For example, 7. h4 Qxd4 8. Qxd4 Bxd4 9. O-O-O and here I would say 9... Bf6 is a pretty natural move at least for me, but loses a lot of the advantage. (On the other hand, 9... h6! appears best for black after which 10. Rxd4 hxg5 11. Nf3 Nc6 12. Bb5 Bd7 13. Bxc6 Bxc6 14. Ne5 Bxg2 15. Rg1 Bd5 16. c4 c5 17. Rd2 Bc6 18. Nxc6 bxc6 19. Rxg5 Rxh4 20. Rxc5) is a sample line, not totally forced, where probably white holds a draw although white will suffer. I agree this isn't really a great novelty for white and I would never play like this, but it might have also been a gamble by the FM that Shirov doesn't take the pawn

h4 is a bad move. It's a rapid game so sometimes players don't mind playing inferior moves to complicate matters.

Voilà ce qui reste de Schirov, une française laborieuse contre un FM inconnu.
