Karaoke actually means empty orchestra so backing track but having the words too is great for work flow and not needing to laboriously learn all the words if your performing many songs.
Karaoke actually doesn't have anything to do with the singer or the words displayed.
I've used backing tracks for 40 years or so and sang occasionally with live backings.
Voice Xfactor BGT masked singer all use backing tracks.
