ਇਸ਼੍ਕ਼ ਦੇ ਤਿਲਿਸਮਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਆ ਗਏ ਜੋ ਮੈਦਾਨਾਂ ’ਚੇ;
ਨਿਕਲ਼ ਕੇ ਤਰਕਸ਼ਾਂ ’ਚੋਂ ਤੀਰ ਪਹੁੰਚੇ ਨੇ ਕਮਾਨਾਂ ’ਚੇ,
ਜੇ ਹੁਣ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ; ਫ਼ਤਿਹ ਹੋਵੇ ਅਖ਼ੀਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਹੱਬਤ ਦੀ;
ਉਮੀਦਾਂ ਡਿਗਦੀਆਂ ਹੱਥ ਹਿੰਮਤੀ-ਤਲਵਾਰ ਵੀ ਦੇਵੀਂ,
ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜੇ ਕਰਾਰੀ ਹਾਰ ਦੇਣੀ ਏ;
ਤਾਂ ਫਿਰ ਸਿਦਕ਼ਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੰਮੀ ਜੰਗ ਦੇ ਆਸਾਰ ਵੀ ਦੇਵੀਂ।
ਮੈਂ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ ਜਰੂਰੀ ਨੇ,
ਹਕੀਕਤ ਨੂੰ ਮਯਕਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਰੀਝਾਂ ਜਰੂਰੀ ਨੇ,
ਜੇ ਰੂਹ ਦੀ ਚਾਲ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਅਜਬ ਜਿਹੀ ਆਹਿਸਤਗੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ;
ਤਾਂ ਫਿਰ ਬੇ-ਦਮ ਤਸੱਵੁਰ ਨੂੰ ਜ਼ਰਾ ਰਫ਼ਤਾਰ ਵੀ ਦੇਵੀਂ,
ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜੇ ਕਰਾਰੀ ਹਾਰ ਦੇਣੀ ਏ;
ਤਾਂ ਫਿਰ ਸਿਦਕ਼ਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੰਮੀ ਜੰਗ ਦੇ ਆਸਾਰ ਵੀ ਦੇਵੀਂ।
ਅਸੀਂ ਅਕ਼ਸਰ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਬਾਰੀਕ ਜਿਹਾ ਅਹਿਸਾਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਫੜ੍ਹਦੇ;
ਕਿਤਾਬ-ਏ-ਦਿਲ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ‘ਸਰਤਾਜ’ ਉਹ ਫ਼ਿਰਕਾ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੜ੍ਹਦੇ,
ਚੱਲੋ ਤੂੰ ਵਕ਼ਤ ਵੀ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਤੇ ਬਾਕੀ ਖ਼ਿਆਲ ਵੀ ਰੱਖੀਂ;
ਇਹ ਸਭ ਤਾਂ ਠੀਕ ਹੈ ਲੇਕਿਨ ਤੂੰ ਇਸਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਵੀ ਦੇਵੀਂ,
