I heard a reaction to this by an opera singer. How would you react to his comments? He said that Placido's voice is no longer what it once was, but he is 83 after all, so it's fine, but not peak Placido. Also, he says opera singers sing virbrato always, even on very short notes, and Dimash sometimes sings it straight, although he says Placido did do that a little as well (something he wouldn't have done in his prime). Finally, he says that Dimash's pronunciation of French is not so accurate (but it's true of many languages he sings in...his English has some articulation issues here and there). Any thoughts on these observations? In the end, he didn't want to diss Placido, but he felt it was important to point out that he's become old and the voice declines in age.

Being 84 and having lived a life of collecting beauty, I never expected to find anything like the musician and instrument that are Dimash. There are so many lessons in there but mainly, that no matter how much beauty you’ve experienced, there is always more that youve not known that is beyond the imagination. There are no limits. I’m so grateful to be alive at the same time as Dimash.
Would Western singers be jealous of Dimash's voice and talent?
To answer your question. Yes. Dimash is one of the greatest singers of all time even though he's still in his prime. All these Western Vocalists, let me put it lightly, THEY STRAIN, Dimash is a master of technique, a Male Minnie Riperton. He has revived combing operatta with modern music, Dimash has a unique tone that I quite like, it is like Whitney Houston ;soft yet obtrusive, even though, unlike Whitney, he's of the lighter voca, fach he can still make his voice as booming and emotive as a dramatic soprano. In my opinion here's how it is. From a rich and sexy strohbass, to a lyrical tenor, to whistle piercing coloratura soprano notes. He's my male vocal icon. But for all those people who don't like him, he doesn't care, he loves singing, even if it's just for his country, but I used to be jealous too until I came to appreciate his voice.
And also Dimash is wise and patient, it took him years to achieve the voice he has now, I have never heard a hint of strain in his voice.
Is Dimash the best singer alive?
The answer to this is very subjective. When you ask who the “best” singer is, what are you asking?
    the most skilled?
    the widest range?
    the best sounding?
Dimash Kudaibergen is a highly skilled vocalist with his voice spanning about 6 octaves, he has great versatility in his singing ranging from traditional, pop, opera, ballads, etc.
But the real answer is up to you!
    He is truly amazing!

Domingo's grandson first introduced his grandfather to Dimash.
Interestingly enough, Dimash was introduced to the Maestro through a VHS his family had obtained, at age five.
That was the same year Dimash began his classical training and that VHS of Maestro Domingo is what made Dimash decide to become a singer.
Now, they have met in person and performed together. A dream from age 5 for Dimash.

Domingo is 83 and he’s STILL crushing it. He will always be one of the greatest operatic tenors to grace the stage. If Dimash were to choose to sing opera at this point I have no doubt he would also rank among the greatest after a long career.
Thanks for pointing out the professional courtesy these guys are showing each other as they sing (Dimash stepping back from the mic, etc.)
You’re right that opera has to change. Today’s young audience might really take it in if it’s spooned out in TikTok reels and shorts here on RUclips. Small doses to pique interest-that might eventually get them to show up in the opera house and hear it the way it’s meant to be sung. It will take some real marketing to get them to want to hear songs sung in other languages and written not just a few decades but in many cases a couple centuries ago.
Thanks for this reaction-I really appreciate your analysis of techniques as well as your enjoyment of the music.

Hola. Saludos 🇨🇷❤️🇰🇿

I’m just a music fan who likes many genres, including opera. The Pearl Fishers Duet is one of my absolute favorites. It’s just beautiful. I think the first time I heard it was in a scene from the movie Gallipoli when the Australian army officer has been ordered to send his men out into what he knows will be a hopeless battle. It was incredibly sad and this song was perfect for the scene. So moving! Anyway, I loved your reaction. Very balanced, professional, and informative. Dimash is a very highly educated musician. He studied classical music with emphasis on opera vocals, and when he graduated with honours, was offered a place at the Astana Opera. He respectfully declined the offer as he wanted to expand his knowledge and went on to University to study contemporary pop and Jazz, both with the emphasis on vocals, again he passed with honours. He then went on to take his Masters degree in composition, he passed with a score of 100%. He is at present studying for his doctorate. Dimash as you can see is a passionate believer in a good grounding in musical knowledge and he has been in education since he was discovered to have absolute pitch, at the age of 5 and went to music school attached to his university in Aktobe.
Hee has worked with so many different composers and singers throughout his career, he plays several instruments and is an excellent composer. He is a workaholic perfectionist and this duet came after he was invited to be a judge at the Virtuosos competition for young classical musicians in Budapest, Hungary. Placido was very excited to meet Dimash after his 18 year old grandson showed him one of Dimash's videos on RUclips. When they met Placido immediately asked him if they could sing a duet together. They had one day to rehearse and this gorgeous duet was born. Thank you for such a beautiful reaction to this piece, I am so happy to be alive to see him. I plan to go to his big concert this year to celebrate his milestone 30th birthday on May 24th in Istanbul, Turkey. That is my dream to hear his wonderful voice in the flesh. There are commenters who really disapprove of anyone saying that Dimash can or does sing opera. They say his operatic voice is weak, that he always uses a mic and that true opera singers don't, they say he might have been offered a place at the Opera House in Astana but he wasn't particularly good, that he has a thin voice unsuited to it etc etc. I suspect they have not listened to Dimash singing in other genres much, if at all, or listened to his voice lately, with all it's richness, fullness and incredible power. If they had done so they would never say his voice was thin or weak. His voice is so powerful that he reins it in a lot of the time, and when he doesn't rein it in he blasts you out of your seat. He doesn't want to be limited to opera, but he HAS been classically trained for years and continues to train every single day. He knows the classical techniques and uses them when he wants to to enhance his performance and to introduce the audience to something they may not have heard before, especially in contemporary music. He is bridging the gap between classical and pop, and as far as I'm concerned he is doing a great service to both genres in doing so. There are few people in the world who can or will make that bridge, who have that kind of courage to step into the no man's land. He is opening the eyes of the public worldwide to the classical sound and he shouldn't ever be criticised for doing so. Opera fanatics who hate his operatic-style voice can go listen to someone else. Dimash may not be for them and that is fine. He already has a lot of fans who appreciate exactly what he does right now, and the number is growing all the time. The old style is not always the only style with value. Things change. The world of music needs change, it needs innovation. Dimash brings that, just like Eminem did for hip hop. Eminem still has his haters as a white man singing black music, but you have to admit he has changed the face of that genre forever. That's what Dimash does. He changes the face of music, and we support him in doing it. It's about time the barriers between classical and contemporary were broken and the two were interweaved to form something new and amazing and beautiful. Everyone can appreciate what he does if they just lose the fixed ideas about what is and what is not 'allowed'. There are no barriers in music. It's universal, and everything can be enjoyed for exactly what is it.

He is clasically trained (graduated in Classical Music with a major in vocal, also graduated in Contemporary Music with a major in vocal and graduated with a master's degree in Composition.) He got offered a position at the Astana Opera but declined

Thank you for your reaction to this historical moment in time where Dimash and the great legend Placido that he so admires, collaborated in this wonderful duet. Dimash is classically trained and was offered a place in a famous opera organization at the end of his classical studies but turned it down for a career in contemporary music. There is no genre that Dimash cannot perform and shine. He’s just extraordinary!

Hello Nick, I loved your reaction, we know that Dimash graduated in operatic singing, bel canto and was invited to stay at the Astana opera house but he preferred to pursue a solo career considering himself a neo-classical singer, a crossover. And that's how we met him when he participated in the competition in China and became for us the admirable and unparalleled best singer in the world.
He is so considered by the best singing teachers in all Asian countries.
In the West he is still almost unknown but loved by fan clubs in more than 160 countries.
Dimash vibrates at the frequency of love, peace, wisdom, humility and respect among all nations where he performs his concerts. He is a peace ambassador appointed by Kazakhstan for his humanitarian work, a tradition inherited from his parents against hunger and support for needy children and in favor of peace between peoples.

Placido Domingo, born Jan. 21, 1941 and Dimash, born May 24, 1994 singing this classic duet on December 10, 2023. So there's 53 years between them, let that sink in for a moment. Placido's voice is still wonderful at age 82 in this clip. Maestro Placido Domingo was of course 1 of the Three Tenors (with Luciano Pavarotti and Jose Carreras). Here's a clip of him from Dimash's year of birth 1994, when he was 53: ruclips.net/video/nR6CIYgEJbE/видео.html and an undated one ruclips.net/video/5-AF1T4OehM/видео.html Puccini: Tosca, "E lucevan le stelle"
Dimash is a singer from Kazakhstan with an almost 7 octave range (he will turn 30 in May). Besides having an enormous vocal range, Dimash also sings in multiple languages, in multiple styles and is a multi instrumentalist. Please also react to a compilation of Dimash playing multiple instruments: ruclips.net/video/FyWuFaNK_7g/видео.html and Olimpico/Ogni Pietra: a modern operatic piece with a great jungle drumbeat and fantastic lightshow ruclips.net/video/dkPS6t84qg4/видео.html A more classical piece with female singers Lara Fabian and Aida Garifulina, Ti Amo Cosi: ruclips.net/video/XaQFfqC3lnU/видео.html Then there's a movie score called Across Endless Dimensions in which his adlibs can easily rival with any heavy metal guitar solo ruclips.net/video/9efIWFhD8a4/видео.html Also watch the Queen medley he did with the Super Vocal Boys, in which he does some distorted rock screams and especially pay attention to the very last note he sings in the medley, which he starts as the first of the 4 singers, but ends the last, it's amazing: ruclips.net/video/f3nklZEstm0/видео.html

Just to add to my previous comment. Dimash was offered a place to join Kazakhstan's ooera house. He declined because hexwanted to be free to explore all genres n create more. Dimash IS a trained ooera singer. Dimash only knew the day b4 this performance that he would be sining this, so had very little time to get to know it. But thsts not unusual for him. The day b4 his Arminion concert, he eas asked to perfotm a Arminion song. Again never hving spoken Aminion b4, he lesrned an arminion song in less than a day, never having sung in that language b4. Remarkable.

Who is Dimash? I, and a few others, call him the singer of the millennia because the range of musical genres, and his vocal range, 7.7 octaves, are like no other. From Kazakhstan, beginning his singing career at age 5 (he's 29 now, 2023), Dimash was accepted into the most distinguished music academy in his country. The world became aware of him in 2017 (when he was 22), during and after a Chinese singing contest called "Singer". His first digital music album "ID" went platinum in only 37 seconds after release, and 3x platinum in only one hour, and 5x platinum in only one day on Chinese music platforms In December 2019, he made his US debut in New York at the Barclays Center. Dears (those he calls his fans) traveled from 68 different countries, 43 states & 2 US territories, and was sold out. Now writing his Doctoral thesis for a PhD in Musicology/ Composing, received all his degrees with honors while simultaneously filling arenas and maintaining his performing career, a first! He has a bachelors degree in vocals, a master's degree in composition and is about to complete his PhD in musicology this year (2023).
Dimash sings in 14 languages, plays 7+ musical instruments, is a composer, an amazing vocalist, patriot, philanthropist and, despite his popularity and talent, is a very warm and humble person.

I recently saw an interview with Dimash speaking English (so adorable) and he was sharing that he heard Placido sing when he was five years old and knew that one day he would sing with him. He was in Budapest and expressed how he loved Budapest.
This performance was a dream come true for Dimash 🥰
I grew up listening (I’m 66) to the three tenors and all the great singers right from Enrico Caruso who was the first person to have his voice recorded (1903 I think) on “His Master’s Voice” phonogram. He later did a recording with Dame Nellie Melba I think in 1929. Dame Nellie was from Australia where I am from.
My personal favourite singer was Ivan Rebroff who I actually met three times because he loved coming to Australia.
When I heard Dimash singing SOS at Slavic Bazaar I was an instant Dear and I believe Dimash is the best singer ever because of his incredible range, sweetness, passion, devotion, humility and love for humanity.
Not to take away anything from all other incredible artists because that would be unfair and wrong.
It happens that Dimash is my personal favourite.
I also love Igor Krutoy for obvious reasons.
All these artists are exceptional performers who practice and give their all to the music and the audience ❤❤❤
My daddy who has been gone now for many years absolutely loved the greats and he said music and singing like that filled his heart and soul with love and I truly agree with him.
Thank you for your wonderful explanations and it’s beautiful to see someone so touched by musical beauty.
I personally can’t sing so I really appreciate others who can. ❤

👉 The world stands still for this moment and everyone holds their breath. A singing teacher calls them the two musical titans...yes, yes, yes! This duet was Dimash's dream and it is coming true. What an honor for our beloved Dimash and a great joy for Maestro Domingo…. And I was bathed in tears of joy. I'm sooo happy.
Dimash was asked to participate as a judge in the Young Classical Musicians Competition... and then... he gifted us Dears with this wonderful jewel: Maestro Domingo invited Dimash to sing a duet with him -
Maestro Domingo invited Dimash to sing the duet with him the day before. Dimash only had a short night to learn this song in French... and what's more, Dimash had a cold with a cough. (You notice it more in the second song at the end of the event.)
Dimash is well-mannered and respectful. He would never overpower Maestro Domingo (82 at this time) with his voice. He even adjusts with the color of his voice.
Dimash opens a new world to many Dears... the world of classical music. You should definitely watch the video (at the end of the comment)... so many young, talented musicians and the sensitive assessment of the jurors... Great!!! ... and at the end the legendary duet of Maestro Domingo and Dimash Qudaibergen!

I understand that Dimash's parents were both opera singers and taught him belcanto
from very young age. He started to show his incredible talent and astounding wide
range when he was like 12 or 13 where his popularity took off in Kazakhstan.
At that point he chose to become more pop oriented vocalist but never gave up on
    his bases of classical technic.
later on when he won competition after competition whenever and wherever he entered
but they were held in Eastern Europe mostly that's why we in the west didn't find his fame
till much later. Yes he has an inhumane vocal range like it goes higher and higher.
Placido Domingo has been world's leading tenor who was my favorite tenor with
incredible depth, breadth and warmth in his voice.
He is a legend for so many decades as well as conductor of LA symphony besides
teaching promising young talents world wide.
At 83 he's taken on baritone part to support Dimash here but his unique voice really surprised me with such gorgeous resonance like he's never lost it.

Dimash got his degree in Classical (Bel Canto) when he was 20. He studied Classical from 16 to 20 yo. This was the most classical setting and performance that we`ve seen him in. And the vocal technique closest to classical throughout a whole song/piece. It was not 100% classical, but then again Domingo was also a bit less than classical in this performance. Placido got to know of Dimash thru his grandson. They - Placido and Dimash - met and Dimsh was invited to sing with Placido as well as to join the Judges Panel in the virtuoso competition. (I don't really know when the invitation to Dimash was made, but I think it was after the grandson mentioned Dimash to his grandad, or it could have been Hasuer, the cellist because they knew each other too) Placido said to Dimash that he no longer sang tenor as he could not reach those higher notes. Dimash learned the song in a day, and he had a cold too.
Dimash told Placido that he Dimash, came to singing because he heard Plaicido as a child and that he was his hero. And that it was a long-standing dream of Dimash to meet and sing with Placido. Wonderful eh?
Most of the judges of the competition performed on stage.. Its worth taking a look at the competition the youngsters were amazing.

Domingo requested Dimash sing this piece with him. Dimash agreed and had 24 hours notice to learn the melody and lyrics of this piece. Not a bad job, I would say. I have heard many people sing vibrato over my long life, but never have heard a more perfect vibrato as has Dimash. I forgot to mention Dimash does not speak French so his pronouncment is not correct in some instances, but hey, what the heck, this piece was golden.

Placido Domingo junior saw Dimash on RUclips one day and said " Dad you have to see and hear this guy ". And Placido said after listening to Dimash, " I have to and want to meet and record with him. What a honour from one of the greatest tenor's who's ever lived to want to meet and record with him.

Sir, Dimash was firmly trained classically. This is his bread and butter.

Excelent anlysis of this great performance, thank you very much. Dimash can sing whatever he wants, I would dare to say that he can sing all the parts of an opera, baritono, tenor and soprano, and then get off the piano octaves.😅❤

I've been listening to Dimash for almost 4 years. And all these years I dreamed that he would sing with one of the pillars of world opera. Finally my dream came true! It was great!

11:57 still watching but.... both Dimash and maestro Domingo were judges in that competition for young artists, and in finale of that competition they sang together. whole show was transmitted in national TV in some countries in Europe and also on YT

Thank you for this knowledgeable reaction, Nick! 😊❤
It’s great to hear explanations from singers, who have actually sung this aria themselves and know the skills required. 😎
I learned something new. So thank you so much for that. ❤
Virtuosos 4+ is a competition for very young musicians (the youngest contestant was 6 or 7 years old). So it would have been weird if Plácido Domingo and Dimash competed. 😂
They were two of the judges and this was a guest performance. They had met only a day earlier for the first time ever and Domingo asked Dimash if he wanted to sing with him.
So they had only one day to decide on the song, learn it, and I believe there was only one rehearsal previously…😳
And this came out of it. 🔥 I‘m still tearing up occasionally, even after hearing this many many times! 😭🥰❤️
Looking forward to more Dimash reactions from you. 😊

Dimash started out with classical training. There shouldn't be any surprise as to how accomplished he sounds even next to Domingo. Dimash was offered jobs at Opera Houses and said no. I'm kind of glad he did. He's able to chart his own career rather than being pigeon-holed and he's got such an extraordinary voice (and easy to listen to!). I really think that Dimash captures the spirit of what 'world music' is, but he just makes himself more relevant with each page he tears out of the boring old system. Truly extraordinary artist. Thank you so much for giving him some attention!
