  • Hey guys!
    I hope you enjoyed my video on how I cut down my scooter decks. I’ve cut down a lot of scooter decks and I thought it would be a good idea to make a video about it so people could see how I cut down my decks.
    In this video I have skipped over a lot of the little details, like filing and sanding down any sharp edges. I did this to help keep the video shorter. If I skipped over any details that you may have had questions about, make sure to comment and I’ll try my best to answer any of your questions.

    What size Drill did you use for the spacer holes ?

    • @ChaseRost
      @ChaseRost  7 месяцев назад

      I use a 3/8 drill bit. Then I file/sand the inside of the holes to make sure they are a perfect fit for the spacers. If this was a normal deck, where the spacers did not actually go into the deck, then you wouldn’t have to use such a large drillbit.

    hello can i ask what size off the drill u use for the final hole

    • @ChaseRost
      @ChaseRost  3 года назад +1

      For the axel size, since ethic uses a unique spacer system, i finished with the size (3/8)
      but normal scooter axels size is (5/16) so if your drilling the axel in basically any other deck, you'll use size 5/16
      and for the break hole I use the size 3/8

    • @ChaseRost
      @ChaseRost  5 лет назад

      For the Ethic deck i used the size 3/8. (i also used a round file to make the spacers fit easily in.) but for a normal scooter deck without spacers that go into the deck, the size would be 5/16.

      cam simpson when cut down to 19.5 inches long, the foot space is reduced to 13.5 inches. Lil tight but was good for me

    What size drill bit for the brake ??

    • @ChaseRost
      @ChaseRost  5 лет назад

      I believe it is slightly larger than the axel size which would be a 5/16. So if i am remembering correctly, it should be a 3/8 drill bit for the ethic brakes.

    How did you mesure where the axle hole has to be?

    • @ChaseRost
      @ChaseRost  2 года назад +1

      There are two main ways, the basic and less accurate way is to just hold up the old drop outs and then start drilling based on how it lines up.
      but The best way is to use a caliper and measure the existing axel holes.
      The steps i take are:
      Step one: measure your axel hole size. This should be 8mm or 5/16 inch. you then want to divide this in half. so it would = 4mm
      Step two: Measure from end of deck to front edge of axel hole
      Step three: add first measurement (4mm) plus second. this with get you the center point of how far the axel should be drilled into the deck.
      Next we need to find the vertical measurement:
      Step one: we already know this step so 4mm
      Step two: Measure from top of deck to top edge of axel hole
      Step three: add first measurement (4mm) plus second. this with get you the center point of how far vertically the axel should be drilled into the deck.
      Now for an example. on Rapture Pro scooter decks:
      The first measurement (this is how far we are going to drill the hole)= .4 inches
      the second vertical measurement = .512 inches
      Hope this helps, definitely lmk if any of that is confusing

    Does iT snap faster when its cut

    • @ChaseRost
      @ChaseRost  3 года назад +1

      As long as the cuts are made smooth and not jagged it should last just as long as the original deck. (If not maybe even a pinch longer since your taking down the length, which actually takes leverage off the headtube)

  • @idoquack383
    @idoquack383 5 лет назад

    how do you really make sure where to drill the axel hole? and if you dont put it in the right place wont you not be able to put your axel through the spacer?

    • @ChaseRost
      @ChaseRost  4 года назад +1

      You gotta make sure that the back end is squared off perfectly at 90degrees. if you don't have a drill press to drill your axel holes perfectly straight, then you will need to measure the back end with a caliper (or ruler). reference your decks original axel holes before to find the center point and then remark it on your new fresh cut deck.

    What are the drill bit sizes ?

    • @ChaseRost
      @ChaseRost  4 года назад +1

      for a normal scooter deck with a standard axel it would be 5/16ths or 8mm. but for the ethic pando decks, they use special spacers so it needs a 3/8s and a small circle file to fine tune them in.

      Chase Rost you sped up the process of making the measurements for cutting down the deck and now idk what to measure to cut it down

    • @ChaseRost
      @ChaseRost  3 года назад

      TRITON_ThndrNxck When measuring the length of the deck, you want to start at the nose blunt plate. Measure down to the length that you want to ride. For me personally I ride 19.5 inches long. Once you put the Mark at the distance you need. Then you use your right angle ruler to make a straight line on the back of the deck. This is how you will cut your straight line to make sure the back end of your deck is perfectly square

    • @thndrnick6692
      @thndrnick6692 3 года назад +1

      Chase Rost ok so let’s say I take off like 3 inches on the back of the Deck do I have to cut off 3 inches of the brake part too?

    • @ChaseRost
      @ChaseRost  3 года назад

      TRITON_ThndrNxck yes, you called it. It’s best to pre measure and make your marks or better yet take measurements beforehand of your deck so you can move your brake cut out accordingly to your new back deck cut. You can use a piece of paper to lay over your uncut deck and then sketch/scribble Over the paper to reveal the lines of the deck. You can then use this as a blueprint for once your deck is cut
