My company does hybrid. Recent hourly pay, 5% commission on repairs, 2% commission on maintenance, 10% on equipment sales. I couldn’t work at a residential shop that doesn’t give some kind of commission or spiffs. It’s a lot of work with customer relationships and getting customer to trust you and move forward. People skills take a lot of work as well. As long as you’re being honest, there is absolutely nothing wrong with commisions. That said, I couldn’t work at a complete commission based place where wouldn’t make enough to survive without selling because people definitely don’t always need stuff.
