At the National Horse Show in the old Madison Square Garden in the early 1950s, I watched Hope Montgomery Scott give a side-saddle equitation demonstration. She rode a hunter over a course of jumps, whilst leading another (riderless) horse. Not an easy feat. An elegant, faultless ride. She was a supremely competent horsewoman; also judged hunters at the National many times.
