    I love the way you have this video timestamped into "chapters" so that it is possible to watch, then find specific parts of M15 & F23's actions to re-watch. I have not watched eagles over a season before, have only popped in on occasion, so some of their behaviors are new to me. Thank you very much for your video and narrative! It looks like these eagles are preparing a lovely nest and making sure it is as safe and comfy as possible. When they test their nest near the end of the video, they look quite well-fitted to the shape. We will see if some minor (or more) adjustments are made before they lay their precious eggs. They are a lovely pair, and seem to communicate very well with each other. ✨💕✨

      Hello Rosalindy thank you so much for checking out the chapters and timestamps! I try to include those because people sometimes don't have time to watch the whole video. This way you can click on the ts and be taken right to the action! They will make the nest ready for eggs in plenty of time at this rate!!! Take care!!

    In the preserve near where I live (Galt Preserve, Pine Island, Florida, about 15 miles from the home of M15 and F23) many of the trees were hit hard by the hurricane last week. Unfortunately, one of them was the tree where a pair of eagles have nested in recent years. The top of the tree is gone, and with it the nest. Hopefully the nesting pair will find a new tree not far from here to build a nest.

    • @ladyhawk
      @ladyhawk  2 дня назад

      I am so sorry to hear of this tree and eagle nest being destroyed! I hope they will find a new tree close by. Thankfully there were no eggs or chicks!

    Love seeing them work together. I worry about that buried log. Last year F23 was very vigorous in her incubating when it came to her brood patch getting over the eggs just right. She is a larger female and her weight has got to impact the eggs. I think she is partly why the second egg last season collapsed as fast as it did, her vigorous body shimmies when she settled in the nest. Praying for LOTS more fluff before eggs. Makes me wonder if we will see eggs earlier this season 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ M15 needs to rework those rails lol !!! This is my favorite nest ever🦅💙🦅💜

    • @naomisgram1
      @naomisgram1 3 дня назад +1

      I think the log is pretty buried by now, and they will be bringing in more grass most likely. The log might actually work to stabilize the center of the nest

  • @lim9623

    I wonder if laying in the nest bowl three times is a charm for our Magnificent M?!!! 😂 The nest is looking good at this point despite the log and numerous puzzle sticks!! I think they need more fluff!! Hopeful for two beautiful eggs soon.

  • @RickMertz-p4p
    @RickMertz-p4p 3 дня назад +8

    My theory on the big log at the bottom of the nest bowl was for hurricane season for added extra weight

    • @Nan-ss1mz
      @Nan-ss1mz 3 дня назад +5

      Yes! I've believed all along that F23 had a reason for that log. She spent countless hours on that nest last season and she knows what it needs. Trust the Eagles! 🦅💖

      HI Rick well than F23 must be psychic!! She brought the log in on Sept 8th. Hurricane Milton hit on Oct 9th!! 😊

      @Nan-ss1mz 2 дня назад

      @@ladyhawk Wasn't that one of the first sticks (I mean Log 😄) that F23 brought to the nest? Whatever her reason, she wanted it in there first so it could be covered with lots of sticks & fluff. She's one smart determined eagle! M15 sure knows how to pick them! ❤🦅🦅♥ And Happy (belated) Birthday LadyHawk!! Your videos & explanations are the Best!!!

    Thank you for the wonderful commentary and beautiful video, Lady Hawk. Couldn't some kind person remove that horrible log? Concerned it would break the eggs . . .

    • @ladyhawk
      @ladyhawk  3 дня назад +2

      Hello Stuart you are most welcome!!! Unfortunately no one can legally remove the log The USFWS would only allow that an item be removed from a nest if it was a man made object and that object could cause immediate harm to the eagles. The log was brought in by F23 and is a natural part of the nest building materials. Items like fishing line, plastics or even something like a chick getting trapped underneath something could be cause for removal by the USFWS. The log is getting covered with grasses and moss. They will bring in a lot more before egg laying - it should be ok. ♥

    I didn't know 😊
    How long can eagles leave eggs unattended?
    Eggs can't be left alone for more than about 20-30 minutes before chilling, even less time if a cold or wet day.
    Thank you Lady Hawk (my spell checker knows your name - lol)! ❤😁

    • @ladyhawk
      @ladyhawk  3 дня назад +6

      Hello Echo actually eggs can be left alone for periods of time with no adverse affects. When the egg is first laid, the female will usually engage in Delayed Incubation where she deliberately does not incubate much. The embryo had not started forming so there is no risk to it. And by delaying incubation of that first egg (or more), that will allow the eggs to hatch closer together which is good so there is less sibling rivalry. But overall, once incubation begins, the eagles do tend to keep the eggs covered but can take breaks especially in FL where it is warm. If we were talking about a colder climate then any extended period away from the eggs could stop them from developing and being non viable. Even 20-30 minutes in temps below freezing can affect them - plus rain as you mentioned. The humidity can be a factor too - that is why you will see F23 & M15 standing over the eggs at times - it allows air flow to reduce the humidity which can penetrate the egg shell. Great questions Echo thank you! ♥

      @@ladyhawk Omgosh! You're better than the internet Lady Hawk!!!
      I remember how much you know (smiling as I type here)...
      It's utterly amazing how these defenseless little chicks grow into powerful raptors - king of the skies!
      Well! This was certainly an informative 'visit'...! I can't get over your knowledge!!!
      How long have you been in the 'eagle game'? If that's not too personal.
      Since I have you for a quick moment, is it my imagination or do M15 and F23 have slight variations in their feather colors?
      I don't remember this being the case with Harriett and M15. It kinda surprised me.
      Take care my eagle friend, Lady Hawk! 🪶

      @@Echo_1174 You are welcome Echo! I started watching the eagles with Harriet and Ozzie in 2013 season one! Then it just branched out to NEFL and other nests around the world + other raptors and birds. What do you mean about the variations in feather colors? Most eagles are dark brown. Maybe it is the time of day and computer monitor screen resolution - I am not sure. ♥
