This makes me miss what I never had. I'm 17 yet have never got to do the "typical" teenage things. Going out with your friends, staying up all night, screaming lyrics to your favorite music at 3am until you go hoarse, parting and just letting go. But I never have got that, never have been able to let go and enjoy my youth. I've never been social or able to make friends well. Even the friends I do have don't invite me to hang out. I know I only 17 but I'm afraid my youth is passing me by and years from now I will regret letting my anxiety get in the way of having fun. So thanks troye for letting me live through this song and feel like I'm finally living my "rage teenager" years

TV shows and movies are fiction and place unrealistic expectations. Once you're out of the house, you have so much freedom. I don't want to go back to it, but 19 - 22 was absolutely insane. I kinda like this happy/sad era. You can feel what he's feeling through the instrumental of these songs. It lingers on your heart the way pain does. It's such an interesting era to listen to. You can tell he's growing as an artist when it comes to self expression. It's really nice and sad at the same time.

Heaven is a prime example of him expressing his troubles with self identity and was one of the first songs I could really understand. When Bloom era blossomed into what it was, you could feel his confidence through the screen. Bloom is the era where his self expression bursts into all kinds of colors. Heavenly Way to Die is good example of the 'bursting with color' idea. The soft, happy vocals with the intense and rich instrumentals. His way of producing and writing has become more impactful in the sense that he isn't afraid to say everything he wants to. He hits you with a wave of emotions and sets the tone for the song right at the start. Suburbia from Blue Neighborhood is a song that stands out to me when I think of him setting a tone and telling a story well. If you listen to Take Yourself Home and Easy you can see where, with time, he has grown up since Blue Neighborhood. These two songs show you the ache in his chest in two different ways. Both get his point and opinion across well though.
!!! When he released Easy this is exactly what I thought. Been a fan since Trxye and as an LGBTQ+ person who came out between then and now, it's so nice to see him as an artist and as a person grow. Even though he's very private, his songs have become so much more expressive, and I feel like more true to him. I preferred Blue Neighbourhood to Bloom solely because it was more my style (indie over pop), but easy and this one he seems to have found the perfect balance between them, and it's so nice to see him be able to fully express himself as an openly gay man, but also to find his stride with HIS style. He's always had happy sad music but lately he's taking it to a whole other level in his lil niche.
To all the teens listening to this that feels they missed out on a part of their life due to the pandemic, I wanna say: You are the future, and I know you're young, and I know it's hard right now, but you can create a new vision, a new era of what it means to be young. As much as this pandemic has caused hurt, pain, and suffering, maybe it's a chance for a brand new start, for redefining societal trends and expectations. For the last few decades, being a teen meant, at least according to mainstream, partying, fast love, going crazy, broken hearts and bittersweet memories. But this could be the beginning of something new. You don't have to do those things to live your best teenage life, and I think ppl feel sad or that they've missed out or lonely because their lives don't fit those expectations of what it meant to be a teenager. But maybe after this pandemic, being a teen might mean creating shit in your room, being politically involved, helping your community, paying attention to bigger issues, spending time with your family, and zoom dates:)) Maybe it could mean finding joy in the smaller things. Not that you have to do these things, but maybe you could be the generation to make these things the "mainstream epitome" of teen life :))

(trigger warning here, just in case) I remember looking at a kitchen knife, wondering, and almost using it. Luckily, I convinced myself not too. Several years later, I found Troye's music. It saved my life. I was so so so close to doing it again, but he saved me. And now he's released this song. This song makes me so sad because it reminds of how i didn't have all those cool memories from going to parties and stuff. I was obsessed with coming of age films and that classic teen nostalgia, but feel like i missed out on it😭 I did have a few good friends and we did have fun, but it still feels sad that we never experienced the classic teen film things that my friends and i were so obsessed with when it seemed like everyone did. It's like fomo but you know you already missed out. And now i feel like the same thing is gonna happen with my 20s/ early adulthood 😭

2020's dark-horse for best pop artist. He's really molded himself into a one-of-a-kind artist. Lyrics, vocals, contrasts in sound with very nice melodies, and especially, the raw emotions. If you listen to Take Yourself Home and Easy you can see where, with time, he has grown up since Blue Neighborhood. These two songs show you the ache in his chest in two different ways. Both get his point and opinion across well though.
!!! When he released Easy this is exactly what I thought. Been a fan since Trxye and as an LGBTQ+ person who came out between then and now, it's so nice to see him as an artist and as a person grow.
Even though he's very private, his songs have become so much more expressive, and I feel like more true to him. I preferred Blue Neighbourhood to Bloom solely because it was more my style (indie over pop), but easy and this one he seems to have found the perfect balance between them, and it's so nice to see him be able to fully express himself as an openly gay man, but also to find his stride with HIS style.
He's always had happy sad music but lately he's taking it to a whole other level in his lil niche.
To all the teens listening to this that feels they missed out on a part of their life due to the pandemic, I wanna say:
You are the future, and I know you're young, and I know it's hard right now, but you can create a new vision, a new era of what it means to be young. As much as this pandemic has caused hurt, pain, and suffering, maybe it's a chance for a brand new start, for redefining societal trends and expectations. For the last few decades, being a teen meant, at least according to mainstream, partying, fast love, going crazy, broken hearts and bittersweet memories. But this could be the beginning of something new. You don't have to do those things to live your best teenage life, and I think ppl feel sad or that they've missed out or lonely because their lives don't fit those expectations of what it meant to be a teenager. But maybe after this pandemic, being a teen might mean creating shit in your room, being politically involved, helping your community, paying attention to bigger issues, spending time with your family, and zoom dates:)) Maybe it could mean finding joy in the smaller things. Not that you have to do these things, but maybe you could be the generation to make these things the "mainstream epitome" of teen life :))

This song makes me so sad because it reminds of how i didn't have all those cool memories from going to parties and stuff. I was obsessed with coming of age films and that classic teen nostalgia, but feel like i missed out on it😭 I did have a few good friends and we did have fun, but it still feels sad that we never experienced the classic teen film things that my friends and i were so obsessed with when it seemed like everyone did. It's like fomo but you know you already missed out. And now i feel like the same thing is gonna happen with my 20s/ early adulthood 😭
I feel the exact same. Sometimes i thought i may have largely wasted my teenage years, but now I'm 18 and I think that this is more like the time to just let loose. I was a completely different person each year from about 13 and the same will keep happening as an evolution, just like everyone else. You learn what you love and really go with it.

Seriously, high school was a terrible time for me and probably a lot of others, and the best time I had doing typical "teenager" things, was my first two years of college. TV shows and movies are fiction and place unrealistic expectations. Once you're out of the house, you have so much freedom. I don't want to go back to it, but 19 - 22 was absolutely insane. You have plenty of time, don't worry.
The media presents a distorted version of what high school is like but for most people it's definitely not how it is in movies. The people that actually lived like the characters in coming of age movies probably peaked in high school anyways. You literally have your whole life ahead of you
