Maybe i missed something. Could you tell me what happens if I don't want to or can not spend any more memory, but still have some left? Can't i pass my turn?
Excellent Question! In a situation where you you can't or don't want to spend any more memory and want to move to the next player's turn, you'll announce that you're passing, which you can do during the main phase while you're not resolving any other effects. This will set the memory to 3 on your opponent's side, and then end of turn procedures will resolve as normal.
im confused on the evolving. use agumon for example. the bottom circle, digivolution cost, was red with lvl 2 and 0 (next to a gumon's name it shows he's lvl 3). so agumon can evolve into a red lvl 2 with 0 cost? your example shows agumon evolving into greymon. greymon shows lvl 4 next to his name with a red bottom circle (digivolution cost) that has lvl 3 and 2. so does greymon evolve into a lvl 3 with 2 cost? that's where I'm lost. if someone could help I'd appreciate it greatly EDIT: the digivolution cost on the card is what it costs to digivolve into it, not into another
@@GoldenNovaYugioh Hi! New player commenting on an older video, I know, sorry about that... but, can you only pass on a turn you don't declare an attack/don't use any effects? Wouldn't passing after using effects and attacking just basically be the same as my ending my turn normally? Thanks!
@@dessabull1398Your turn only ends when you cannot use more memory or decide to voluntarily pass. You can resolve as many effects as you can or want in your Main Phase. You can start by attacking with a Digimon, then evolve, then play a card, or vice versa or any order you prefer. You don’t have a Battle Phase like in Yugi, attacking is part of the Main Phase, does that make sense? There are some exceptions granted by card effects to this but that is a very specific case not worth mentioning here.
So, it's a small thing and maybe it was mentioned and I missed it, but Digimon only has a "Main Phase". All playing, digivolving, and battling happens in the main phase, and in any order you want. If you wanna attack in case you're worried about losing your digimon, you can attack first, then build up more defensively afterwards
Option cards actually do not have a play cost, they just have a cost (technically options are not "played" they are "used"). It's very stupid but the distinction is important for cards like solarmon which prevent your opponent from reducing play costs specifically and not costs, so you can still reduce the cost of a card like crimson blaze for example. It's kind of like the distinction between destroy and send to grave I guess
7:18 "Like the original digidestined, to this... guuuyyy" Yeah, about that... For real, though. That's a very comprehensive and complete guide. You even went over the difference between playing and digivolving. Great job!
Something I also really like about DCG when compared to Yugioh is its pricing and the alternate art system. Unlike Yugioh, which largely forgoes alternate arts, only releasing them on very rare ocassions, DCG has alt arts every single set (plus a lot more on secondary sets, promos or other products), which means big money cards are 99% of the time AAs and Secret Rares and budget players can usually afford strong meta decks because the normal arts end up very cheap. I was flabbergasted when I got into the game and was able to build FOUR high-level decks for the same money I'd had spend in a single meta YGO deck. Also, many arts (and specially alt arts) are beyond gorgeous. It made me realize just how outdated and deprecated Yugioh card layouts/frames are.
Dude you need to make more little videos on this. This seems super fun and even though I personally don't consider Yu-Gi-Oh very complicated if you actually take the time to learn it in steps like I did, this seemed relatively straight forward, especially by YGO standards. I haven't played yugioh since 2003 and i believe I'm too far removed, but this looks like fun. low-key, this reminds me of the Duel masters card game. awesome video
This is one of the main reasons I was drawn into the DCG - it reminded me of DM and I loved watching DM when I was younger. For me, it's basically DM but with the flavor of Digimon 😂😂😂
This game definitely takes inspiration from the old Duel Masters card game that I loved as a kid. Wait... it's basically combining Digimon, my favourite childhood anime with Duel Masters, my OTHER favourite childhood anime.
A note because the rules have been changed a bit. At the start of a duel you now draw 5 cards, and if you dislike the starting hand you can mulligan once. If you don't mulligan, you then add the 5 security cards. If you do Mulligan, reshuffle your deck with your opponent cutting it, and you draw 5 cards first, then add your security cards and must keep the hand you get. Also a rule about options. In order for an option card to be played you must have a digimon or tamer of the same color on the board. If an option has two colors, you must have both colors on the board in some way.
i have been playing yugioh since 2010 and since then i have played many card games but digimon is the only one that actually makes me excited to play and have it as a second card game (with the exception of hearthstone on release, that was wild back then)
Really want to play a Xros Heart deck. If there’s anything I love about TCGs, it’s playing decks that completely disregards the core design of the game.
Xros Heart is pretty cool. I play it. More Xros Heart cards come out late Feburary, so if you wanna make a deck, you can get all the Xross Heart cards for super cheap right now, then wait for newer cards to help tech out your deck.

Honestly, the more I learn about other card games, and the more I learn about the YGO meta through Master Duel and things like Progression Polls, the more I begin to realize how fundamentally flawed YGO as a game actually is. Don't get me wrong, there are parts of YGO I will defend to my dying day- it has some of the best card art, and possibly the _absolute_ best card inspirations and theming, of any card game I know- and I freely admit that some of my absolute favorite moments in my entire gaming career have happened in Master Duel. But from a game design standpoint, YGO is an absolute nightmare. The lack of any cap on Special Summons and effect activations per turn; the almost-complete absence of any sort of action-limiting resource system like Memory, MTG's Mana, or Pokemon's Energy (unless you count Xyz Material, which only applies to a small percentage of cards and even then usually lets them use the ability right away); the sheer number of cards that exist purely to cancel what your opponent is doing, preventing them from playing at all... It all adds up to a perfect storm of problems that explains why the modern metagame is the complete trainwreck that it is. Anyway, sorry for rambling! Awesome video as usual; I'll definitely have to look more into this game in the future!
Flawed is a weird word to use imo. Its different, it is a genuinely VERY unique card game. The lack of limitations is a fun thing about YGO, but can in fact cause balance issues( and does) often. But literally every cardgame has its own faults that cause this, so it doesn't make it special by any means. Learning new card games can easily make you feel this way though, partially because of recency bias, but also becaue you haven't invested as much time to get frustrated in them yet.
As a magic player, this is just me going "Oh shit, unsuspend is just untap! Oh shit, the security pile is the Pokemon Prize Cards! Oh hey, they have a floating boardstate like magic! Oh hey-"

I believe there’s a similar unofficial format called the “Chosen One” format that lets you use a Tamer and a Digimon card in a similar way to a Deck Master format. I think Bandai even acknowledged it, it’s just not an official format.
Just so people know. New rules are in effect that have switched when you do security and draw your starting hand, as there is now a mulligan in the game. 11:14

After watching this video, I gotta say, imo Digimon TCG is like the midway point between Yu-Gi-Oh and Vanguard in terms of complexity. I've played a variety of card games (with Yu-Gi-Oh being the only physical one, and that was a long while ago) and among those card games, the current ones that I'm very familiar with is Yu-Gi-Oh and Vanguard (especially after Dear Days got released). Like, I could understand Vanguard terms/plays and mechanics in 1 day while it took me about a week to relearn things since I stopped at GX era before. Meanwhile, with the help from your video, I could probably learn Digimon TCG in a few days. Still need to see first how deck building/playstyle is done for Digimon, as for vanguard each deck is pretty easy to learn in about a day or so as you played it while Yu-Gi-Oh have a lot of wide variety of decks and playstyle that you even need some time to recondition yourself each time you change decks. Imagine playing HERO one duel and then changing to Sky Striker in the next one, totally different strats to consider.
While not thinking about playing the Digimon TCG rn (if I did want to start it, I'd prob go for a WarGreymon/Omnimon or Shoutmon/OmniShoutmon deck), I still need this vid.
Was that the terminal music from Digimon World 2 I heard in the background? If not, it sounded very similar. Great tutorial and we'll done explanations. I definitely want to try this now that I understand it more.
Digimon is probably the best designed card game currently. I find the memory system a very unique resource to play around. It seems very fair but powercreep is fast.
17:00 I would compare this to evolution in Pokémon TCG. The lore with XYZ monsters is they’re being summoned using monsters as material. But in Pokémon and Digimon they are literally the monsters becoming the new form. And in Pokémon it’s the same. All damage, all status effects, and anything else carries over to the new stage.
Yo! So I was just checking out TSX speed duel tournament and the speed counter mechanic is actually super interesting and it made me think of this memory thing. So, like, what if Yugioh had something like that? Let's call it shadows and it can look opposite to memory. So you pull shadows towards yourself by activating monster (cost 1?) and spell (cost 2?) effects. maybe even give it a tiny "neutral" middle ground so turn one player can cook a tiny bit more than T set, pass. And I think set and flipping any card is enough to bypass "drawing shadows" cost; making traps and some flip monsters more interesting, but also reigning in the OP quick-play spell. In my opinion, there should have been quick-play traps instead; but this is not the discussion today!
Yo Digimon the card game is so much chiller than Yu-Gi-Oh it is just absolutely on the phone sometimes to just play Yu-Gi-Oh or sometimes magic the gathering but for this card game it's fairly simple to understand the mechanics and each effect doesn't Shane so people can't just say I'm going to counter that all affects our issues night it's just all tied up in a nice little bow tie
I know this video is 1 year old at this point but 1 small thing I noticed, you don't set up the security and then draw your hand, you draw your hand, decide if you want to muligan or not (you only get 1, if it's a worse hand too bad), and only then, after both players have finished drawing for hand, do they setup the top 5 cards as security
What im getting is that everyone plays zoodiac; Memory works like a balanced mystic mine/ chicken game; and you have 5 kuribos to prevent lethal that can actually be a blue-eyes lol.
Unfortunately, this and the One Piece TCG card game don't seem to have a way to play online, so I have no real way of practicing and trying things out.
It looks super interesting! I've been a digimon fan ever since and I'll surely start collecting cards I like before playing. I wish there was a game like master duel (is there?) but cards will be collected anyways
The Digimon TCG is great cause it allows me to go from a baby dinosaur to a walking dead machine armed with gatling guns in order to punch my opponent in the face and win :)
I've had my eye on digimon tcg for a while but because I don't go to locals I can't play. Hoping for the day there is an alternative way to play online.
7:03 why do i feel like ive played a digimon game that did just that? 10:53 wait wait wait... so the Security is kind of like the defense mechanic from Duel Masters essentially, except the cards taken out of it go to the grave pile? I really liked that mechanic. neat. 12:19 OOHOO, so in theory this game generates a tug of war over it's resource. sure, dip below 0... if you dare. 14:45 was waiting for that information. this game seems to play like a magic/duel masters hybrid, but with not nearly as many cards dedicated to energy generation in the same way and it's own unique details. im still trying to understand the push-pull potential of the energy mechanic, but i like this. 19:30 OOH, so while your opponent loses life, you may have had one of your on field digimon taken out by an enemies shield in revenge for poking life with a card to low... 20:38... I have to ask this. are there any milling builds?
To answer the last one, there's a very strong Impmon/Beelzemon Self-Mill deck, and Purple has a lot of Looting effects besides, but to my knoweldge. Some of the Purple/Red Guilmon cards also mill both players, but to my knowledge, there's no deck where milling out your opponent is the primary win condition, but I'd encourage looking into it just in case!
@@GoldenNovaYugioh thanks for letting me know this either way. just figured id ask because Mill is my favorite win-con and it would be interesting to see if such a deck would be viable in such a game.
Ok so a question, outside the color or levels do you need specefic mons for specefic evolutions like greymon and war greymon?Simialr to how junk warrior needs junk synchron
Nope! You could digivolve a Gomamon into a Garurumon if you want, so long as the color and level requirements match! Requirements that are in line with specifics from other properties are usually in addition to that (for example, there are some Guilmons that cost 1 to digivolve on top of a Lv 2 Red Digi-egg, has an alternate 0 Cost digivolve on top of any Gigimon)
For those who want to play Digimon TCG play Purry in duel master it's has some of the same mechanics of Digimon lol. Konami really pull a fast one here lol
so i have to ask is the any online digimon card games like master duel edo or omega ? i have always been a massive digimon fan from digimon world 1 on the play station to basically buying a ps4 for next order so i would love to get in to the card game
question just because i am not sure if i got this say its my first turn and i hatch a digiegg can i digivol it without paying memory? P.D: how does the game decide who goes first?
It’s a bit late but the Memory Cost on the Cards left dictates whether or not it costs memory to digivolve or do a flat play, Digivolving is cheaper to do than simply playing the monster immediately from your hand, usually Digiegg level is Level 2 then it Digivolves into any Level 3 Digimon and typically as Level 3 is a Rookie level it costs nothing to Digivolve from the Egg but also is cheap to play without evolving (Say it costs 2 memory if you don’t choose to Digivolve but if you do, it’s free), the game decides who goes first Via Coinflip but I could see people using Dice Rolls if they want to. Overall IMO The DCG is a very simple and straightforward yet fun game, also note the Cards Color typically tells you how the deck plays, Red is very offensive, Blue focuses on Card Effects, Yellow is a very defensive type that can refresh the Security area, Purple/Violet focuses on the Trash Pile and manipulating that, Black is a Very Defensive type and then there’s Typeless which don’t have a specialization but also due to that if you have a typeless card it more than likely will be in a mixed deck.
Bandai please make Digimon TCG into Console or Mobile game. It's DIGITAL Monster card game, why is it not have DIGITAL form? There's a tutorial app for it on mobile, just base on that and make into a full game.

happy to see you dive more into digimon, immediate watch once it popped up.
Thank you for this video so much
If YGO ain't this expensive I would play digimon TCG (I am just huge sucker for digimon)
Amazing video as always golden nova! I’m a fan of yugioh and digimon tcg so this was exciting to see on your channel brother!
Digimon lore analysis using only cards could be really cool
Always love these videos 🙏
Yo Digimon the card game is so much chiller than Yu-Gi-Oh it is just absolutely on the phone sometimes to just play Yu-Gi-Oh or sometimes magic the gathering but for this card game it's fairly simple to understand the mechanics and each effect doesn't Shane so people can't just say I'm going to counter that all affects our issues night it's just all tied up in a nice little bow tie
I'm so happy you did this, thank you you have no idea
after watching this, I might actually check out the TCG (if there are ways to play online) to see if I enjoy it
Awesome vid! It was really informative and simple to follow.
Honestly, hearing this from a Digituber makes me feel VERY relieved. Thank you so much for the compliment!
Thanks for teaching us about digimon Nova
I hope one day we get a grace novamon Red/Blue starter deck cause hes one of my fav digimon and I'm really interested in this game.
This game seems really cool. Gonna check if there is a simulator for it…oh…oh no….
Truly the only complaint I have about the franchise at the moment: If they had a decent online simulator, I'd be playing this game a WHOLE lot.
@@GoldenNovaYugioh Same, I have 2 starter decks at home, but I haven't actually gotten to play it at all aside from the tutorial app
Note: the cards for hand go before the security on set up
Unfortunately, this and the One Piece TCG card game don't seem to have a way to play online, so I have no real way of practicing and trying things out.
Fantastic video Nova! Love seeing You making videos on other stuff You like.
Also Diaboromon evolution line My beloved
Technically, Diaboromon is my favorite, I just didn't get to it in the example xD I'm glad you liked!
Nice~ then we share a favorite then!
Although I think I like Diaboromon and Infernomon just as much
Reminds me of duel masters
now i just need a place to play this online. anyone know of a digital client for this game?
AW MAN DIGICROSS IS LITERALLY LYRILISC!!!!!
LETS GOOOO MORE PLAYERS IN DCG
6:41 dorumon is my favorite digimon but i keep forgeting his ultimate levels have greymon in their names
It looks super interesting! I've been a digimon fan ever since and I'll surely start collecting cards I like before playing. I wish there was a game like master duel (is there?) but cards will be collected anyways
your best bet is Table top simulator mods. There is a huge modding scene for Digimon TCG for that game.
@@JDReC100 thanks!
3:20 if only Harpy Ladies 2, 3 and 4 were like this too
This game is definitely like vanguard like vanguard and games like Digimon the card game are in the aisle completely different type of category
So Digimon TCG has a lot of similarities with Duel Masters
The Digimon TCG is great cause it allows me to go from a baby dinosaur to a walking dead machine armed with gatling guns in order to punch my opponent in the face and win :)
Truly, it is peak fiction!
Marcus Damon is the best Digimon protagonist.
Can you go over devks and archetypes like you do for Yu-Gi-Oh
Day 1 of asking GoldenNova to make a Galaxy-Eyes explained video
6:58 tell that to 6 year old me with my botamon in the original digimon world for ps1
Never tried tackling Card Fight Vanguard?
Pretty cool style for the game, no LP is pretty sexy
I have a strong desire to play this card game now. Is there any kind of online system for it like Master Duel?
What is a good way to play the digimon tcg online?
Tabletop simulator
So you can have up to 4 retrains of each name?
Ok so a question, outside the color or levels do you need specefic mons for specefic evolutions like greymon and war greymon?Simialr to how junk warrior needs junk synchron
Nope! You could digivolve a Gomamon into a Garurumon if you want, so long as the color and level requirements match! Requirements that are in line with specifics from other properties are usually in addition to that (for example, there are some Guilmons that cost 1 to digivolve on top of a Lv 2 Red Digi-egg, has an alternate 0 Cost digivolve on top of any Gigimon)
Thx
For those who want to play Digimon TCG play Purry in duel master it's has some of the same mechanics of Digimon lol.
Konami really pull a fast one here lol
Great video
I hate the inherited effects. I don’t want to have to read 5 different cards underneath the digimon on top of its own effects to understand it.
Marcus Deimos is Gary Stur
Seems like a combo between pokemon and yugioh
I would try it if there was a good online simulator
First and Digimon looks cool
Are there any online sims for the Digimon TCG? I don't really have people to play cards with IRL... :(
Closest thing I believer ATM is using Tabletop Simulator, but I'm not sure how good it's online functionality for PvP is.
So is digimon the new yugioh?
Love. The. Vid.
Digimon best game
Now big question, since Yu-Gi-Oh has a reading issue can they count from 2 to 7?
They better be able to!
@@GoldenNovaYugioh XD
so i have to ask is the any online digimon card games like master duel edo or omega ? i have always been a massive digimon fan from digimon world 1 on the play station to basically buying a ps4 for next order so i would love to get in to the card game
There's currently no dedicated simulators, but I believe Tabletop Simulator has a mode for it.
@@GoldenNovaYugioh might have to check that out then its a shame the is no real ability other then that to play digimon
That explain the delays
question just because i am not sure if i got this say its my first turn and i hatch a digiegg can i digivol it without paying memory?
@@casualgamingauraous2345 thanks man
@@rafaelalejandrogutierrezro9224 Np Bro, happy dueling!

DNA digivolving is xyz
Bandai please make Digimon TCG into Console or Mobile game. It's DIGITAL Monster card game, why is it not have DIGITAL form? There's a tutorial app for it on mobile, just base on that and make into a full game.
Truly a flavor fail to not have the Digital version.
