I don't know where anyone would get "ugly" about this product. It looks like a refined hub that matches the footprint of the new M4 mini exactly. What are you complaining about. I just upgraded to a Mini, M4 Pro, 64 GB, 2TB, and I want/need this hub for USB-A on the front, and the ability to have a 4TB time machine drive integrated into the hub. Looks terrific and exactly what I was hoping for. Can't wait to buy it.
@@TecraX2 Great point. Would be cool if they had a little thing on the back side that let you use the on button easier. Not a big deal since I never turn off a mac, but still would be a nice touch.
IMO, this is basically a "Must Have" accessory for anyone buying a Mac Mini (same with the old hub). Not only does it provide additional ports and storage options at a reasonable price, but having the Mac's air intake raised from table/desk should help combat dust clogging up the machine!
I raised my M4 Mac mini off the table by sitting it on top of my Apple DVD burner. That allowed the mini to sit far enough back to the rear to clear the power button, making it very easy to press with no need to lift it up. The dvd burner being made of aluminium means they match very well. 🏴
I've been waiting for this before even considering buying the new Mini. One note about the M2 NvME dock, though, the throughput speed was nowhere near what the on-board SSD's is since it's transferring over USB (even though it is USB-C). So pay extra and get more storage on the Mini even if you plan to use this Satechi.
I can’t understand why they don’t make a 40Gbs version of these devices. Why not make the NVME expansion way more useful and let the hub expand your Tb4 capabilities?
Cost. It's about 100 bucks, look at TB4 hubs, and imagine a TB5 hub.. I had a TB3 enclosure, and it was 350 bucks. It's a lot easier to sell a 100 dollar addon than a 300 dollar one. If it was for the studio, they could get away with it. But to almost double the cost of the mini for a hub? Doubt it would sell well at all.
@@arudanel5542perhaps but then have another tier for people who actually know what they are ordered/want. I find the marketing of these devices to be misleading since so many people complain about the speed. “Blazing fast 10gbps speeds”.
I picked up the GEWOKLIY hub that has the NVMe and Sata 2.5 inch interface, since I had both drive I wanted to installed. All I can say is I am pleased to see they added an additional power usb c port because with those two drives, a USB 3 sata external drive, USB keyboard and USB Mouse, I needed the additional power.
When I bought my Mac mini M4 1Tb model, I looked to see if Satechi had a docking station for it, just like the one I had for my M1 Mac mini. Then, there wasn’t one so I bought a uGreen 13 in 1 docking station which I like very much… not as neat a solution but it’s compact enough. 🏴
Even for most the people 256GB of storage won't be enough. The family photos and videos and music. That takes place. Especially if you want to rip your music cds to flac for example.
They need to put a notch on the left rear corner to make it easier to get to the power button. Maybe they could have a rotating corner piece so if you don't use the power button that often you can have a more smooth look.
Does it come in a Thunderbolt 4 version, since it will take up a Thunderbolt port, anyway? If so, does it have a pass-through Thunderbolt port? What sort of drive(s) can you put in it? I'd find it less than ideal if it has only one drive bay, or if it is just USB 3.1. What sort of cooling does it employ?
Definitely not ugly. Actually it’s too clean. Needs 2 USB-A ports on the back. 2-3 full size DP ports would be nice too. Passthrough Thunderbolt and Ethernet should round out the list.
I knew that this would be coming. But im keeping my old one, I just used a longer cable and 3d printed some mounts for it to mount under my desk. now I have 4TB storage and usb a for my mic and camera and all you see is my mini. cheaper, sleeker, and works great.
Although I like the look and the SD reader, I would go with a T4 dock. Limiting the speed to USB is a deal killer for me. And as others have noted, having a extra T4 post on the back would be nice
I had no doubt these would be coming out soon after how many there were with the old style of the Mac Mini. I have the M1 model and I purchased one of these (different brand) because it included what was then a less common feature, the storage expansion. It cleared a lot of clutter from my desk and looks great because it looks like part of the Mac Mini. I am considering the upgrade but not until this is available.
I have mac mini m2 with Satechi hub, it looks nice and it is helpfull in terms of extention of usb ports and storage too. This new mac mini looks good reminds me on little brother of mac sfudio ,so why it could not have similar hub.
It looks quite fine to me. I might get one for the SSD and the USB-A ports. (I don't need the card reader, but I know many other people would get a lot of use out of one)
This gives me an idea… for a Mac mini hub that looks like G4 Mac Cube. The hub would actually be on top so the bottom vents would be open for ventilation. It would look like a mini G4 Cube when said and done.
Yes, I was wondering if Satechi was going to create this product for the new Mac Mini. Great to see it is coming in Spring 2025. For the old M2 Mac Mini, we purchased the the version of the Satechi shown for the M2 Mac Mini. Now that we just purchased the M4 Mac Mini, I’d like to get this new version Satechi hub. Nice product. Matches the Mac Mini style and really like that it has a compartment underneath for the upgradeable M.2 SSD module.
Lots of people need usb A for dongles for keyboards and mice, and sdcard reader is very useful for many. Nobody is going to get on with 256 GB, so some sort of storage addon is pretty much essential. This might be less janky than some other options. I think a good thunderbolt dock is probably the way I’d go, but it depends a lot on your setup and budget. But it’s not a solution looking for a problem. Apple created the problem by charging $400 extra for 1tb storage, and removing usb A.
They should have a plastic piece underneath the power button and have the Mac mini position onto a spring so you can just press down on the Mac mini to turn it on and off
If there will be at least 2 Thunderbolt on the back then probably home run. If only a data connector to the Mac Mini on back no home run. Maybe 1st base.
I was hoping someone would do this. I like the idea.... I'd really love if Apple had a dock connector for the bottom so stuff like this could just drop in and pull off too, but this would look really nice on a desk, I think. Amazon doesn't have it yet so I await their prices.
I can run os on an my external drive completely separated and run video editing apps. Music recording apps with heaps of plug-in’s all that stuff you hear. Yes it works, but just be aware, I’ll say this very clearly, no external HD is as good as or even faster as some people claim than the internal drive. Do a read write speed test with the black magic app or whatever, you’ll see its absolute night and day
I attached the Satechi Mac Mini M1 version to my MAC Studio and set up a partition on a 4TB NVME to use one partition for my Time Machine backup. Worked flawlessly and looking forward to using the same process on my Mac mini pro.
I think I get what you mean when you say it's ugly. It might've looked better if they'd made all the USB ports vertical like how they are on the mac mini. I can't unsee how the two USB-C ports look like "eyes" and the SD card slot makes a "mouth" 🤣
Ideally it should also have DP/HDMI port on the back, along with 2x SSD slots (at least 1x nvme for home folders & 1x for Time-Machine) and thunderbolt-4 connector to Mac mini.
The issue is .... for just a few more dollars at apple they could have added a m.2 slot on the bottom and a few usb A ports. instead the milk the base for more money for minor storage upgrades. or make you buy aftermarket devices like this...
I think Apple reworked the Mac mini into a Studio starter so that next year they can hit another home run by putting the M5 in the studio and make it even more modular, if they choose to and really grow their user base. Then in late 2025 revamp the Mac Pro case where you can install multiple Mac minis and network them as one machine that would work as a server for prosumer businesses. My thoughts only
The Raycue design looks better and has the ports I want (more C, less A, mostly 10 Gbps, no usb 2.0) so Satechi is going to have to price this one competitively. Its biggest downfall is the delayed release of March. Those of us with the M4 are looking for something now. I think most will settle for a stand and a normal usb-c hub to see who else comes out with a hub like this but sooner rather than later we're going to hit that buy button.
And how do you reach the power button? I have the basic hub for my older Mini, no drive, and it works great. I bought a hub because I wanted front ports so the new hub with ports makes a lot of sense.

Should be a fine hub is you don't want/need thunderbolt speed.
Using this, how would somebody turn it on? Isn't the power button on the bottom??
YESTERDAY the web bot said it was coming soon so I went a different direction because my Mini will be here early next week.
I will be buying an M4 mini and I will get this new Saechi expansion hub.
I see a hub with obsolete USB A ports on the front which requires USB C to USB A dongles to use.
I had the previous one for the Mac mini M2, but it came defective out of the box, the front panel USB C ports didn’t worked, and then it fried my NVME after a few months. They do give me my money back, but I wouldn’t buy another of the same brand.
But why a USB 2.0 port in the front? It should just be a USB 3 port.
Where is the link to the product?
How come you said there is no problem for most people for this? It is no problem if you have money to pay apple for 4tb mempry … many people dont
Why is it taking so long to come out?
It can’t replace my TB Dock.
