I would have probably thought it was neat, but Tony didn't want to see his hero grow old. A lot of fans probably wouldn't, because then WE feel old, too.
As much as I've grown to dislike everything Tony does, it was kind of nice to leave Sting feeling somewhat immortal.

Old Man Sting sounds like a really cool concept, but I think it would've been a tough sell simply because of how timeless Sting was/is. I don't know if people would've liked seeing The Icon portrayed that way.

Eh, it's a cool idea, but it would be depressing to watch. The way he ended his career was the best way to do it. As a legend. He can still do it with surprise appearances here and there since he won't be actually wrestling though.
