I've been to professional and college games in all sports... NOTHING compares to a college game. The excitement, the play, the fans... it's just on an entirely different level. A college stadium will be absolutely deafeningly loud... and you can see it energize the home team. It is completely insane and if you ever can, pick a big college rivalry game and go. Enjoy the whole day of events. Tailgating, the atmosphere, the game, all of it.

PS You completely misinterpreted what Millie meant when she said it was "their song". She was just referring to the fact that at the end of the school year(in case you didn't know, she's a teacher) her school, on the little channel isle of Jersey, sing that song. So basically, she wasn't stating that it was their song as in a proprietary way, just it was the school's traditional song for those young matriculaters.👍

The Boston anthem one has a story. That was the first sports event held in Boston after the Boston marathon bombing. To my knowledge at that time the suspects were still at large and the city was in a state of fear. That was a city and a state coming together saying NO we will not be intimidated by terror. That no matter what we are the land of the free!!!!!

Close. It was actually (on accident) started by Amy Tobey, Director of Music in 1997 at Fen Way Park. The song would be played periodically between the 7th and 8th innings, if the team was winning. The song originally chosen because a friend for Amy had just given birth to a daughter they had named Caroline.
In 2002 it became a "tradition". But, yes, after the bombing and the first game played, Neil Dimond did do a live performance.

To give you an additional to the Tennessee part of that clip, when your in Knoxville on a game day and not down at the stadium, the town is almost like a ghost town it's so deserted. You have the 102k+ fans in the stadium plus you have another 200k+ fans just outside the stadium in the parking lots, and on Ft. Loudon Lake , for a 1/2 mile either side of the stadium and all the way across the lake in their various types of boats, all tied up to each other, all "tailgaiting" and watching the game on giant TV's hooked up to their vehicles or generators, all while cooking on BBQ's, and drinking, and generally having a ton of fun with other fans. And they sing along with the fans in the stadium as well, so when you have 300k+ people all singing it can be heard form quite a ways away... I remember as a kid being able to hear the singing from the stadium at our house about 10 miles away from the stadium, now it was not clear, but you could hear when the were singing, and when UT scored, especially when UT scored, the blast of sound that would come out of that stadium when they scored even from 10 miles away was deafening. Great memories of growing up in Knoxville, thanks for the stroll down memory lane.

I lived in Norman, Oklahoma for several years. That’s where the University of Oklahoma is located (Boomer Sooner chant in the video). I lived several miles away north of the university. You can see the stadium from just about anywhere in the city and on game days I could stand on the balcony of my apartment and hear the crowd. If you go down to campus it’s definitely a party atmosphere there and outside the stadium. Lots of fun! I’ll admit that since I am not a big fan of crowds, going to games inside a stadium can be overwhelming. High school sports games can be raucous like college sports games, but on a smaller scale. I certainly wasn’t prepared for the scale of the college games since I had only ever been to elementary school sports games, junior high/middle school sports games, high school sports games, and professional sports games. I was expecting it to be more like the professional sports games, but college sports are much, much, much bigger. I don’t remember there even being any empty seats and the crowd is excited and the stadiums do a great job of keeping them hyped up via the cheerleaders, bands, mascots, music, and more! It’s fun once you get used to it, but a tad overwhelming at first. Everyone is great and talkative and having a great time, regardless of the score. I definitely recommend you going to a college game next time your in the states.
Does the school where you work have any sports? You said your niece wants to be a cheerleader. The schools around where I live generally have sports for the different levels of education: elementary, middle, high school. High school sports are popular and covered in the local media alongside college and professional sports. When my niece was in elementary school the high school sponsors a mini-cheer team whereby kiddos from the elementary school learn some cheers with the middle school and high school cheer teams and then during halftime they get to perform a routine together for the crowd. By the time my niece got to high school she was in marching band and they had coordinated some routines with music (my niece is a senior this year and graduates in May). When my sister and I were in high school there wasn’t much coordination between the band and the mini-cheer team. We did coordinate with the high school cheer team, though, for some parts of their routines. If you were to go to a high school game you’d realize that American high schools and sports are basically borrowing from American colleges. We have mascots, team colors, school fight songs, traditions, and in some cases literally borrow from the high schools. The school district I went to the very first “marching” song you learn in elementary marching band is the Michigan fight song (and this is in Oklahoma....a long way from Michigan). The school’s fight song that you start learning in junior high and then are expected to memorize in high school band is a combination of parts from the college songs: “Rambling Wreck From Georgia Tech” and “Our Director”. My high school has a school flag that gets waved at games along with cowbells and other things that get rang or waved to keep the noise level high and of course people go crazy with those things when our team scores! So basically in the US you pretty much grow up ready for college sports and even folks that don’t go to college watch college sports. I remember many family gatherings when I was younger that fell on Saturdays in autumn and there’d be college football on tv all day with family members from various states cheering on the colleges from their states, chanting the chants, and just having a lot of fun. Yeah there’s rivalries, but it’s all in good fun! I have a friend that lives in Stillwater, Oklahoma home of Oklahoma State University. Her husband works at the college in the sports department and also coaches little league sports in the city. When OSU and OU play against each other, neither of us being native to Stillwater or Norman, she cheers on OSU and I cheer on OU, but whenever either of then play Texas or Kansas or some other state’s teams we cheer on the home team whichever it is! I work with a lady who is from Iowa and she cheers on Iowa colleges even though she lives in Oklahoma currently. Same with the coworkers I have who moved here from Arizona, Maryland, Colorado, etc. They still cheer on their home state’s teams (but have a fave amongst them or is their alma mater).
    Great video!!
Oh, since I didn’t mention it. My high school’s colors were/are maroon, white, black, and gold. The mascot is the mustang. I still remember the school song, too:
    P-I-O-N-E-E-R
    M-U-S-T-A-N-G
A Pioneer Mustang is what I’m proud to be
I gotta be, have to be the best there ever was
    P-I-O-N-E-E-R
    M-U-S-T-A-N-G
(First part sung to opening part of Rambling Wreck From Georgia Tech followed by a drum sequence that then leads to the rest of the song sung to Our Director)
Let’s give a rising cheer fans for Pioneer High
And loyal spirit that shall never die
    SHALL NEVER DIE!
    Come on let’s fight together
    Fight ‘til the end
On your feet for P-H-S we’re out to win
    Fight! Fight! Fight!
And of course I know the Boomer Sooner song! (you can literally look it up). I also know some other fight songs or traditional songs from universities/colleges in other states, too, due to having family and friends that live there or are from there. I think most Americans probably know several from similar reasons.

In Europe, a Soccer/Football match is a war between fans. There is an atmosphere of aggression not just on the field but also in the stands. It's like two criminal street gangs about to face off in a rumble. After the match you go to the pub and get drunk and maybe have a bar fight if you didn't get enough violence at the game.
In America, a Football game is a celebration. It starts with food and drink during the tailgate party before the game. It continues with the songs and chants and the pageantry of the traditions during the game. The halftime shows with the bands are like a parade in the middle of the game. At the tailgate after, you sit under canopies in the parking lots with friends and family (including small children) discussing the game and watching the other games on televisions powered by generators. When it's time to leave, you do not want to go. And you spend the next week anticipating and planning for the next game so you can see all your friends again. It is a celebration of life.

I'm a huge Michigan football fan- there's nothing like going to a game at the Big House (3rd largest stadium in the world, largest outside of Asia). It may not be the loudest stadium in the country, due to the shape of it, but the design allows terrific views of the field regardless of where you're sitting. Michigan are the winningest team in the history of college football.

Hey Beasleys, I heard while watching the Michigan football game tonight that they've had over 100,000 in attendance for 312 straight games. They only play 12 games per year, maybe only a little half of which are at home. That means it's been probably going on for 40 or 50 years like that. Be aware that if you DO go Michigan vs Ohio State, or anywhere up north and n October or November, it's probably going to be cold and maybe raining or snowing. And August or September will be hot and probably a little muggy. And most Stadiums are outdoors. Just FYI in case you guys go sometime. Probably still worth it. Haven't been myself yet. Only been to NFL games so far.

A fun time is at UGA or Alabama and you have to get there early enough to go to the tailgating parties before the games. So let’s say, 10am for tailgating or earlier. BTW, look up some tailgating videos for college games. You’ll love it.

Just some notes behind Auburn and Alabama with the Rammer Jammer and Reverse Rammer Jammer.
To start, they are a stones throw from one another and are BITTER rivals. Alabama has always seen itself as the bigger brother and Auburn always seemingly feels like they have to prove themselves. The Rammer Jammer is kind of a fight song for Alabama and they sing it after their wins or during the game. The words you hear in this clip are "We just beat the hell out of you! Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer. Let's go Alabama! (or Give'm hell Alabama. I've heard varying things but basically same point.)"
The Reverse Rammer Jammer is played whenever Auburn beats their "big brother" and switches a few words, and this one in particular is when they knocked off Alabama as they were the #1 ranked team in the nation with the last game of the season and stormed the field. So in this clip, you'll hear the same start and they go "We just beat the hell out of you! Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer. Go to hell Alabama!"
